[RELz] Signy Signposts(!) TR Map 1

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:04 pm

I had an idea.
Make that 486 post meshes I mentioned earlier into 972 :P

:P I can wait, keep up the quality work, and I'll still download these 5 years from now if thats how long it takes.....unless TESV releases and actually takes my attention away from Morrowind, though after TESIV I'm not sure any new game will ever effect me as greatly as this game already has.

Okay, I'm tinkering with the meshes right now.
Someone make sure to remind me to update the TR map1 signs once I'm done with these.

Edit:
I'm turnin' this post into a frickin' colour progress bar. Rock.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| 25%
When it reaches 100%, it means that all the 972 meshes are done, and I'll do the .esp.
After that, testing.

I remember you mentioning how boring and loathsome setting up the meshes were. Hope you survive that.

Oh, um, er...
Yeah.

Actually I just got distracted by...
What sounds like a good excuse?

By my dissertation. Yeah, that's it.
My dissertation has been distracting me, I'm not just a lazy slacker.

And here I was, thinking that you lost your mind somewhere between mesh 678 and 735 and are spending your days in a padded room these days.

But seriously: if I understood your earlier posts correctly, all that is left is loading up all those meshes in NifSkope and pointing them to the correct texture, then making the esp and testing. You mentioned that you already have a tester and of course you'd be the one to make the esp, but if you need help with this mountain of meshes, I can lend you a hand. Assigning textures with NifSkope is something I can do easily. It's tedious, but if it would help you get the mod out sooner, I'd gladly help. :)

Actually, the change that is required for each sign is modification of each of the three emissive settings in order that the user of the mod can have a choice of meshes for readability during night-time. The textures, at least, are thankfully already set up. :)
Thanks for the offer, I'm certain that you're capable of doing it and it probably would only take a couple of hours - but I hesitate to push a task of such mind-numbing tediousness onto anyone. That's a cruel fate.

It is a tempting offer though... I'll give it some ponderance over the course of the day, thank you. :)

When you are finished with this, and connary releases his compendium, my morrowind will be as complete as is possible untill TR and OpenMW are finished! I'm so excited!! Its such a good time to be a morrowind fan. :D

Oh man, I didn't realise that anyone was waitin' so earnestly for my little mod.
I'll try to get at least a few done tonight.

Lol, I don't mean for you to rush, it may still be years before Connary is finished with his textures(it looks like he's got most of it finished, but works of art take time, and I can appreciate that), and OpenMW and TR won't be complete for years for sure, so I'm content with the beautiful art that you have bestowed upon us so far, just wanted to let you know that your hard work is appreciated, and anticipated.

Finish it when you have the time, be it two weeks or two years, and I will still be around to d/l it. :D :P

Eeeeehhm, I do not think it is wise to mention waiting for two years to the Earth Wyrm. He is liable to pull a Rip van Winkle on us.

Right. I've had enough of my lazy-slacker-ness.
I'm going to try to release it today. There's a lot to be done still, but screw it - I'm just going to kick reason to the curb and go ahead with it.

Cheer me on, and watch the progress bars climb. :hehe:

Judging from you progress bar. Wouldn't you want to release a beta first.

At the very least I'll make some progress, yes. Thanks. :D
But I won't give up!

Judging from you progress bar. Wouldn't you want to release a beta first.

Nah, the progress bars make it look bad in terms of completeness, but I've already done a number of QA passes over the textures, which were all completed months ago and which are the main point of failure for the release. I think also that if I included the progress bars for the stages which have already been completed, it'd look less like I'm hammering it together in a day - the arty part is already done and all that remains is a very mechanical process (which is why I've been neglecting it ;)).
I'm also considerin' the TR Map 1 signs to be the Beta, since I already spent a lot of time workin' on my methodology for those, and I'm fairly confident that I've got the process sorted out now. Thanks for the concern though.
If I do somehow mess up the release, then I'll eat my words. ;)

Well, damn. Autodesk's registration servers are down for the weekend.
I don't suppose that anyone has the means to export a few .max files to .nif for me, do they?

https://www.yousendit.com/download/MnFoanZucHZGOFNGa1E9PQ the files. Don't worry 'bout the missing textures, I can fix them post-export.
Ohhh... This is going to hold me up. Damn you, fate! T_T

I would gladly do such a task for you, if only I knew what to do exactly. I have done basic things with NifSkope, but I am sure there is someone out there who can indulge your request, who would require no instruction.

I have been following this project, and you can count me among those who are eagerly awaiting a release. Wouldn't you feel relief upon putting this project to bed? Then again, this is merely a game, and you can't be faulted (much) for postponing work. I, myself, happen to be a procrastinator and can identify with the frustration that accompanies the delay of personal goals. I think it boils down to our sense of inadequacy and our insistence on perfection, much more so than it has to do with the vice of indolence.

Above all, if I can do anything to help this see the light of day, I would gladly take up the burden. Only, I would need to acquaint myself with the requisite programs and techniques, in order to further our end.

By the way, this is how I write under the influence of alcohol et cetera.

Ah! I did it!
Y'know when you have one of those "I'll just give it one last try" moments, where you solve a problem in a couple of minutes that you'd been working on for hours?
Yeah, I had one of those. Now I have that file I needed exported. :D

Shame that the weekend is over now.
I guess that means I'll finish this next weekend...?
But I'm doing something next weekend... and the weekend after... I wonder when I really will look at this again?

By the way, this is how I write under the influence of alcohol et cetera.

When I write under the influence of alchohol, it's kind of like how you write, except I can only write about buttcheeks.
Thanks for the support. :hehe:

Well, the upside of havin' to find a long method of exporting the meshes is that I also had the idea of optimisin' them a bit so that I can change them more easily. Each trishape in the first half of the meshes had a material node of their own, and the emissive settings for each of these three material nodes needed updating in the same way - but I realised that the trishapes only really need one material node to share between them, and I rearranged the mesh accordingly in nifSkope.
In theory, then, doing the last 50% of these meshes should be a little under three times as quick as the previous 50% were - So maybe I can find time for it in my weekdays. :)

I certainly do want to release this ASAP.
