@ Cry- Tom

Youre evading a straight answer do you?
We and the baholete wanted to know..
will the PC version of Crysis2 have the same technical-optical quality as Crysis 1/Warhead?
(that includes high res textures and features only available on PC in Dx10/11)
Were not talkin about what the "Engine" is generally or eventually will be capable of in future games ..
we want to know about Crysis 2 in specific!

Crysis 2 will have High resolution textures like Crysis 1, it will support DX10 and probably DX11

Some of the PC DX10/11 only features include: deffered ligthing, Realistic Face animations, Tesselation*

*not yet confirmed

The "Next Gen Ready" is not a program or a feature that next generation of consoles will have, it means that Cryengine 3 is scalable to Hardware that will be used in the future used not only by consoles but PCs too

that means you can take a Current Cryengine 3 game, and in the future when the Consoles and PC components are more powerful, add Advanced AI, increase the Textures resolution, Modify the enviroment, add more detail, more props, more destruction, etc so it takes advantage of future hardware

for example, in 2014, i take Crysis 2, now I will add more destructible thing to it, higher resolution textures and higher Polygon Models because the current hardware of 2014 can handle it, but if i released all this on 2011, the hardware of that time would struggle

This Feature is already present on the PC version somehow, Crysis 2 PC version will have higher resolution textures, models, more destruction, better physics and DX11 support i think

The mass physics you saw on the video are made aren't probably realtime, rather rendered on a PC to show how will Future PC's and Consoles Physics will be

if they added that amount of physics and destruction to the game, 90% of the player's PCs could not Handle it and the Gameplay experience from a guy who plays on low setting and one who plays on highest settings would be very different, and thats what Crytek want to avoid, they want to deliver a Similar experience to everyone, even console players.

Basically we all know what you're asking and at this point the smart money is on "Crysis 2 isn't going to be that technically advanced".

But if you read your own question and take it literally you're actually asking what is going to happen between now and the Next generation consoles. You did not explicitly limit your question to a known time frame, you did not even explicitly ask anything about Crysis 2 or even Crytek products in general.

So if Crysis 2 doesn't contain Next Gen footage then your question becomes impossible to answer except to say what he said. This is because it could be a 2016 before we see new consoles and Crytek don't know what the market will be like then much less what it's competitors/licensees will be doing on PC.

That said if we had Maxed out PC footage this wouldn't be an issue.

Seriously... seems i have to rephrase for some people to get it.

The question: will we get the "Next gen Ready" stuff for the pc? Or we have to wait for the "next generation CONSOLES" to get that stuff?

equals to:

The question: will we get the "Next gen Ready" stuff for the pc VERSION OF CRYSIS 2? Or we have to wait for the "next generation CONSOLES" to get that stuff IN CRYSIS 3 OR SOME OTHER GAME MADE WITH CRYENGINE 3?

I thought the stuff i added in caps and bold were obvious. Anyway, i rephrased and i am kindly asking Tom to answer my updated and clear question. Thank you again!

but using the term "next gen" is wrong because PC does NOT have generations

if you are referring to the MASS PHYSICS shown on the video at the part of next gen ready then

N O

there will be no mass physics of that magnitude on CRYSIS 2 (buildings falling and other stuff are just scripted events, they aren't affected by physics of the game)

If you are asking yourself what mass physics are, it's an large amount of Objects (destructible parts, trees, npcs, vehicles, props that interact with physics like gravity, collision, force etc. caused by numerous factors like a explosion, wind, a punch, throwing something, etc

Example: A house being destroyed in 2000 individual pieces that fall from gravity, and collide with each other

and they are not being added to crysis 2 because it would take a very powerfull PC to handle them

However you can mod them in on Sandbox3 and enjoy the "next gen" mass physics if you have a powerful PC

TL;DR

next gen ready stuff= more stuff that moves

more stuff that moves = more computer powered required

Crysis 2 wont have "more stuff that moves" because people dont have powerful computers

in future people will have powerful computer and more powerful console to have "more stuff that moves"

or "more stuff that moves" can be done on Game editor (sandbox 3)

so yes, it comes with PC version

Seems this is still a secret, although the demo is coming in a few days. Ok, i guess we will have to wait until then to see if we get the "next gen" stuff that was shown in some of the cryengine 3 trailers. I'm almost certain we won't, but hope dies last. So let's watch it die slowly.

What exactly did you mean by that ??!!
well and anyway that next generation content will probably be available for modders to achieve using advance console commands and the cry engine 3 tools .

