Silent roll most pointless perk?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 5:02 pm

I have to get this skill as it leads to shadow warrior.

But the silent roll seems like the most useless perk and it needs a skill level of 50 + 4 skill points to get.

It doesn't dodge attacks, or really speed anything up. It seems like a gimmick to me. Like they just through it in there for sneak tree.

Silent roll will place you right behind the enemy without making a sound for that final and fatal kill move just before you dip back into the shadows again, vanishing as if you were never there, ready to find your next victim. You are darkness. You are death!

Yeah it's lamesauce and badly implemented. Anyone wearing a quiver on their back would also be spending a few minuted picking up arrows after every roll..

No, anyone wearing a quiver on their back would shoot that dude in the face instead of trying to sneak up on him. Duh!

I had the roll perk my first trial run through and honestly its dumb and pointless.

My thought is the DEVs had no idea what to put in there so they threw that in. They could have added something different instead of that garbage. How about, light no longer is an issue for you in stealth. OR something that would be helpful.

What he said.

It changed the way i play my stealth charachter. Was getting bored of it, but so much more fun with roll.
I use alot for crossing areas fast where im likely to be seen. And to roll back to safety if i mess up.

I do wish it was a bit nearer the bottom of the tree though. Id done most of the thieves guild before i got it

How funny, it is one of my favorite perks for a sneak character. It lets you move across lit areas quickly and completely silently. Once your sneak gets high enough you can move across an enemy's field of vision using it, because you enter and exit their field of vision so quickly. You can never do this type of maneuver just walking in sneak mode.

If you are doing an archery based sneak attack it is rarely necessary, but if you are doing the dagger-based sneak attack, or trying to move closely to enemies without alerting them (like a pickpocket attack) it is very useful.

Its basically a way to "run" while sneaking.

I use it as such, if you hold down the button you'll keep on rolling, looks funny, but since my "Thief" is always sneaking it came in very handy once I got it.

Consider it as sneak sprint and you will find it quite useful. You can hold down the sprint key and continually roll over and over until your stamina bar is drained, at around standard running speed.

It works wonderfully together with the Critical Charge perk from the One Handed tree, and it makes you get around faster if you sneak a lot.

If you use it correctly, it's useful as hell. Quickly travel through lighted areas, avoid a persons sight, close in quickly on an enemy, avoid traps, etc.

It's a matter of how you use it.

It's one of the best perks for me.
Sneaking around a lot can get tedious cause it's so slow, but if you hold down roll button with a weapon equipped you go so freaking fast.

Stealth roll = Sneak sprint.

Far from useless.

My sneak skill is currently at 82. I stand in front of people and rob them in well lit rooms.

The silent roll isn't necessary to get behind anyone. If you have fun with it, then that's cool and I'm glad u like it. But it really seems tacked on, especially how powerful sneak gets in later levels and for anyone on path toward getting shadow warrior perk.

It's an excellent perk especially during that 50-80 skill range where it is difficult to sneak up on someone in a lit area. It's also great to sneak up on a group and get out quickly.

The most pointless perk is master lockpicking. Instead of master lockpicking you can get unbreakable picks, making any lockpicking attempt a 100% success rate. Why do you need a perk that speeds up an already-quick 100% chance of success?

This is awesome. I'd completely forgotten to try this out.

That said, I have to say I've been sitting here laughing like a fool imagining my character rolling around to get everywhere. It's like a skit out of some comedy show.

Rolling is one of the most pointless and fantasy-based movements ever used in videogames. Try rolling on the floor right now, and then try sneaking across the same space. Unless you're wearing clogs you'll make less noise, move faster and have more control over your body while sneaking than while rolling.

Rolling is for the most part useless in combat, and has a very limited, if at all, use in sneaking. The only point in which rolling becomes useful in combat is if your opponent has thrown you, and you roll as part of your breakfall.

I beg to differ. In some fantasy based games it is used to avoid attacks, I.e. dark souls

Master lockpicking costs one less perk point to reach.

I don't think it's any more useless than the rest of the worthless perks in the game. They needed a bunch of them for each skill so a lot of lame or worthless perks were invented to fill out otherwise sparse skill trees.

I think these perks are a gimmick to start with and makes leveling your character feel cheesy. Before the change you automatically got your perks when you reached a certain level in the associated skill, now you get to chose one even if you qualify for several. A much better system? Not so much.
