Single Disc for Xbox 360 Version

Post » Wed Sep 14, 2011 1:55 pm

It just doesn't make sense that so many activities, armor, dialogue and the world good fit on a single disc. Can someone please provide insight on how would they go by doing this or if they will most likely have to cut stuff pre-release?

technology is constantly advancing so they are able to put more on to a disc in 2011 that they were able to put on a disk in 2006

file compression has advanced alot since making oblvion. also other methods in actually creating the game like merging greaves and cuirasses. theres many methods devs use today.

The way the game world is stored very efficiently with the plug-in system allows them to make very large worlds with little space. Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas had all large game worlds that took relatively little space. Skyrim will be no different.

The stuff that do take space are pretty much just the voices and the textures, which are compressed.

They won't, you'll have to swap discs when visiting certain areas of the map.

A little oil on the disc and a 12 pound hammer to knock the data into place.

PS3 uses Blu Ray, so everything will be able to fit easily without having to compress anything. For DVD's they'll just use compression techniques, which Todd said they've gotten much better at during this current hardware cycle.

Man ... you beat me to it. I'm still waiting for a developer to actually use all the space a BD has to offer.

Low resolution textures and low quality meshes. Probably poor, heavily compressed audio too.

Not true, don't spread misinformation :nono:

I very much doubt the game would fit a blu-ray disc if it was 100% uncompressed. I think you would be surprised to see how much space uncompressed graphics/audio use.

We don't know how many discs it will have, and the 360 has a new disc format now, so maybe the extra Gig or so will be enough.

BTW, the Skyrim box looked thicker than a usual 360 box in the new pics (one with the 3 boxes on the map)

They've already said it'll be on one disc

The only thing i regret for Ob in xbox 360 is that we didnt get the song "Auriel's Ascension", i recently discovered that and i was furious. i hope this time the entire soundtracks in the game.

I keep hearing that we have better compression things these days. But does it really counter the rate at which graphics and games in general are growing? ( I mean, 20GB games are not out of this world anymore..) i just wonder how big the game will be if they are forced to stay under a 7.5 GB limit.

I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure Square Enix said that they didn't have to compress anything in the PS3 version of FFXIII, but they did for the 360 version. If they were able to not have to compress any of the cutscenes, or audio in that game with the Blu Ray disc then maybe BGS won't have to with Skyrim?
