Nah bukee, I thinks its a totally valid example sorry. they took their art design, went to town and made it more complex...or improved it if you will, they also made ships less fodder, and more useful so that you don't have to throw waves upon waves of ships after an objective, and improved how combat plays out not to mention the first game didn't have systems...just planets and abstracted systems -now- they have systems with multiple planets and more dynamics within those systems, yes the system count went down by half but the Tradeoff is -more- than worth it.

They went and took a basic game, improved it over time, gave it 3 expansions packs, expanded on Lore, encounters just about everything under the sun and now they
-dare- to redesign the game and improve in every field and not cater to a specific group? hah....and from what I've read about all the Jaw dropped faces of people who don't know about the company and suddenly svcked in even the guys that don't really do RTS space games WITHOUT STREAMLINING IT OR MAKING IN MORE ACCESSIBLE. and then there are some posters I've seen who said "nah this isnt my type of game I'll pass" and they'll go about their business. with all the hype beth is flagging around and with the things they've spoken the most about, all you hear are aspects that will get those kind of people hooked because its flashy (not implying the poster was any kind of anything, he was completely valid in his statements). there is utterly no need for this "streamlining" business, none. you want to sell? make a solid game, don't gut the player character systems -functionality- not asthetics because people "ruined" their characters after a certain time of play, especially when Skyrims current system -ensures- that doesn't happen...alright you got that down how about a little more depth for the people that care?

In Jan, I was expect Skyrim to take everything previous games did well, Arena's initiation of the Series, Daggerfalls detail to quests, factions, character developement, Morrowids attention to detail of the world, the gameplay choices, the faction interplay, the there is actually something going on in this world, and Oblivions Blow me away Graphics, -enhanced- combat but with more dynamics than just slash slash slash and Shivering isle memorable characters even though much are only memorable for their eccentricities.

Is that so hard? They had a small team working on Dragons for 2 years, it will be the first time in my eyes that Dragons aren't a gimmick, integral to the story, and world and adds an amazing Dynamic to exploration in general, Dual wielding was not planned from the start, but once they played with it, they redesigned the combat system around it, we have other diversions now, jobs, maybe fishing, doing everything the NPC's do effectively nearly everything you can do in fable, and it -might- not be a gimmick. so don't tell me..they couldnt of taken the best and move forward with that

Is that so hard?

YES, IT IS!

The shear technical differences are completely different, the entire amount of data and detail TES games has are much more than the randomly generated worlds of that game.
It is technically IMPOSSIBLE to just grab the last game, remake it and add more stuff to it. You add more and more and it becomes a convoluted mess (remember the Master of Orion 3 example? This happened to it), that's not only hard to look over, it's also makes the game totally instable, unbalanced if it will have any detail at all.
There's a reason why these games are well known for their bugs, and that's not simply because they're lousy programmers. They repeat time and time again, how there's too much stuff in the game, and the more you add to it, the higher the chance that it will just crumble under its own weight.

And with this "streamlining" and "going for a bigger market" you're completely off the point. If they try to market this for EVERYONE, wouldn't they try to do this better? I remember one of the interviews, somebody asked Todd if Fallout fans would like this game and Todd was unsure. They're boarding the audience, but not to everyone, that's impossible. You said that there were people on that board who said they plain don't like those kind of games, though I have no idea why would anyone register just for that, but what were the examples Todd bought up on interviews? How they've screwed up at some points, like at the beginning, or the end, and how this and that feature is just bad...
They're making the game more user friendly, yes, but that doesn't mean they want to target the CoD audience, no matter how anyone would think that they're added sprint just for that...
Speaking of features, these cries about "unwanted things" really annoy me. Yeah, they're obviously added Weddings for the Sims fans and dragons and finishing moves for 12 year olds, not because, I don't know, it might enrichen the experience...
