"Simulate" weather? =

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 7:23 pm

Since we can't make new weather types, I was wondering if there was a way to "simulate" something such as a sandstorm. Vanilla weather would cause you to have to walk through a desert, where you would expect a nice sandstorm, with rain as your only option. Therefore, some workaround would be appreciated.

I'm far from a scripting guru, but perhaps a giant animated static along the lines of the falling leaves in some tree mods with a script to make it enable and disable according to certain conditions? For instance, only switching on when the weather in the area is overcast. You would lose that weather type for that area, but you could set up a sand storm that way. Assuming scripting according to what the weather is like is even possible...

Disguise an ashstorm as a sandstorm?

I would disguise an ashstorm but it'll just replace the original ashstorm. I'll check in with the scripting idea...Thanks!

i remember wanting to make a new weather type for Valenwood, all it would do was make small green leaves fall from the canopy. (it'd look weird from above the trees though).

i'm sure a mesh that floats around the player is possible.

With scripting, I bet. In fact I'm fairly certain that is the way ashstorm already works, that is keeps that rotating wind mesh constantly around you. Just probably in a more hardcoded way rather than a "simple" script.

Wait, what? XD Have you taken a look at Region window and Weather Chances box, cause what you said in quote above makes no sense whatsoever. :P

I said that rain was the only other thing than clear that fits in a desert. I have made many regions! Just not for anyone but myself!
