Simple Essentials Question...

Post » Thu Dec 16, 2010 10:38 am

I just returned to Oblivion after several months off, and can't remember how to use Skycaptain's "Simple Essentials" mod. How do you fill your water bottles at bodies of water? I no longer have the readme, and the RELZ thread is missing on the forums :(.

Well, rather a late reply, but I came across this unanswered thread while searching for something else. Just in case the OP doesn't have the answer, this is how you do it-

-Go into your inventory while looking at a well, or any body of water, for a lake or river I think you have to be actually standing in the water.
-Hover your mouse over a potion bottle, an empty water bottle or a bottle of wine.(Hover, don't click)
-Click on the 'E' key while hovering.
If you hovered over a potion bottle you get a new filled water bottle.
If you hovered over an empty water bottle you get it filled
If you hovered over a wine bottle, and you've got an empty water bottle, you get two bottles of watered wine.

Getting water from anywhere but a well will give you dirty water. You can drink it but you might get a disease.

I love this mod, I wish Skycaptain would release it again for everyone to enjoy.

Thanks! I eventually figured it out after LOTS of trial and error. And I agree, it's a great mod. Gotta remember to back it up though, as it seems to be gone from the Internet... :(.

This is the only essentials mod I use.

I am on the bandwagon about Skycaptain putting it back up - it's simply awesome.

I agree wholeheartedly. I've tried all the alternatives (including playing without any realism mods at all), and I always come back to Simple Essentials--it does everything I want, without being annoying. I'd recommend it to anyone playing this game ... except it's not available any more. (Another mod I'd like to see restored/improved is Shad's Water Bucket Plus, which was developed as a companion mod for Simple Essentials ... it provided refillable waterskins ... but sadly, that has disappeared too.)

I will put it back up, don?t worry. And wow, I?m so happy to hear people are still using it, or even talking about it - I mean it must have been unavailable for a year? :)

The version that was up was a beta, and while it seems it could have been 1.0 just as well, there was this mixup which distracted me from the mod for a moment, then I got caught up with making DR6 and seriously I haven?t played the game or touched Simple Essentials since. :P

DR6 is soon ready, so I can make a new beta release, and see if anyone wants to report any minor bugs, makes more sense when I get my own game running and play with Simple Essentials myself, then I can test any reported problems, if there are any. :)

It really is the best out there - the only one with instant support for any mod that adds food.

Me too. I've used it since the beta release. It works simply and flawlessly; I've never felt the need to use any other eat/drink/sleep mod. It would, I think be a real service to the community if this mod could be made available again.

Edit for struppekutter

It's a survivial mod that requires the PC to eat, drink, and sleep. For eating, you just click on any bit of 'food' in your inventory to eat it. You need 3 bits of food to fill you up. So far as I can tell, anything that any mod adds that concievably be considered food counts, so for exanple, all the food added by Salmo the Baker will count, as will the foods added by Better Cities. No need for a Cobl plate or any clutter.

I explained how drinking works further up the thread. A few extra details. All drinks count to slake your thirst, but 'proper' drinks, beer, wine and stuff, give you limited benefits, eg 1 point restore health for a limited time. As most proper drinks in game are alchohlic I run the risk of inebriation (using OOO). That's why I make lots of watered wine I get the health benefits without the inebriation.

Sleeping works as you would expect, sleep on any bed when you get tired.

There's minor benefits from being well fed, full of liquid and freshly rested, and increasing negative effects if you ignore those needs, all instantly reversible.

One (of many) nice features is the often amusing messages you get on screen. Eg when checking to see whether you need to eat (hover over an item and click on left control), If you hover over a non food item you might get 'I'm hungry, but eating that could get ugly'.

Hmm, I?m flattered really. I should still have the pack I uploaded somewhere, and of course I still have the esp in my load order, I just can?t remember if there?s any changes that could potentially cause problems evidently not present in the one I uploaded.

So I could see if I still have the original zip, if I find it I could probably make a new beta thread on weekend/tomorrow, tonight I have heavy modding to attend to. :)

EDIT: BTW, if someone has long enough memory to remember the hassle involving the last beta thread, keep those memories to yourself, please. It was one of those misunderstandings that sometimes rise, it was dicussed and misunderstanding were cleared, between friends. ;)

Hah, Skycaptain has fallen for my Machiavellian plan :)

I was actually searching for the original thread for Simple Essentials yesterday. I wanted to PM you privately to see whether there was any chance of the mod being resurrected (I thought it better to do by PM), however I came across the post asking for assistance, and chose to answer it (weeks too late) in order to see if it stirred up memories for anyone.

It worked!

Adding my voice to the chorus- "Simple Essentials" is the only "needs" mod I ever actually enjoyed using. It's very good, indeed. :)

Can anyone send me the latest version, while Skycaptain hasn't uploaded yet? It's just I have some time to play Oblivion tonight and really want to enjoy this mod again. Thanks.

If anyone wants to upload the latest beta temporarily, I have nothing against that. :)

I think there wasn?t any documentation included though, it was all in the beta thread, which has been purged... :(

If Simple Essentials wants out, so does Governing Attributes ( and the others that are held against their will in your HDD ) :spotted owl:

Ah, Governing Attributes, it?s still missing some code (repeating the same few lines to all skills) to show the effects of the mod in normal skill menu. I made a succesful test with one skill, then I kinda got distracted, again. Sigh. :P

I really like it myself, tooks the Attributes on a new level of meaning, all the gameplay related stuff is fully working. I really should release it...

I don't feel comfortable uploading it to any of the major file servers--that honor is for Skycaptain--but if anyone would like to test Simple Essentials before the discussion thread is re-opened, I can provide a (temporary) link to the lastest beta via pm. Note, however, that I will take it down as soon as the mod is back in development.
