Single Player Story: How important is it to you?

Post » Mon Nov 01, 2010 6:14 pm

Obviously Zukov doesn't like Crysis. All he's after is the engine. He doesn't even like the Nanosuit.

Definitely noticed that part.

Personally to me Single player is the most important part of any game, it is always the first thing i play when i get a game, i never skip straight to the multiplayer. If a game has a single player I am always interested to find out what happens in it, ALWAYS. The only games that I never finished the single player is the modern warfare series mostly because it svcked too much to even care about.

the single player is useless.........

How could you say that? It all started there.

I agree. Singleplayer is always the first thing I play in a new game, then its on the multiplayer. Singleplayer is the base of the game, multiplayer is the longetivity and friend fun that goes on for months and years! Without Singleplayer I find the Multiplayer has much less emotion and is much more confusing, like MAG for the Playstation 3.

Me too, Single player also teaches you first, how to handle your self in the game and your weapons.

I'm amazed at how many people can just jump straight into the MP and ignore the SP completely.

For me, the MP is what makes a game fun. The SP is what makes it awesome :P

For a game like Crysis 2 the story line is absolutely vital, and 90% of all Cryteks effort should be put into the main campaign.
Crysis will never be able to compete in the multiplayer world that's dominated by Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield,... etc
The story and plot of the original Crysis is why anyone gives a damn about the game, it was unique, original, and the attention to detail was 2nd to none.
If Crytek puts too much effort into multiplayer they're going to ruin Crysis, plain and simple....
p.s. What happened to the island and the sphere, why are we suddenly in NY?... :-/

Just a note guys, we have the whole Frankfurt studio working on Crysis 2's SP and Crytek Nottingham working on the MP. We understand that we have to deliver on both sides, but showing you all that we have dedicated teams for each should ease your minds.

The SP should be longer than Crysis', right? It looks a little too linear at times in the demo TBH :/

I would say, multi-player is more important, BUT, a good SP story line is essential. If they want a well rounded game that sells a ton of copies, an excellent SP is necessary.

Very important.
I just couldn't get past the spawn camping, glitching and other nonsense in so many of the other online games.

SP is extremely important to me in a game. Multiplayer is great, but an amazing Singleplayer is what takes the game to a whole new level of awesomeness. The amazing singleplayer is why I love Crytek so much. :)

singleplayer means a lot to me to, alot of games now havae shorter singleplayer campaigns like 6 hours now those are still insanly fun, and can have good storylines, but if it was longer that would be awesome. I hope crysis 2 can have a longer sroty like 12 hours that would be awesome, if it was longer than that it would be even cooler :)

If there was a game that could make me emotional, that would be a great SP game. The game needs to have a story that can svck you into it, there are ways to cover up an decent story(gameplay and such), but a bad story will completely ruin SP. Good SP absolutely needs great music to go along with the story, great story that keeps you svcked in, memorable scenes, and great gameplay, all without glitches since those will totally ruin the experience. Visuals should only be added to enhance the experience.
Sorry to all the Crysis lovers out there, I didn't care for the story of Crysis/Warhead. The gameplay/visuals helped cover it up, but it only had a decent story.

MP is the key component to a longer lasting experience though. A great SP can last for several replays, but it will get repetitive after so long. Games like TF2 and L4D are great MP titles, because Valve spent so much time on the MP and made them different than all the other repeats out there. Having something different is the only way to keep a loyal user base, so the MP needs something special that keeps the community alive.
To answer your question, single player should be the best part of the game at the beginning(before it gets repetitive), but it isn't necessary for a good, replayable game(TF2 and l4d both have me playing them for hours on end and both don't have SP).

In my perffekt world, shooters would have memorable stories, but I'm satisfied as long as the game is flexible enough that I can play through it multiple times and experiment with the game play.

EDIT: Just for the record, I almost exclusively play SP, though C2's MP looks pretty alluring.

Indeed, i'm pretty jaded with online fps's overall, but if pulled off correctly crysis 2 could be amazing online just because of the nanosuit. It'll be awesome running circles around noobs and twitch happy dullards with tactics and wit.

I'm tired of the avalanche of generic MP shooters with a tacked on singleplayer.
Show them how it's done, Crytek! :)
