Silly Question I Know But....

Does blocking against magic attacks do anything. Been leveling my sword/shield toon. He is smith to top of the line armor WITHOUT enchants.
I can beat anyone 1v1 with ease, but mages eat through me. I usually raise shield for their flamethrowers and such as it is just a gut reaction. But am I just letting myself be cooked? I know about wards but this guy is pure fighter, same starting mana and no magik perks

I do the same thing and it seems slow the rate that my health drains. I'm interested in knowing if it actually does

taking the block perk to give 50 percent magic resistance sure works.

Is at an "additional" 50%. Or does it just say 50. The wording could answer my question, thanks
