Simplicity nay-sayers should have a look at this...

I think you will be pleasantly surprised :)

Also, the clips with no commentary over them are pretty sweet :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_m_5zFY4sM&feature=feedu

Hopefully, this video will ease a lot of people's opinion a bit about the whole "simplicity" controversy! :tes:

EDIT: Just a thought.

On the whole thing about things being "hidden" rather than being removed.

Remember the the two different pictures where the PC had two different pauldrons but had the same cuirass? Remember all of the different details about smithing? What if smithing is the thing that is hiding the "removed" or "merged" armor pieces? What if you can simply make your armor looks noticeably different, while still having the same base design? What if you can have different pauldrons through smithing? Just a thought.

the simplicity of it is just a matter of opinion, but thank you, that is a calming video.

This is pure awesomeness.
Tho, nothing new really (or did I miss something?).
I wonder, if they have those parts without the commentry behind... Will they publish all of what we have seen at E3 without commentry? I really hope so :)

Why would the opinion of a person from the company making the game ease the controversy? That's like saying "Hay guise, the PR manager from the oil company said they're totally not harming the environment! That's a load off huh?"

Everyone kept saying
"Oh no! Everything is simplified and there are no RPG elements left in the game its just being dumbed down so CoD players can play it and there are also no numbers I liked being a hardcoe RPG player but now I can't because everything is dumbed down :superdisappointedface: "

But he reassures the people that think the game went the simplistic route saying that they broadened the scope of the game so more people that like different genres will get the game, but everything they had in the other TES games RPG-wise are still back in, but just behind the scenes. Nothing is "actually" simplified, it just looks that way.

I really hope so. That's actually what I thought was coming with the 5th anniversary edition of Oblivion, but apparently all it is is the trailer.

It's been simplified, they have removed things, some of the things they have changed have been incorporated in a different way that is more simplified.

otherwordsotherwords the game has been simplified to a degree, that doesn't mean it's bad, but is has been simplified.

thats called sophostry. "broadened" could mean any thing. and no this is just the same chewed up and recycled information. even though they are saying that all the old elements are not gone but are just "behind the scenes" is their way of beating around the bush because they don't want to loose the people who play the game specficly because they like the "spread sheet" rpg elements. the fact that they continue to belittle the aspect that they claim has not been dumbed down is asinine and transparent.

I think he said it perfectly. The numbers are still there and the dual-wielding and spell combos add a new layer of complexity, but the game looks deceptively simple to the average player just looking for a cool action game.

Bethesda, in a sense, have found a way to appeal to the COD crowd without selling out to them. Its fiendishly brilliant.

Yep 2+2+2+2 +2=10 5x2 =10 simplification doesnt have to mean wrong or bad it can be bad but it doesnt have to be.

Phones are simplified. No longer do you have to use a ring dial to call an operator who will then send you to the person you want to call.

It's nice seeing the clips again and this interviewer seems sharper than most, but Lafferty answered nothing. They all do a good job of answering all questions with their bullet points. Which is fine, it's part of their job.

Absolutely nothing new here.

In other words;

It's essentially the same old TES game, but with 25% Chameleon on to deceive people that are into different genres.

Don't worry about it ;) I'm sure it'll all be OK once the game comes out :celebration:

Listen, whether it's good or bad is a matter of opinion. I've always thought that the RPG elements of prior games were very weak, and were never really the major appeal of the series. Ask most people what they loved about Daggerfall and they'll say it's the fact that it's so ridiculously huge. Ask people what they liked about Morrowind and it's the sheer alien appeal of the setting, the way it turned a bunch of fantasy tropes on their heads and expanded the lore to a fantastic degree. Ask people what they loved about Oblivion and... well, let's not go there :P It's a highly controversial one, just as Skyrim is turning out to be.

But it's ridiculous to say that the mechanics are not being simplified. Streamlined, of course, and it will be for the better in that department, but simplified all the same. No attributes, for one thing. No variable character speed. No initial character building. And they've stated specifically that they're trying to simplify things precisely so that it's easier for people new to the series to just jump in and start playing. That's straight from the horse's mouth. They eliminated anything they thought could potentially be confusing to new players and a bit of depth was lost in the process. The real burning question is whether or not it was worth it. Some people adamantly shout no and decry the decision as one of the worst things that could happen to the series. Some are overjoyed to learn that the somewhat confusing Morrowind and Oblivion style leveling is gone and they can see direct improvements from one level to the next thanks to the perks. That's for everyone to decide on their own, obviously.

From what Lafferty said, you can conclude that:
1. Arrtibutes are still there, but hidden, to appeal to more people.
2. They haven't emliminated, but rather carefully hid things, to where they may seems like they aren't there, but in reality they are right where they're supposed to be. :)

I know that it's a matter of opinion, but maybe what he said could change their opinion in some way :)

No offense, but they said that over and over already, so not really anythign new here. The problem is they haven't delivered anything yet to show us this would be true, and mere words aren't going to ease the concerns at this point.

this. I was kindof worried a little bit that skyrim was getting dumbed down. (not as much compared to other people) and now im still concern, just not as much. Like someone said it will be a Normal TES game with 25% invisibility

[MrSmileyFaceDude] "I'm sorry, but what part of "without losing our broiler rpg fans" don't you understand?

