No silly menus for Smithing

I had forgotten about this but:

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/01/10/video-behind-the-scenes-of-skyrim.aspx

At 1:51 you see some notes on the crafting process, on the right side also it says "player playing, cool anims" which means there are almost certainly some sort of animations and interactions regarding the various crafting skills.

I was hoping for more than just an animation, but smithing is better than no smithing

I must've missed the alchemy workbench. Can you provide a link to the info or something?

It was in one of the todd interviews they showed a workbench with barrels and thingies and he said it was the alchemy workbench... damned if I know where he said it tho.

I agree, but how do you choose what type of armor you make?

The Armourer's Forge area could have a huge selection of hammers lined up, hanging off the wall, just like any modern-day mechanic shop, and each hammer is to be used to produce its own unique kind of armour. So what hammer you use decides what armour you make. And what materials you use decides its quality and/or special properties if any. And if you use magic, maybe that Rune system they said is in the game already for mages who want to draw on the ground, could also be used on these weapons, producing caustic sigils used to destroy one's foes when they strike your armour, or your Rune-encrusted blade strikes THEM.

Ahh, the fun... the fun...

To be honest, I really don't see the attraction in any of this. (But, then, the Cooking Mama games have never looked interesting, either. That being the only other "go through the motions of crafting" game that comes to mind....)

(And wouldn't "swinging the hammer" yourself run into the same problem that, say, lockpicking did in Oblivion? If you're good enough with the controls you can do stuff beyond what your actual skill ranking is, and if you svck with the controls, it doesn't matter if your skill is 80, you'll still screw up? A menu & recipe system, along with a "time passes" cutscene of you hammering away, with your skill determining how well you do/what quality materials you can use, seems much more useful....)
