Sims Going Medieval On You

I've never played any Sims game before, but this trailer was hilarious:

Is anyone planning to buy this one?

LOL, if it was an expansion for the Sims 3 maybe, but a standalone game, no.

But Turk, (thats his name in the show Scrubs) did a really good job selling it.

I am very very tempted, never played any Sims but this ticks a lot of my medieval boxes.

(Till Stronghold 3 anyway)

Dammit, Turk, you could have only done better if you were Isaiah Mustafa.

Speaking of which...

Hello, Gamers! Look at your Sims. Now Back to mine. Now back to your Sims. Now back to Mine! Sadly, they aren't mine, but if your Sims stopped taking showers and started fighting dragons in a medieval setting, they could look like they're mine. Look down, back up. Where are you? You're in a castle with the Sims your Sims could look like. What's in your hand? Back at me. It's a wand that casts spells at that thing you hate. Look again. The wand is now a sword! Anything is possible when your Sims stop cowering at the sight of slightly old cheese. I'm on a noble steed.

...sorry.

I've played most of the SIms games, was a bit underwhelmed with 3 just because it lacked so much content compared to other games, even before the earlier ones had expansions. But, I love building things so i might just get this if there's a steam sale or somethingm I tihnk i could have some fun with it.

At any rate, the commercial was awesome.

I love Turk. I'm not going to buy it, but I give them credit for making a great commercial.

I pre-ordered it on Amazon. It was released yesterday, and I should get it in the mail in a few days.

It seems to have some definite promise.

Still have to wait until Friday. Blasted differences in release dates. Markets, you should realise that we've reached near complete globalisation now! ^_^

Not sure I'm going to get it on not, I'm more interested in Battlefield 3 and that will be the first and only EA game I get this year.

You don't really "build" anything in it, which is one of the best parts about The Sims, for me anyway. I never really do anything other than build. It's like dumbed-down CAD software to me.

Let us know how it stacks up to other sims games and how it stands on it's own, this one is on my "Quite possibly because Steam deals in Euro and thus everything is cheap...list"

So you don't actually build and design your castle and so on? Or do you get a premade castle and then customise the furniture and accessories in it? If the overall gameplay is fun then the latter would be enough for me I think, but I'll hold off and see what people think, and look at some reviews.

I've never played any of the other SIMs games. So I wouldn't know.

But on Amazon there are some reviews that compare. They seem to say that it stands well on it's own, and is not just SIMS 3 with medieval clothes. They say it's more "quest" oriented.

Sounds like they took the World Adventures expansion for The Sims 3 and made an entire, medieval themed, game out of it.

That's pretty accurate, but it lacks the exploration of World Adventures. Each hero has a profession. You do boring quests which consist of making sure your "focus" is high by eating good food and being rested, and then click "find the [whatever] on the forest". Then your hero walked into the forest, and disappears for 20 seconds before a splash screen comes up with some kind of choice, and then "you found the [whatever]!". In between doing this you talk to people, like "ask two townsfolk about the [whatever]", "buy a book about [whatever]", "ask that lady to free that person from the stocks so you can click on "friendly > discuss weather" 50 times so you have a high enough relationship with them to ask them where you can find [whatever]".

So it's all rabbit holes? Why didn't maxis learn it was stupid when they did it in the Sims 3?

Maxis isn't even involved with The Sims series anymore. The Sims 3 was made in-house by EA from what I understand.

Partially true. Most of the Maxis staff working on the Sims series are now part of EA. They just migrated (technically, since they actually just moved their desks a few metres ^_^) to the "EA Sims" studio, while some left after Spore was done, or stayed to develop Darkspore.

I bought it tonight. Gonna start playing it in a bit, I'll let ya'll know how it is.

Well first impressions are kind of hard. It kills my graphics card running it up to 102 C temps, up to 104 C..and even 105 C which is the maximum my card can handle. I lowered graphic settings and what not but still couldn't get the temp down. So I was kinda rushing through the tutorial and had to back out and couldn't save. I might have to pick up a new GPU to be able to play this game or figure out some way to play it out of tutorial so I can stop after 20-30 minutes of play and take my time more when I do play. Without that issue, it'd be a pretty fun game.

By the nine divines. You sure your graphics card fan ain't broke or something? I don't think cards are suppose to get that hot. I know when my fan broke my geforce 6800 got to 115 C on morrowind.
