Siding w/ House and not killing the brotherhood

Post » Wed Jul 21, 2010 12:58 pm

I thought I remember someone discussing this topic but can't be sure.

Is this possible? I don't want this character to kill the BOS but I want to side w/ house.

Thanks.

Originally it was intended to be there, but somewhere during development, they decided it was not possible, but there is a mod that unlocks the hidden dialogue for the game if you play on PC.

Ok thanks, damn that House, he makes it hard for me to side w/ him cause he such an arrogant bastard.

As my character was introduced to the BOS via veronica, it seems so out of character to kill them off.

"Hey thanks for letting me in the bunker and giving me access to your tech, now you must die."

I've never done the house play through, Veronica is not going to be happy with me. :(

Doing that just never fits with any of the characters I play. While they will kill to defend themselves or do a surgical strike against an acknowledged enemy, waltzing into a group's stronghold and cold-bloodedly killing them all just doesn't work. Guess I'll never do the House questline. :sadvaultboy:

It's only possible on NCR and Independent.

Note: You have to keep McNamara as elder in NCR path.

House > BoS

Crybabies of Steel aren't worth having around, all they do is harass anyone with better tech than they.

BoS is better than house. BoS arnt half as arrogant as house. house calls them techo fetish people, but dosnt come up with a good reason for destroying them. at least Ceaser gives you a decent reason for destroying them

That is simply not true. House and Yes-Man want you to destroy the BoS in the Mojave because the Brotherhood being who they are, they could never tolerate New Vegas having tech they don't, and thus they would launch war on New Vegas, House and wants you to eliminate them because he'd rather sidestep that war altogether. Yes-Man grumps at you if you decide to spare the BoS.

Seriously, quit making biased lies about things. :slap:

The brotherhood arnt idiots, they wouldnt wage a war that they would clearly lose, what with the NCR and the securitrons. They would stay in their bunker, perhaps take control of the neighbouring towns or areas. They know when to back down, or make alliances, what with the NCR-BoS alliance you can make. The securitrons kept NCR and tribals away from new vegas, do you think the brotherhood with less than half the number of soldiers with the NCR, would be stupid enough to attack New Vegas.

You're mistaking your feelings with what would happen. The Brotherhood, despite it's training, is overly arrogant. They would believe their tech and training could win that war. Also, the Brotherhood in the Mojave isnt the Brotherhood in D.C., the Mojave Brotherhood wouldn't align with towns or cities, the BoS only cares for itself and they will raid you if you have high end tech. They'd make the same mistakes they made fighting the NCR.

No i mean it would take over cities, or at least build outposts in the area. And the brotherhood is actually over cautious. When the NCR beat it back after the battle of helios 1, it retreated into its bunker for a long time. Even though you can make the brotherhood eventually lift the lockdown, i bet they would still be cautious and remember their last battle in the mojave

You have good points, but you forget, the Brotherhood has been reduced to 20-30 soldiers, and even that is a generous estimate. The Brotherhood started a war they failed to realize. I don't know if you're a Tolkein fan, but imagine the Brotherhood as Helms Deep in The Two Towers, and the NCR as Sarumans Uruk Hai army. It doesnt matter how much skill your men have, in the end, if you're outnumbered,15:1, you're going to be overrun lest some white knight, AKA the courier, saves you.

All in all. You're overplaying the BoS, the Brotherhood is pretty much following in the Enclaves footsteps, IE Power, then defeat, then finally, extinction.

The West Coast yes! Not the East coast. Trying to be the tough guy will certainly get you killed in the wasteland. I say that the BOS in the west should all die or change their ways. Those are the only options I'm afraid.

While the Brotherhood may be somewhat friendly with the player if they enter the bunker with Veronica, they're not exactly the perfect little angels that some people make them out to be. If, for instance, the player convinces Veronica to leave the BoS and help the Followers of the Apocalypse, some Brotherhood members show up and murder all the doctors before trying to kill both the player and Veronica. After such an event (which seems to demonstrate to Veronica just what the BoS really is), I can justify wiping out the bunker.

Dont judge a entire faction on a few idiots. Thats like judging the legion on lanius, or judging NCR with colonel moore. I can guarantee the brotherhood elder didnt send those men into the followers camp to kill the doctors

You can judge the Legion by its violent aggression, just like you can judge the BoS by its dogmatism, xenophobia, and short-sightedness (which Veronica mentions, and is 100% correct about). While the BoS might not want to torture, enslave, or kill you just for funsies, they'd have no qualms with stealing any high end, pre-war technology you owned, before leaving you to the mercy of the wastes.

The non-renegade BoS in Fallout 3 (ie, Outcasts), were quite callous to the plight of people outside of their order; something they share with the New Vegas branch. If you're not a member of the BoS, can't/won't directly help them, and don't posses any high tech equipment, then you're - at best - worthless in their eyes. If you do possess high tech equipment, they'll be looking to rob and/or kill you for it. Not exactly "good guys" as a whole, even if a few of them aren't nearly as dogmatic as their rules command them to be.

And whether the "few idiots" that murdered the Follower of the Apocalypse doctors were sent by the elder or not is largely irrelevant; they were, in fact, adhering to the Brotherhood's rules in committing their crime. They suspected that Veronica had shared knowledge with the Followers, so therefore they (and you, and Veronica) must be killed. The current "decent" Elder in the NV faction is a human being, and he's eventually going to die off (unless of course he thought he could raze NV to the ground and steal Mr. House's tech). What happens when he passes on? Does that BoS faction get another "nice guy" in charge? Or do they get the run-of-the-mill dogmatist that cares nothing for stepping on anyone weaker than the Brotherhood in order to collect more technology; even if doing so means that the person(s) they stepped on end up eaten by death claws, radscorpions, etc...?

The BoS isn't exactly what I'd call "evil" - but they're not "good guys" either.

All the factions are exactly evil but not good guys either. Thats what makes the faction system so good.

About youre elder talk. That could happen to any faction. Kimball will one day die, maybe he will be replaced for a smooth talker who uses people of the mojave as stepping stones and sees them as nothing more than a obstacle against the republic. The BoS is no diffrent in that respect.
