RP Sign Up: The Depths of Fort Hawkstar

Post » Mon Aug 15, 2011 11:06 am

Okay. I'm creating a Dungeon crawl-type RP for this forum, and will be the GM for four or five players.

I don't want to give too much of what story is here, other than everyone's character has a quest that's drawn them to the Dungeons under Fort Hawkstar in the Kingdom of Daggerfall, in the year 4e179 (Late enough that the events of the past games are irrelevant, but not yet time for the Last Dhovakiin to begin his/her killing spree)

Kind of a "Elder Scrolls meets Diablo/Torchlight/Nethack/Rogue/Hack-Slash-Crawl" thing. Or, you could say it's in the style of The Elder Scrolls Legends: Battlespire. *teaser/spoiler alert!

As such, I'm establishing some rules and expectations that are somewhat contrary to the usual conventions of these forums:
1.) I control all non-player characters, including monsters.
2.) Ideal post length is less than two paragraphs: We need fast-paced quantity, not "quality" here.
3.) During combat encounters, I'm establishing an action economy: You can react to the previous posts, and take one "action", defined as what you can perform in ~5 seconds.
4.) Due to limited feedback and my control over the environment and ALL NPCs and monsters, broad posts meant to be "interpreted" instead of "read" are acceptable.
5.) I intend to post as often as possible to keep things moving. While there's no set "Turn Order", I don't want people waiting to post if they have enough they can work with to get a post of their own, even if it's just a few sentences. I'll post an OOC comment if I need to hold someone back. I'm expecting this RP to alternate between hours of inactivity with rapid sequences of posts, as opposed to slow and steady post rate. Hopefully, with the small number of players and little content actually required for the posts keeps this thread moving fast, fun, and furious.

This is not a story of how mild-mannered underwater basket weavers become unlikely heroes against a dark threat, nor established legends adding yet another accomplishment to their names: This is about low-leveled adventurers hacking, slashing, crawling, and looting their way to fame and fortune.

Character Sheet

Name, Race, six:
Class/role:
Skills:
Basic Character Description: (Can be paragraphs or specific-trait bullet-points such as height, eye color, hair style/color, skin tone, build, etc.) Not the most important aspect of your character.
Starting Equipment: Basic (Leather or Iron light, medium or heavy) Armor, (Iron) Weapons, and dungeoneering tools, and <100 drakes.
Reason for coming to Fort Hawkstar: (Retrieving a noble's runaway tiger, tracking down an escaped experiment from the Mage's Guild, Giant-killing for the fighter's guild, etc.)

I'll give more background once I get a few character submissions: I'm going to be a lazy GM, and only bother with setting up monster/loot tables, NPCs and store inventories, and dungeon layouts. I'm not going to bother coming up with an overarching story (But I might plan some cool options and dungeon set-pieces), nor distinguish between incidental trivia and background information from dark, plot-important secrets.

Sounds interesting.
How long might this last for?

Hopefully, it will be going even when the Immortal Blood Timeline is long forgotten :P

Hmm... well, November will be a bad month for me (), so I hope it finishes before then.
I'll post a CS tomorrow, I like to think ahead when it comes to CSs.

Oh no... it's going to be going on for a long time (At least until TES VI comes out! Hopefully)... but I intend to keep it open as far as player participation's concerned: There should be plenty of opportunities for a character to take a short retirement and enjoy the vast riches (s)he's pulled out of the depths. I don't intend to have this RP include any "Only YOU can save the day now!" plots.

Sounds very cool, I'll probably write a new CS and post it later.
