Size of Brink World?

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 6:53 am

So almost everything I've seen from Brink seems pretty exciting, but when watching sneak peaks of gameplay (as well as visiting the official website) I haven't seen much in terms of the size of explorable area besides the two main areas. I'm more familiar with games such as Call of Duty that have actual maps, and Borderlands that has large explorable areas. Does anyone have an idea of how Brink will integrate this? Right now this is my main concern since it would likely get old if the game was solely based on these two areas (unless they were very large).

I think you have a misunderstanding of the playable areas of brink, it uses several maps, such as halo or call of duty, it is not an open world with large explorable areas like borderlands is.

what are you talking about?

there is only one way to play Brink - class-based, team objective. Regardless if you play the Campaign or play Freeplay, this never changes. There's always 2 teams - 1 attacking, 1 defending

No it isn't like Borderlands. Borderlands has gigantic open areas linked by teleporters. BRINK has smallish, arena-style maps that aren't linked by anything. And good luck walking around because there will be highly competent AI trying to gun you down whether you're playing multi-player, challenge mode, or single-player.

@jakovasaur: Don't worry about the game getting old. The developers have stated many times that the maps are full of "deep context" items, things that help reveal the story of BRINK that are just lying around the battlefield. Between looking for these secrets, maxing out your characters, creating your dream soldier, and mastering the S.M.A.R.T. system there will be plenty for you to do.

No, you're wrong.

Multiplayer = Campaign. There is no difference between them. That's what they meant by switching seamlessly.

As for other modes, they have "challenges" which are essentially MP/Campaign style gameplay with additional requirements, and they must be done single-player.

It has separate maps, though to the best of my knowledge we'll probably cover most of if not all of the Ark with the campaign, so you can piece it together if you really want to.

That link doesn't really help with his questions about being able to explore, or how big the maps will be. If you guys are going to link stuff then give some explanation instead of throwing everybody in at the deep end and expecting them to learn by trial and error. Was that too harsh?

The "two areas" are just the two that have been announced. SD wants to keep some stuff quiet.

There's apparently 8 maps at launch, and we don't know their sizes.

^^ A statement or two like this in addition to a link would be MUCH better than the link itself.

OK. So from what I understand, there will be around 8 maps at release. Although there isn't a "free roam" mode, you can simply go to single player or co op and turn off the enemy bots. I can't actually confirm this, its just what Ive heard.

I seriously start to believe you're in the wrong forum.

"Dis game is gunna be awshum!"
- "Ya, well, you know ... you're not actually talking about this game."

There's apparently 8 maps at launch, and we don't know their sizes.

Container City is about three times the size of a small-to-medium Counterstrike Map.

You can only explore the map you are currently in i.e. Container City, the Airport, and the Shipyard that we know of so far.

Yes, the ARK was intended for 5.000 people. This is a small town in my country. Remember that it's entirely environment friendly and on top of that self-sustainable. It's now being used by 50.000 people, which is 10 times the amount. This puts a lot of stress on the ARK. (Compare it to a tire of a car. Do you know what happens if you increase the pressure inside to 10x the intended amount?)

The maps will be pretty big, but consist of "stages". The action is always focused in a small area, near the next objective.
