SinglePlayer?

Post » Sat Nov 27, 2010 5:38 pm

Hi!

I am primarily interested in games which have a strong singleplayer experience, since I have neither heard nor seen anithing about singleplayer, I would like to know on a scale of 0-100 how much is this game oriented towards the Co-op/multiplayer or singleplayer experience. If it does have a singleplayer mode does this mode have some kind of a story/plot or is it just levels where you assemble a team and attack or defend(something simillar to counter strike)??

Thank You.

They're all the same.

In theory it's 100% each. But practically the singleplayer is more similar to a multiplayer-experience.

Singleplayer, Co-op and Multiplayer have the same plot.
They are all story driven.

As said above, they are the same. Only in singleplayer you play with/against bots while on multiplayer you play with people. Story, maps, objectives are the same. IMO this should keep the SP interesting, as the MP (being the same) also has to stay interesting for people to play.

Does raise one question that confuses me. It has always been said that single-player nets you experience and unlocks just like multi-player does right? Is it the same amounts of experience offline or lessened? So can I can play single-player for awhile and build up the characters I'm going to be using for multi-player, at exactly the same speed as if i was in multi-player?

I believe so as well. I heard some talk that if you lower the bots difficulty it nets less experience, like hard bots = players experience wise. This may only be a rumour though.

They've confirmed 100% that single player progress will carry through to multiplayer and vice versa.

I'd compare the single player / co-op to borderlands where your online/ offline exp is combined

I hope they weighted all the experience system(s) so that multiplayer will never provide less experience then any bot mode. (On average)

yeah exp is the same for both. there was an interview about it and the dev said origianolly mp would get more exp but they thought it was un-fair to those that play single player only so they changed it so it would be the same.

There also mentioned in a video interview that if you're playing single player while being online some of the bots may be replaced with other players online, not too sure if it'll work out like that, but thats what they said.

If you choose to allow that, players will drop in and replace bots, yes.

I can't help but see a problem with this. Wouldn't this create the possibility for a talented multiplayer character to just dominate and get an incredible amount of experience in single player?

Traditionally people who stick to the single player portion of any games are much worse then their multiplayer counter-persona's, and also, the game AI is hardly going to be as talented as the average multiplayer character.

I can only see single player as being the experience "cheat" mode for this game. I also see this as upsetting to people, like myself, who look for a challenge online, and subsequently will be doing so much more, for the same amount of experience.

A person who doesn't play mutliplayer isn't as good at mutliplayer as someone who does only play mutliplayer.
And it's no "cheating" if you "boost" your character in singleplayer, because then you have to face players who have maxed out characters as well.

Remember, there are five level-brackets in which you play. "Boosting" to level 20 will put you in the fifth bracket (Rank 5) and you'll only face level 17-20 players.

the game AI is hardly going to be as talented as the average multiplayer character.

We'll have to wait and see this one - previews so far imply that the AI is good enough that picking bots from players is difficult.

EDIT: Also, if you're getting the same amount of experience for the same amount of time, online or off, how are you getting cheated?

Ok, I think we're missing my main point.

Lets say, if you play a level on Easy difficulty, with respect to Hard difficulty. The levels, characters, and objectives are the same, so the experience will be the same as well right? This is not fair to someone who plays the harder difficulty.

Hope this clarifies my original post!

Why not? The people who play on hard will likely become better at the game and levels don't mean a whole lot in brink

I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere that you get less XP when you're up against easier bots, and closer to multiplayer XP up against smarter ones.

So you honestly and genuinely believe, that harder work should not be rewarded? I'm sorry man, but if you don't understand why overall this is not considered "fair", you must be a very unique person.

No i agree that harder work should be rewarded, I'm basically just saying that I don't think it's that big of a deal if it isn't in this game. That being said I'm fairly certain that you do get less xp for playing against easy bots

dont forget most unlocks are unlocked by completeing the challenges which puts players up against bots, so thats the main way for showing skill and rewarding the more exp players. also the bots are suppose to be more advance than a typical shooter anyway so seems fair to me

Speculation and hope does not equate to reality. We cannot dismiss an issue based on what we imagine might be the case. It's not a valid argument.