[Slateman] "Each of the faction lines in this game have plots and quests to much greater depth over MW. Quality, not quantity."

[MrSmileyFaceDude] "I know you don't want to hear it, but you're just going to have to trust us that the dialogue is better than Morrowind's."

[Todd] "As you play, you start to figure out what you can do with these NPCs, and how you can influence their behavior, and when doing a quest, it really comes into play. A simple 'get the diamond from that guy...' quest can be done in hundreds of ways now."----------- the Orum gangs behavior probably the most sensible to alter did not change in the least, if the leader was slain, the runner still runs, of the runner was slain, a new one isnt made, if the runners contacts are slain, she still makes the trip  Radiant story is definently going to remedy this it seems

[VSXX] "We have everything from mice to moles to crickets. The most fearsome you have ever seen even! You thought sleeping at night with a singing cricket outside your window was bad. You wait till you meet the one that plays a 14 piece drum set outside your window."

[Pete] "Honestly, and this is just my opinion, I think the broiler RPG guys are going to love what we have in store for them in Oblivion. The depth, the level of polish...it crushes Morrowind. That doesn't mean that other people won't want to buy it and play it because it's a beautiful game that has fun combat and cool quests. We'll make enough copies for everyone."

[MrSmileyFaceDude] "You'll be reading LOTS of stuff. All of the quest lines are much more in depth, challenging and interesting. And there's a heck of a lot more to the game than just the guilds and the main quest. Lots and lots of other things to do that haven't been mentioned. Stats play a huge, huge role. Class actually has meaning this time. The game is better balanced. You have more rewards for advancement besides just getting better at things. The dungeons are better designed, the NPCs are more interesting, the dialogue is better written

If you think this is a simple, dumbed down hack & slash, you couldn't be more wrong.

[BlueDev] "For Oblivion, there's a very concious effort to avoid too much random information spewing by NPCs. Fear not--there's still the same amount of info to be found in the game. In fact, the NPCs probably have more than ever to say; it just makes more sense for them to say it."

[[MrSmileyFaceDude] "Oblivion is infinitely superior to Morrowind in every conceivable way."

[MattRyan] "So for all of you thinking that it would be neat to steal something, and then take off on your horse....guess what? An NPC can do the same pepper paste trick to you as well. "

[spoiler][quote][Todd] "The clothing you wear does affect certain NPC's, but not in a big way, it’s subtle.

[MrSmileyFaceDude] "Just because you can attempt to bribe someone does not mean they'll automatically accept it."

[MattRyan] "We are gamers. We have given tons of time toward the balance of gameplay. Asside from the designers, artists, programmers, and producers.... our staff of QA testers are extremely good at exploiting our game systems and looking for loopholes in gameplay, or shortfalls in fun vs. realism.

In conclusion, to completely cut out any adjustment to difficulty in enemies would not be fun, just as making all creatures off-set to your level would not be fun."----- no arguments there but they do exactly that in Oblivion

[Slateman] "Yep. To second MSFD, we don't auto-level exactly to your level. We have all sorts of adjustments available. If we didn't the game would be boring "

[MattRyan] "If everything was leveled then you'd have no fear of anything in the game ('I can beat everything!') We plan on scaring the heck out of the player by higher level creatures.

[spoiler][quote][MrSmileyFaceDude] "We happen to think that console gamers are smarter than that, and the success of Morrowind on Xbox proves that console gamers actually ARE interested in games with MORE depth and complexity than some people seem to think they are."--------

[MrSmileyFaceDude] "We could make traditional creatures that looked like every other depiction of those creatures you've seen in books, food network, or other games, but then where's the originality in that?"---------

[Slateman] "Trust me, you're going to get lost if you wander in these forests and don't use the compass or map."

[MrSmileyFaceDude] "Oblivion is an extremely rich, complex game with a tremendous amount of depth, compelling quest lines, interesting NPC characters, a huge variety of player character types and intricate character progression set in a huge, varied game world. combat, magic, and AI have all been dramatically improved to enhance gameplay while still providing a balance between player skill and character skill, because after all, Oblivion is a role playing game. Yes, some things that were present in Morrowind are not in Oblivion -- but a lot more has been added than removed, and the goal has always been to make a game that is both more accessible to first-time RPG players, and is also challenging and rewarding for more experienced players."

Sentinel] "The sad fact is that many development studios can't afford to bankroll their own game development. So they rely on publishers to give them the money to create these games. The problem with this is that the publisher then feels they should have input into the game since they are spending the money. Hence Atari and EA have such a big influence on a game they publishJust glad here at Bethesda we are our own publisher and developer and have delicious reign to make what we want

[MrSmileyFaceDude] "We're NOT going to slap in features that don't work well just to say we have them.".".-------

[Pete] "Holidays this year'

[Pete] "You know if you have a 360 it will look as good as it can possibly look. If you have the latest, greatest PC with the best recipe card, etc., it will probably look the same as the Xbox 360 version."

[MrSmileyFaceDude] "The compass, the quest marker and compass icons, are NOT the hand-holding, dumbing down babysitter some folks paint them out to be."------------ I'd disagree in my opinion

[Hayt] "We're around on a daily basis, and we're reading. When we're ready to comment on things, you'll all know."

any of this sounds familiar?
