Silent forward roll

"Sprinting while sneaking performs silent forward roll"

Does anyone know what purpose that serves?

I have not played the ES series, is this something that was in previously, i cant find any explaination as to what a silent forward roll would accomplish.

Maybe its for doing a rolly polly over a trip wire without setting it off, where jumping would make noise?

It will allow you to quickly move from one dark corner to another more easily.

It will also offer probably a nice way to avoid attacks if you are good at hitting sneak and then quickly sprint. Might be useful for a marksman. Dodge roll to the side, shoot.

Why? to close faster to enemy and finish him from behind (especially if he is going to look back soon)

Or close the gap between you and unsuspecting prey. Use your imagination.

You creep up slowly behind the bandit, having put out the torches on the walls to make it dark.
His stride is a bit quicker than you'd like so you roll forward quickly, unsheathe your dagger, and
cut his throat before he's none the wiser.

I dig.

The hallway infront of you takes a split to the right, making two ways - one forward and one to the right.
You can see the shine of fire and the sound of two bandits talking from the passage to the right... You feel like it will be un-wise to engage them in combat.
You approach to the gap that seperates between you to the hallway forward and make a silent roll, cutting the gap forward and bypass through the passage to the right who now stands behind you as you continue forward on your quest.

As said allows for quick moving from shadow to shadow, or cover to cover. It also is just another cool feature. Warriors get the awesome Shield Bash, Theif like characters get awesome stealth ability's and mages get awesome spells, and combinations.

Either way every class looks epic, and i will make at least one of each arch type, with maybe bits of each other.

The silent forward roll is in Oblivion too. It's part of the Expert-level Acrobatics perk package, and is activated by hitting jump while holding block and moving forward. Well, it's not specifically silent but I think it works silently if you're sneaking when you do it. It sound much better in Skyrim.

Nice troll spam.

Irony..... :whistling:

Anywho, I guess it could be useful for agile combat users. Like a dual wielder rolling during combat to dodge attacks.... Though we will see what uses it will have. We may be suprised....

I bet it'll be fairly useless... but a very cool feature nonetheless

In oblivion it was an acrobatics perk i think... once u got your acro skills to 50. The oblivion roll was kinda cool but not used all too much

In skyrim i bet the roll is much more satisfying to pull off and an all-around better move

Still, i bet that aesthetic appeal is the core of the "roll function" > gameplay mechanic

Silently and quickly moving from one piece of cover to another.

Just like Splinter Cell Conviction (holy damn, that's the best cover system of all time).

Dues Ex had a pretty good cover system too.

I could really care less if it affects gameplay or not, if it looks cool its mine. Not to mention the Assassination Animations are the coolest new Stealth feature. Just look at my picture and say thats not cool...

P.S that looks like something from Assassins Creed right there... not The Elder Scrolls... Thats a good thing.

Do a barrel-roll!

It works for the Spetsnaz, it works for Dovahkiin.

Great image, bro!

I think it serves as a more quick movement that the normal sneaking. Especially when you realize someone's coming, and you're out in the middle of the room. Allows you to roll into the darkest corner and such.

I can just imagine myself spotting an unsuspecting bandit over yonder, and deciding to roll all the way to him and slit his throat, but ending up getting carried away and keep on rolling because its so fun.
