I can't vote. I would rather have cuirasses and greaves as seperate pieces but I'm not bothered by the merging.

First of all, there is absolutely no reason to merge greaves and cuirass. Especially after Oblivion showed that fans are very vocal about number of armour slots.
There is such a thing as giving the fanbase what they want.

Secondly, its getting a bit silly that at every (perceived) cut in complexity and customisation there are still people eagerly on the fence about why it is a good thing and making up damnfool scenarios as to why objecting to less game for your buck is somehow a wrong standpoint.

Thirdly, and most importantly, I do not believe greaves and cuirass are merged.
I do not believe it because I have seen devs make subtle hints on threads like these and telling us again and again not to assume things.
My instinct tells me that that means that the assumption is wrong in some regard, and that there are details they are not allowed to tell us at this time.

How many have said it’s a good thing ? have not seen any, yes many don’t care, other like me understand the reason why they did it however it’s a long way from agreeing on it.

And yes I have no idea how the armor system works, except that it appears to be lots of armor variations.

True. But at risk of sounding rude I have no idea what the dev's were thinking when they made the choice to combine.

You also don't know that the dev's have made the choice to combine them. Unless we got confirmation overnight, the best we have seen so far was vsions yesterday saying "don't assume too much" (paraphrased).

Even if they are combined though, not caring a whole lot here. I'll be using moded armors for the most part anyway most likely.

I know people feel very strongly about this, but honestly it doesn't really bother me that much. If the cuirass and greaves were combined into one piece, I would probably say, "Huh. That's kind of lame." But then I would forget about it and get on with playing the game. I would not think about it for more than five seconds, tops.

So, if I had to choose yes/no, I would probably go with "no," but I'm not really too concerned about this.

This.

I would rather they were separate, but I won't cry about it.

The only reason you would want to wear armour of different armour sets is so you can look like a colossal pillock. The only armours that blended well in Oblivion were leather, iron, chainmail, and steel. Someone may want to wear only select pieces of armour for fashionable asymetry like with the many amour slots in Morrowind but that's about it. If you're conserned with not having enough enchantments available, just make the main piece of armour able to have multiple enchantments on it.

Which are most of the armour types that were available in that game... You forgot fur, not to mention all the normal clothes such as the blacksmith pants.

If they made this decision to be able to make more good-looking armors, so be it. YES!
There's also the smithing skill that could have influenced their decision.

But you get the idea. The idea that there is no variation its either full clothed or not fully clothed, and that's a little be odd to me.

Don't get me wrong, I wont cry about it and I will still play the game. But when I want to bust out a pair of leather greaves with a shirtless vest, I cannot.

If the opportunity is there to make your voice heard, you would be silly not to take that opportunity.

My theory is that it's so that folks wearing robes and folks wearing light/heavy armor get the same number of slots. If one type of armor gives an additional set of stat bonuses--and an extra enchantment slot--folks are encouraged to wear that rather than the single-piece item. Combining chest and greaves both equalizes numbers of slots and allows them more latitude in going for interesting looks. I feel a bit wistful about the loss of choice, but can see potential benefits.

Meh, they could have just let people wear pants under their robes.

I think that "if" the choice was made to combine cuirass/greaves it was probably more an artistic choice than mechanical.

More armor slots allow you to not only to customize your character, but personalize your character. Allowing your character to be unique is a huge feature in an RPG. Continually declining amounts of armor slots disallows the ability to personalize your character when you are forced to choose between a limited number of armor combinations. Pretty poor decision on Bethesda's part when it comes to re-attracting the gamer's they lost in the transition from Morrowind to Oblivion - but who cares about the minority of players who loved that game for everything it was? meh.

I agree and have a feeling the devs at BGS are secretly scoffing at us and our ludicrousness. Regardless of armour slots though, I don't see how a 300+ hour game is not getting enough bang for your buck. I'm not aware of many other games that offer this for a game of the same price. Hell, I've played games that cost the same as a TES game at release and some of them took me 12-15 hours to complete, and then I could not continue playing after the main quest. Let's not get all caught up in the minutiae especially when much of it is still unconfirmed.

I think that some of the armors will be together. But when you see Dovahkiin he's wearing the same Leather cuirass and pauldrens, ALTHOUGH sometimes he has the cuirass on without the pauldrens / pauldrens on without the cuirass

greaves might be part of the cuirass, but i think pauldrens are seperate. Loss one, gain another. Either way, I think the TES team has a surprise for us

How come?

Because I shouldn't have to go to a smith (or be skilled as one) just to remove a pauldron that comes off before the rest of the chest armor anyway.

Because how hell does one get into a full metal suit thats greaves, cuirass, and pauldrons without separating those pieces anyway?

Because why should I be tied down to an anvil if I just want to take off a particular piece of my armor?

I think you're right. I'll be the first to come back to this forum and admit I was wrong for standing behind Bethesda and all the changes they're making if they end up implementing something really silly. I wonder, if we end up getting pleasantly surprised by the new armour system, will all the haters come back and apologize to Bethesda for prematurely bashing them without having their facts straight?

All the evidences of customizable UPGRADEABLE armor are not enough?

All the "evidence" suggests that you can upgrade armor... as in the armor where the only part on your chest is some leather straps... your only pauldron is 100% leather... and your pants are simply fur... THEN... UPGRADE!!! Now there is a west under the straps, an iron piece covering the pauldron, and leather patches on the pans... THEN... UPGRADE!!! I don't recall the final upgrade picture perfectly but its a guy wearing the same armor but upgraded...

Above poster said: "will all the haters come back and apologize to Bethesda for prematurely bashing them without having their facts straight?"
I'd do it but I'm fairly sure I'm right in what I say... and that upgradeable armor isn't better than being able to chose not to wear a shirt... or to wear a leather cuirass with pants...
