As many others have said, I'd be fine with an (optional) romance or two, so long as they were well written with believable characterisation. Actual (fantasy) six as part of them is generally unnecessary and often bizarre and implausible. Usually the romance part of games simply doesn't have enough effort put into it, nor enough writing talent, to make it a satisfactory part of the story. Still, Dragon Age and Mass Effect showed that it can be reasonably amusing (especially if the dialogue is well acted) and inoffensive.
If any romance were
very well written, and made sense in the context of the story, then I'd be all for it.
The Witcher's romances were well written into the storyline, though they were fairly creepy (fitting in with Geralt's creepy personality). A good example of a better but misjudged effort being (arguably) worse than the usual disposable romance-lite of American RPGs. The 'gotta bed 'em all' card collecting game was cringe-worthy dross of the lowest order.
Bethesda have showed no interest in doing romance (unless you count Ahnassi in Morrowind), and I suspect they couldn't do it properly if they tried. It'd be nice to be surprised, though