Moderators and Admins (which Tom and Adam both are) can post in locked threads on phpBB boards. However, the thread would sink into oblivion, since they're not going to answer.

Games Development Conference 2009 Crytek announced CryEngine 3 = Next-Gen Ready.

Destructoid - 12:00 PM on 03.30.2009
The tech demo started off in the room you see in the video starting at the three second mark. The purpose of this room was to show off how advanced the lighting system has gotten. With the CryEngine2, three to eight light sources could be used at a time. Now, as you can see in that first portion of the video, over 300 lights are being shown.

The CE3 was built with a top down approach. The priority is of course, for the PC. When a company puts out a game using the CE3 on multiple platforms, it’s going to look the best on the PC. But now it’s easier than ever for a developer to bring their game over to the consoles and not have to put in a ton of work to get their game to run on the console when developing a multiplatform game. On top of all that, CE3 is ready for whatever the next big systems Microsoft and Sony are working on. The engine is next-gen ready.

joystick - Apr 7th 2009
Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli had some major statements to make about the future of console development and his company's proprietary engine, CryENGINE 3. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Yerli said, "If I want to make a next-gen launch title I could do that by pushing the boundaries of the engine," referencing CryENGINE 3 as the bridge between generations. Expounding on the reasoning behind this, Yerli said, "If it's for PS3 you can develop on the PS3 and you're done with it ... the next hardware comes along you have to start again. Whatever happens, we don't want developers to be the victims of change and repositioning."

Crytek has stated before that it expects the next-gen by 2011 -- a predicition it's not alone in making -- but never before has it made these type of assertions with such authority. Citing talks with Microsoft and Sony, Yerli says, "We wanted to make an engine that's ready for next-gen inherently. Writing the driver layers for the next PlayStation or next Xbox will be quite simple for us." So what you're saying is Crysis 2 will be coming packed-in with the X-Station 2160? Count us in!

PS3 Secrets.com - January 23, 2011
CryENGINE 3 ?? thе initially enhancement platform fοr Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, MMO, DX9/DX10 thаt аl?ο ?? truly Next-Gen-Ready – w?th scalable computation аnd graphics fοr аll major upcoming platforms. It provides thе complete game engine tο mаkе AAA quality next generation games, аnd includes thе CryENGINE 3Sandbox? level editor, a production-proven, 3rd generation Whаt уου see ?? whаt уου play (WYSIWYP) – tool designed bу аnd fοr professional developers. CryENGINE 3 comes w?th significant nеw features specifically designed fοr console, online, MMO аnd Next-Gen game enhancement.

I presume all platforms get the next gen ready now and the engine is scalable for future pc hardware and consoles.

it is really unfortunate that ppl didnt answer th epoor guy properly,
its either too much secrets, too lazy to answer, or maybe
they feels some new member is just a nobody.

guy: do u have any info on ur upcoming product?
old member/crytek: no
guy: cant u tell anything at all?
old member/crytek: get lost
guy: pretty pls
old member/crytek: its a good game
guy: good? but no info?
old member/crytek: no, buy it.
guy: how to buy if no info on product?
old member/crytek: i dont care, buy it.

thats how i see it. maybe its because they think,
ppl will buy anyway, so dont need to respect and be good to customer,
dont care what end user says, the maker is always right.
cmon, how u xpect ppl to buy ur product if there i no info at all.

dude ask a simple question, why dont give some decent answer.

IMO you will have to wait longer than March 25th to see that level of detail in a game but the way Sony and MS are dragging their heels on new hardware. I am not 100% convinced you will need to wait until next generation consoles.

    • The answer was already said.
    • A moderator can't know what the developers don't tell.
    • You are writing on an open forum where all the members of this forum can participate. If you want that only 1 person answer, write a PM.
    • If you don't like the answer, it's your problem.
    • If you are rude and disrespectful, don't expect an answer. Most probably you'll be ignored (basic rule for moderators).

-the answer was vague at best. I asked if Crysis 2 will have the visual fidelity that was shown in the cryengine 3 trailers as "next gen ready". The answer was "cryengine 3 is next gen ready". How exactly does that answer my question?

-agree on this one, but i was hoping not only moderators read this forum, but members of the dev team as well

-i don't want 1 specific person to answer, i want 1 person which knows 100% the answer to my question. And since i don't know who that person is, i have to make it public. Plus, if a real answer does come, i'm sure everyone would want to see it, not just me

-it's not that i like or don't like the answer. It's what the answer actually is. And it's not a direct answer. I (and many others surely) want a simple, clear answer

-where exactly was i rude? telling Tom that he gave a "politicians answer"? How exactly is that rude?
