Silver Shroud - save Kent

Post » Fri Jan 15, 2016 9:11 pm

Seen a lot of people online having trouble with this one. Seems for some people Kent dies almost as soon as they enter the hospital even though they go there as soon as they are prompted to do so so its not like the timer runs out. Lots of people just saying "oh its a bug" or "load an earlier save and hope it doesn't happen again" but heres something that has worked for me on a few playthroughs that I cant see anyone else online posting.

For whatever reason Sinjin and his henchmen go hostile and kill Kent, this is caused by them reacting to the robots (the mr handy nurses and protecterons) on the upper floors. You should kill one of the henchmen (either Northy or Smiling Kate), go to the hospital and kill every robot in there before killing the other henchman. Now you can go to the hospital and make it to Kent without Sinjin going hostile and killing him as soon as you enter the building.

Hope this helps.

Spoiler
Never had Kent being prematurely killed. Once you enter the room where the showdown is, just don't go too far in, otherwise Sinjin's speech will glitch and he shoots Kent. If entered correctly, do all speech as Silvershroud to get his henchmen to back down, then pop a jet (Sinjin is faster than you if you don't and will shoot Kent), headshot Sinjin, raise your arms in victory, talk to Kent, loot the room, leave, mission accomplished.

Ah forgive my newbie move. Not sure how to hide something with a spoiler tag. If anyone could show me how or a mod could edit the post it would be appreciated.

I've had this issue a few times myself, every time it happened it was on the second floor just after the 2 turrets and before you drop down a hole in the floor. Its not about how far you can enter the final room, it happens long before you get anywhere near that point.

Anyway thats how you fix it if you get this problem: Clear the robots first before you even go to the hospital.

bring something precise, high damage and cheap in vats.

you won't be able to land more than 2 or 3 shots before kent gets killed, and he has hell high damage resistance

i totally was not able to save him without cheating, and even with tgm on it took me 5 or 6 tries (the highest weapon i had with me was <50dam though, not exactly suitably equipped...)

another case like this is jake finch (i genuinely HATE slag), though that one would certainly be easier without having ones mind set on saving the settler, too :-)

That's bad. In my game, Sinjin just froze, aiming to Kent, and all the other enemies came in my direction. I used the "Pain Train" perk to pass through them and used V.A.T.S. to kill Sinjin in a single critical shot.

Try to change the speak options. Maybe it helps! I hope you can save him.

I saved him but like I say its nothing to do with the speech options with Sinjin. Every time in the past Kent was killed either immediately after entering the hospital or when I got to the second floor but before dropping through the hole in the floor which leads to the basemant elevator. This means he dies long before I even got anywhere near the elevator to the basemant to trigger the conversation.

Like I say I found out it was caused by Sinjin and his goons reacting to the robots on the floors above them. Tested this by completely ignoring everything and running to them even after I got the message saying I failed to save Kent, when I got to the basemant Kent was dead right at the elevator door (not up on the platform where you normally find him) and Sinjin and crew were walking around the room with their weapons aimed at the ceiling.

Yes, this.

Another tactic: I had all 5 pistol perks, the "critical banker" perk, and a maxed-out .44 revolver. I inerrupted Sinjin's speech with VATS.. Seems Sinjin can't survive being critical-double-tapped in the eye.

I convinced Sinjin to shoot me first, this way you can save Kent too ;)

I'll have that in mind, altho I would think it still requires the henchmen to back off, else they will do the dirty work :)

Yeah, I know of this option for high charisma, but since it is usually my dump stat (don't do much regarding settlements) it is usually not an option for me (I don't savescum in order to do speech checks)

Jet. Jet and VATS and headshot criticals. I think I used Kellogg's .44. Never had a problem.

New char is a melee type with 10 points in str and end. Not at all sure how she's going to handle it. Pain Train may be the way to go. And jet.

I'm amazed how much I rely on chems in this game compared to F3 where I never touched them at all.

Use the speech checks if you have the skill to provoke Sinjin to attack you first.

Yup thats what I did.

I've seen people use the syringer rifle to get Sinjin to back off. Also worth a try if your charisma is not high enough...

Just choose the "Speak as Shroud" options. They'll lose their nerve and run leaving Sinjin to face you solo.

Speak As Shroud is always worth doing :)

Oh I always do that (see my first post with the spoiler tag) It was just in reference to, interrupting Sinjin during his speech :)

I must try this speech check thingy. I've done it three times and always gone for the shoot first option as he seems to get killed if I don't. It's basically the hardest single thing to do in the game IMO - it always takes four or five tries before I manage to take them down before they kill Kent (which is not an option IMO as I like him). But will try the speak as Shroud speech check thing this time.

BTW, spoiler tags shouldn't be needed in the spoiler forum IMO.

My tricks was to move well in with an combat rifle, pump psykojet and take them out in VAT the two closest first then the left and finally the right one outside of VAT

No perks into VAT improvements. Took it in multiple steps as I assigned multiple hit to both in case I missed.

Talk to Sinjin as the Shroud, ignoring his protests. His minions will back down, making it 1v1 with Sinjin. Then take his head off with the most powerful gun you've got. As others have mentioned, the appropriate chems help. It's not hard to do, unless you get the glitch people mentioned earlier this thread...not sure how to work around that.

By far the most reliable way is to convince him to attack you first, if you have decent charisma. Just save scum until you get it.

I thought it was on a timer. I've gotten the message that I've failed keeping him alive (i.e. that he was killed) before even reaching the room via the elevator.

That is hilarious. Almost as much as the "Have you seen Wild Bill" conversation in the Pitt.

My game was bugged, as soon as I came out of the second elevator I got the failed objective pop up. Like the op said(I learnt this workaround from reddit BTW)you go there before and kill all robots, I have a new bug now where no matter how many times I go to good neighbour I don't the the radio frequency so I can't upgrade the silver Shroud gear, nice one beth.

If you did the quest when your level was above 45 then you won't be able to upgrade it until you're level 100 (still a bug, but you should be able to upgrade it eventually).
