Single armour piece: Cuirass/Greaves

Post » Thu Jun 30, 2011 1:20 am

This has been a hot topic forum wide for the last few weeks. It is an area where people have repeatedly expressed their concerns.

Whether you are FOR or AGAINST, I hope this poll will help to show more clearly how we feel about the possible decision to unify Cuirass and Greaves in to one armour piece.

Please make your vote.

---------------------------------------------------------

As requested for those that would like a FOR argument:

"As I have said before, the reason for merging them is to give the designers more freedom in designing armor without having to verify that all tops and bottoms fits. "

Thanks to Zaria.

---------------------------------------------------------

For speculations, I believe this highlights a strong argument:

"I voted "yes" in the (wishful?) belief that we are in for some hardcoe customisation under the smithing skill. There is ample evidence for this in the screenshots (ie the same pauldrons and curaiss seen separate from each other, then combined), and it would render the whole forging element worthwhile if we can assemble our "armour" from different components."

Thanks to Bavmorda's Muffin

---------------------------------------------------------

*Apologies if the information (vague at best) around this topic has been misleading and armour still comes in single pieces or there is a new system they are not talking about yet.

No, why would I want less customization?

I'm pretty sure there has been a poll like this, and the result was a pretty vehement "no." And I will again be voting "no."

I will personally be going for a NO. I believe in customisation and this will severely limit that.

*Apologies if this has already been done.

You may want to explain in your OP the reasons devs might have for limiting armor customization.

Otherwise, everyone will vote NO and this would be a senseless poll.

Is there a "I don't really care all that much" option?

I know people feel very strongly about this, but honestly it doesn't really bother me that much. If the cuirass and greaves were combined into one piece, I would probably say, "Huh. That's kind of lame." But then I would forget about it and get on with playing the game. I would not think about it for more than five seconds, tops.

So, if I had to choose yes/no, I would probably go with "no," but I'm not really too concerned about this.

(Sorry if this is going against the general tide...)

Essentially what I feel, while I've been pleased with many of the things I've heard about Skyrim, the fact that greaves to cuirasses are apparently merged is not something I see as a step in the right direction, and the fact that it reduces the level of customization we have over our character's equipment is why. I'd actually hoped we could get back seperate pauldrons and gauntlets. not have the armor slots available reduced further.

Hmm, I don't see the "I don't give a flying [censored] for all this BS about [censored] armor pieces in Skyrim" option.

OP, could you please add that to your poll? Thx.

4 or 5 pieces for a complete armor set is enough but less would be shi**y.

Nothings confirmed yet so dont worry plus ive seen screen shots with armor and no greaves, its the screen shot with the khajit (i cant provide a link as im on my phone). I dont think for a second there going to reduce the level of customization. Look when oblivion came out everyone made a fuss about pouldrons, then when shivering isles came out it had a shop called "the missing pouldron" i dont think for a second they will make same mistake twice. All people are doin is gettin worked up and speculatin (a little to much) from one screenshot. plus with the smithing option and the fact u can now forge weapons and armor do u reali think were going to have less customizable options. People need to relax the games in good hands. I voted no by the way.

True. But at risk of sounding rude I have no idea what the dev's were thinking when they made the choice to combine. I mean, you could say it might make it "less" difficult for new players but considering that maybe 80% of people playing the game have played a TES game previously. I would hope that the other 20% could work out how to put on a separate set of greaves and cuirass. Plus then I would be speculating.

I have also mentioned that there might be a new armour system they aren't talking about yet, which could be the answer. Maybe something to do with the new ore's and crafting, that essentially means you make your own variant of body armour.

I will add a "not bothered" to diminish bias though.

Thanks for the feedback.

You should add "It doesn't matter to me because there will most likely be more customization anyways!" option.

I hope you right. This poll is a "just in case", more of a precaution.

Maybe if they hurried up and released the Q&A people would be happier. IMO the hype bubble is more than ready to pop.

Another vote for this

Also this, bit of an exaggeration, but the point still stands:

"What you playing?"
"Skyrim"
"Looks awesome. What's your bloke doing?"
"I'm sneaking up on that sleeping shopkeeper. I want to damage this town's economy. I'm working for this one side in the civil war, and this town is in one of the other side's holds."
" Woah, awesome, try killing a shopkeeper in Dragon Age,"
" I know, this game is all about freedom to do what you want."
..............
" Woah , are you absorbing that dragon's soul? Man, I gotta get me this game."
............
" Love the water, those mountains rock, what a view. What, I can have a go? Thanks!"
" Yeah, I'm bored of it now. They combined cuirass and greaves, reducing the complexity and depth. I can't play a game where my options are limited like that."
.........
"What you playing now?"
"Sacred 2. More armour slots. Now that's what I call depth. An average gamer like you wouldn't get it."

Nicely said. I don't know where less could be better in this game, but definitely not in the armor slots department.

True, I am not saying I won't play the game (although I will most defiantly not be letting my friends have a go...maybe my partner if she's lucky. lol)

Plus when I think off all in ones It think of http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.killgerm.com/images/product_group/892_all_in_one-_heavy_duty_bee-_suit.png&imgrefurl=http://www.killgerm.com/product-group.php%3Fgroup%3D892&usg=__9s9dI7YWYhNwYlnsdSL9XhKg0ek=&h=500&w=500&sz=154&hl=en&start=35&zoom=1&tbnid=vsWTLg6yNqgU8M:&tbnh=141&tbnw=141&ei=VAALTvClIoeg-wamvKXhDA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dall%2Bin%2Bone%2Bclothes%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1149%26bih%3D629%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=424&vpy=121&dur=12237&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=134&ty=149&page=3&ndsp=19&ved=1t:429,r:8,s:35. Not so frightening when attacking a dragon.

P.s. I just picked the first Google image I found...the silly wizards hat was just a bonus.

True, I’m one of the four who voted yes because of the pointlessness

As I have said before, the reason for merging them if to give the designers more freedom in designing armor without having to verify that all tops and bottoms fits.
No I don’t agree with this as it give us less freedom.

And again I ask for fallout 3 style extra slots for future use and moding.
