Is Sithis Real?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 3:23 am

"Sithis" is, I believe, one of the names of Padomay, isn't it? And I think the book in the Falkreath Sanctuary basically describes Sithis as identical to Padomay in the other lore, only it describes Anu as "nothing" which the elves are stupid enough to give a name to.

Given how Anu and Padomay in the other texts (save the Children's Annuad) aren't portrayed as being personal entities capable of doing something like impregnating a woman in Bravil and telling her to kill the kids that came out (or at least not anymore), there is perhaps good reason to take it with a grain of salt. Then again, given their insistence that they don't serve a Daedra like Mephala, it begs the question of how what the Dark Mother is exactly and what gives her her power.

What do you mean by limit? I've seen people on the forums use the term before, but I'm not sure what it means.

It's all in The http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Monomyth, under the Altmeri heading

Thus was born Sithis, who was the sum of all the limitations Anuiel would utilize to ponder himself.
All the limitations of Anuiel, but the term limit is not used. By the logic of that statement, Sithis is a sum and not a limit. Please someone describe what how Sithis is a limit.

The Deepscorn Hollow representation of Sithis is so close to that of Shor; the only thing it's missing is a http://mostodd.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/p32-viking-helmet.gif and http://www.beer100.com/images/beermug.jpg.

This is what i'm trying to tell.

For what the DB states, it's like if he's limited. Like Eternity from Marvel Universe.

He IS real. There are references where he actually "speaks" to his prayers.

And anyway sociopatic assassins don't need a god, they have plenty of other voices inside them.

And how do they know they're not being trolled by Melphala, who does do these things?

No idea, I haven't read much about the lore regarding sithis. But that leads me to a question: How do you communicate with them? They can't listen to all mortal at the the same time, can they? Or do their realms provide time manipualtion, so he can listen to every single conversation?

Not everybody talks to them at the same time, and they don't care to listen to everyone either. But I'd imagine that they can talk to as many people as they would want... They are gods after all.

Sithis doesn't exist because he is a being of a void, non-existence personified. He is only semi-existent.

[Disclaimer, ignore if you want to read anything vaguely sensible]

Does nothing exist? Is none something. Of course, as ideas in our heads. And before Mundus, wasn't the existance of the Et'Ada just ideas, personalities that came into being as varying shades between the idea of nothing, and the idea of something/everything.

What did Lorkhan do? He concieved reality, which in a philosophical BS kind of way is changing the game from an infinite non existence of pure ideas, to a limited and confined actuality. In a way the world exists because it is a big bunch of limits (hence the Dwemer and Altmer desire to escape). Perhaps an echo of the primal idea that Everything has a limit, and beyond that limit is Nothing (note the capitals). Beyond our own universe, at the edge of our space-time, is nothing. Does it exist? well I just mentioned it so yes, but it is only worth mentioning because it's existence requires a limit to our reality.

Sithis is real, but certainly isn't interested in anything, let alone the beliefs of the guys with the dark eyeshadow.

Awesome, so Mundus runs on 8-bit. Explains the size of those giant pixel-soulgems

My theory?

He's the destructive aspect of Akatosh.

Therefore, he is Alduin.

It makes a DB Dragonborn all the more ironic.

NUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! HE'S SHOR/SHEZARR INCARNATE! After all, every time a dragonborn comes to heavily interviene, it's a shezzarine/shorene.

Yurp. 0 to Anuiel's 1.

I've always seen it more as -1 to 1.

Thus, to turn Jyggalag into his opposite, they tossed him through the "Sithis shaped hole" ie, multiplied him by -1.

It's called zero-summing because you add everything together are realize the sum is zero, nothing exists, and thus neither do you. Poof.

Yeah Tosh Raka description as well from Ka-Po-tun looks like alot from the Khajiit description. Anyway what's the possibility of the Ka-po-tun in fact be a very powerfull Khajiit empire? Since the Akakavirian forests remids us of Elsywhere.

I hope the Ka Po Tun are cool versions of Kahjiit. The Kahjiit have their own variations based on the moons, I hope the Ka Po Tun have Panthers, Tigers, Sabre-toothed cats, and are bigger buffer, beastlier versions of kahjiit.

Some fan prose as a way of explanation.

To Be or Not To Be. I Am because You Are Not. I can not doubt in my own Existence because I have seen the face of Non Existence and it was Not Me. And yet, like a Mirror reflecting what was there all along Not Me becomes Me become Not Me as we touch. I Am the Soul and you are the Keeper. Such is the nature of Anuiel and Sithis.

But that ruins the binary joke.

'Sides, zero-sum is not literally "the sum is zero", rather that after all is said and done, there was no gain, no Amaranth. It's cause after you added everything together it was all square 'cept you couldn't quite get over that last logical hurdle of you-yourself and poof goes the catechumen.

Definition of ZERO-SUM

: of, relating to, or being a situation (as a game or relationship) in which a gain for one side entails a corresponding loss for the other side

Anueil is Stasis. Sithis is Change. When Stasis scores a point Change loses a point and vice versa, thereby keeping the sum of the two forever the same. The sum of Anueil and Sithis is Perfect Balance.

This kind of reminds me of the Yin/Yang concept.

Well...change is real, and Sithis is Padomay and Padomay is change. But Sithis is also nothing at all. I think nothing at all is real.
