sixual Diversity in Skyrim?

Post » Tue Nov 09, 2010 9:28 am

And again with medieval Europe parallels... What makes people think that TES world and medieval Europe have anything in common aside form imperial architecture?

TES - has big cities. Medieval Europe - castles, no cities, the start of urban live marks the end of medieval time period (historical definition, not my).
TES - polytheistic, Medieval Europe - monotheistic.
TES - empire ruled by the emperor and council, strictly unified. Medieval Europe - feudal, that says it all.
TES - has magic, and a which is an adequate profession. Medieval Europe - inquisition and superstitions.
TES - army and Imperial legion, Medieval Europe - knights and banner man, again says ti all - vassal of my vassal is not my vassal I believe the saying was.

Should I go on? As you can see the socially nothing is even remotely similar, so no reason that there should be any persecution for homosixuality because medieval Europe had them..

Clearly you aren't familiar with medieval Italy and Byzantium (AKA Eastern Roman Empire)

Fallout: New Vegas did a great job with homosixual NPCs.
I only played through the main quest once, but that game had gay characters?

Ugh. Can we drop these medievel parallels? The game does not take place in medievel Europe. It takes place in a fantasy land on a fantasy continent on a fantasy planet with fantasy gods and demons and creatures with a different, fantasy culture.

Wasn't a main complaint of OB that the culture wasn't unique? Why do we even bring in historical cultural norms from OUR world?

Forget how gay behavior was accepted in the past in the real world, it has no bearing on Tamriel. Thanks.

Stuff like this should be tastefully done, and if Beth didn't get any new writers, this shouldn't really happen.

Agreed, I play games to ESCAPE, I don't want to have to put up with arguments aout sixuality, if they are included, I don't want homophobic NPC's

That discussion would require TES having any kind of relationships between NPCs or romance plot lines to begin with. Right now even a mention of NPC having a family is few and far between. There is NO ROMANCE in TSE, and of course no six, not even implied, and even new found children would probably spawn in prison just like advlts :D So whats the point trying to discus sixual diversity when there is not even a hint of sixuality present to begin with? Moot point.
Thou for the record I'm all for diversity, would love it, if we actually had any relationships in game...

What about that thieves guild fence in...Bravil I think.

I've never used a female toon, is she still flirtatious if you are a female?

Having GLBT characters does not equate to orgies in the street, being propositioned by an NPC, or "having" to have a same (or opposite) six relationship with anyone in-game. It simply means that not every character is straight.

I don't really get the "plausibility" argument. It's a fantasy setting.

We can: shoot fireballs, talk with dragons, play a sentient feline, wield a sword, jump fifty feet into the air, walk among dimensions, slay giant rats, bash ogres on the head, run away from liches, and walk around carrying five hundred pounds of equipment without breaking a sweat.

But same-six couples in the background? That's crazy talk!

The head of Hlaalu asks you to kiss him and take off your clothes for him, whatever your gender (or species)

Vivec had a harem of Buoyant Armigers of both genders, and Vilenas son mentions his friends beauty (althogh I think he was just supposed to represent the typical 'troubled teen', he wasn't 'gay' as such, it is more likely he didn;t have an explicit preference), and to the guy that said the adoring fan was mocking homosixualitty, I highly doubt he was 'gay'

Oh, okay. It's just after you said he was gay you said that none of them displayovertly homosixual behaviour.

Fallout: New Vegas did a great job with homosixual NPCs. But TES being based on the Dark Age era, and Medieval societies, homosixualism and such would be punishable to death.

So it's unlikely that you would see NPCs expressing this, and even if they were homosixuals, they would be scared of telling someone, because they could tell the law, and consequently those would be executed.

Agreed, this would be the only way for Skyrim to pull this off. New Vegas did it really good, but somehow I felt that I was bumping into gay people wherever I went. I doubt that 10% (one of every ten) of the worlds population are gay. However, if that were true, I would not implent that percentage value in Skyrim. It would be too much and overdone.

Joan of Arc was burned for being a witch, not for being a female warrior. Just saying.

You're right, of course, and I was thinking to myself as I submitted the comment that it wasn't really a very good example. But the point of there not being a lot of female warriors in medieval times still stands. And it's true of modern times as well. Real female warriors have only begun to become common in the last few decades and the idea is still controversial.

No thanks. The romantic content should be kept to an absolute minimum. Or better, gone altogether. A few easter eggs and jokes here and there are ok (like crassius curio or the lusty argonian maiden) but anything more will just swing TES into Bioware territory, which is definitely not a good thing nowadays.

I also can't take a dump. So what? I can't believe society has devolved to the point where people are shamelessly begging for sixual/romantic content in adventure games.

I don't think having tax returns would improve Skyrim very much

I'd be ashamed to ask for elder scrolls to contain an option to have six with pixels, straight or gay

To OP: "Liberal" or "Conservative" societies do not determine whether homosixuals exist or not, the way you worded it made it seem like that was being implied, and one statistic can't possibly be applied to everybody on the planet.

Homosixuality has existed throughout human history, including the dark ages and is not some current fad. some societies can be more open or repressed about it, but it still exists in some way or another. Homosixuality is attraction to the same six, nothing more, and to implement that into the game is to bring up romance and sixuality. So it would have to be very direct in terms of flirting, talking about sixuality in conversation etc. If not then they would have to use a stereotype of how homosixuals act and talk, and that is wrong, even though homosixuals have contributed toward building up those stereotypes.

No-one determines if it 'exists' only if it is acknowledged

Not the modern-day variant of it, but I'd be glad if there were taxes.

As for the actual topic; It's true that there are too few families in TES games. People living alone should be the exception. Now, with the possibility of children in the game, there might be more families as well, and with heterosixual relationships being featured, I'd support a few homosixual ones as well, as long as it's done well (although the odd Crassius Curio'd also be fun :P).

The book was a ruminant of Morrowind, not something Oblivion team did on their own, the painting quest had some sort of partner only because you had to have someone give you the quest. Non of the people around you had any connection to each other if it was not required for a quest, which is the point - for a game to have living world and issues of diversity people have to be engaged in some kind of relationships regardless of weather you need a quest. And that is what misses. I mean they talk about crabs of all things, but never a mention of having to go home soon since his/her wife/husband is waiting! No couples ruing inns or shops together, no npcs sneaking off to see each other, the whole plain of live is missing.

What about the woodelf wife in Anvil with a Nord husband who was a captain of a ship.

Theres letter you can find near her jewelery box or in their room and you find a note where she is having an affair with the woodelf smith apprentice near the stables.

Thats a relationship right there not tied to any quests.

Also someone pointed out that the darkelf woman and man in chorral lived in the same house which pointed to something.

That's exactly what I said. Anyway, I agree with what Daybreak said, quoted on page 7.

^Mumatil, yeah Romance and relationships were definitely used in Oblivion, maybe not to a realistic extent. The game is not about those things, so a huge emphasis is probably not needed.

Yes they should. It's pathetic to beg for six in a video game (and in general). Get a real girlfriend/boyfriend or play a japanese dating sim and keep this crap out of my action/adventure rpgs.
