single suit armor

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 7:10 pm

"...clothing will be simplified, with outfits and armor sets coming as a single suit rather than separate parts."

notice how they still say "armor sets"..... why use the word sets if armor is only 1 piece? i'm going to go ahead and believe for now that this is referring to the menu system and how its all organized in there... and like other people have stated.... why put so much work into the crafting system if there is only 1 armor type? ? why bring back enchanting if your going to limit its practicality so much?

it just doesn't make sense.... none of it.... i'm going to go take a nap and hope the answer if found by the time i wake up.

this was something else new to me that was in the artical...

sword and torch- "Not only can torches light dark areas, but they can now be used for blocking, and bashing enemies will set them on fire."

i heard about torches being back, but i never suspected you could use them as a shield and to set things on fire

It's a neat feature. What I would like to know anyway is if this is only aplied when it using with other weapon or you can also single wield a torch.

If it was true, I wouldn't play Skyrim. But I know Bethesda isn't that stupid.

If this is true, is it possible people could mod it to work by splitting meshes and neatening them up a bit and adding additional slots to allow you to put them on with?

I wouldn't mind having a single armor as it would allow more armors into the game then what Beth could currently put in, the only major problem is that it would be a dramatic fundamental shift from what they have done in the past with the Armor and I'm pretty sure that the majority of hardcoe ES players would be outraged if this happened.

I never played armored anyway so who cares?!

Single suit armor is not unique to fallout, and has appeared before in TES games. It seems obvious to me that this is the direction that they are going in.

"Armor is comprised of multiple pieces" could mean almost anything. It could mean Hat + Armor. It could mean Armor + Rings. It could mean Hat + Armor + Rings. It could mean Pauldrons+ Greaves + Gloves + Boots + Cuirass + Hat + Rings.

Bethesda has a lot of good practical reasons for simplifying armor. The only real reason NOT to is "it will piss off the TES faithful." I think with the release of Oblivion, it became clear that Bethesda doesn't consider this to be a good reason not to change things.

I've looked at some pictures and seen some differences.

The dual wielding guy from the trailer is wearing the same gloves as the Khajiit from the Khajiit picture, but with different armor that doesn't even look anything like the one the Khajiit is wearing. The big difference is the shoulder guards... http://www.computerandvideogames.com/viewer.php?mode=article&id=247638http://www.computerandvideogames.com/viewer.php?mode=article&id=247642 http://img.neoseeker.com/v_image.php?type=news&articleid=16254&image=1

Also seen fur/iron boots that looked the same style as the aforementioned gloves being worn without the gloves on other pictures...

We've been through this many times before. No one will be satisfied until they play the game and are the armor separated themselves.

There seems to be some sort of ambiguity in the information we've obtained.

Here's a quote from a recent interview (article posted on June 3rd, 2011) with Bruce Nesmith (Lead Designer):

One of the hallmarks of our games is an abundance of loot. We have thousands of different weapons and pieces of armor, not to mention potions, scrolls, alchemy ingredients, jewelry, gems, etc. Also many of the unique daedric artifacts are making a return. So we’re giving the player the best of both worlds.

I don't know, what are the chances that we might get more information from E3?

There is still a chance some sets of clothing or guild uniforms could be single.

@battt We'll be seeing a demo at E3, so that could ease peoples minds.

This doesn't confirm separate pieces. This could simply be because they said they are having race specific armor. So maybe each race has its own version of say, leather armor, and that is why some pieces look the same while others don't.

i think the most likely thing will be more armors like DB in oblivion, but we'll still have pieces.

Tongue in cheek my friend. Even though I tend to stay away from armor moving toward full suits would be a ridiculously bad decision, imo.

But, it sounds on par with every other cut and "streamlining" effort I have heard about so far. So I am not so sure this is all just a misunderstanding.

Call me a pessimist but I wouldn't call this an official conformation. I've noticed quite a bit of ambiguous information and with most of us, forum-goers, misconstruing the information we've been provided with, I would rather wait for Bethesda's final word on this.
