Silence of the wolves.

Post » Sun May 18, 2014 12:28 pm

Long time lurker and huge fan of the game (still checking boards daily for updates). If there is one minor update left bring back the howling wolves. I know there wont be spears or giant mud crabs or other cool things but the wolves did howl at one point and it was cool. Shouldn't that be a quick code fix (xbox). First time registering for a game that is ending. Going to be a long wait for the next TES game.

They stopped howling sometime around Dawnguard. You would hear them before they attacked outside of Riverwood and other set locations.

On pc, Dawnguard caused the wolves, including the familiars, no longer howl. As usual, it's easy to fix on pc, I did it for myself; unfortunately it's less so for consoles users. I hope you get something before Bethesda definitively moves on.

Wolves have stopped howling? I haven't recognized that but it's sad news. First the deer stopped http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7Znp3PpW9o - I heard that last time when the game was just a few months old and now the wolves. What next? Quiet bears?

Can you tell how you fixed it? It would save a lot of time for me if I'm not needed to find out the problem and solve it.

I've actually never heard wolves howl. I see them do a howling animation, but no sound comes out.

It's so annoying.

For me, after Dawnguard was installed (PS3), they don't make a sound when they howl. They still do the animation and they still bark and pant when they attack, but no warning howl.

^^This.

I no longer hear them howl either. I miss that, for one, they are creatures of the wild and that is what they do. 2nd, their howling always gave warning.

For those on PC was it just a matter of changing b back to a in the code? Could it just been a typo when creating Dawnguard or the patch before it? The familiar also stopped doing it so thats an easy one to see for those on consoles with Dawnguard installed to see. Not 100% sure if other animals changed as well?

I just found out there were unofficial patches also for every DLC. Dawnguards unofficial patch changes the idle animations of wolves back to vanilla which fixes the problem.

Wolves are still howling long and mournfully on PC...
It is just one of the things fixed by the Unofficial patch. /shrug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

So how can anyone on PC say they do not howl?
Do you not use the fantastic Unofficial patches, which are a blessing?

LoL, heheh...
1600 hours playing, and I have no idea what this means.
Better to just use the patches?

You must extract one file from the Skyrim - Animations.bsa: wolf_idle_spice.hkx. You can do that automatically by using http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1395. It will extract it, once you've located it, and place it at it's right place in the meshes folder, with all the sub-folders and so on. /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I had some doubts, so I also extracted two other files: aggrowarning1.hkx and aggrowarning2.hkx. After extracting the first one, I didn't notice them using their aggrowarnings but maybe I'm wrong. I kept them anyway.

I had noticed about the deer; I've extracted some files but I still have to see if it's working or not.

Because there are some people (like I was before this thread) unaware about the separate releases for unofficial patches for DLCs. I have had unofficial patch as long as it has been available and have had it subscribed to get always the latest version. It never came in my mind before this they are releasing separate patches for DLCs.

Thanks, but I got the Dawnguard unofficial patch to fix it and some other issues. And I have already everything extracted - I'm used to mod these games since Morrowind. But can't say I'm too familiar with animations - I usually work with textures and scripting.

The unofficial patches will break other things in your game; I suppose you know the risk. It's up to you. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
