Re-sizing models with NifSkope

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 5:21 am

Hi.

Since my last thread got hi-jacked I'm starting a new one.
I want to re-size a .nif model using nifskope.

1. I open nifskope.
2. I load the .nif file. I recieve the following "block list":

0 BSFadeNode-1 BSInvMarker-2 BSXFlags-5 bhkCollisionObject--4 bhkRigidBody--0 BSFadeNode-6 NiTriShape--7 NiTriShapeData--8 BSLightingShaderProperty---9 BSShaderTextureSet

Both "BSFadeNode" and "NiTriShape" each have an entry called "scale" with the value "1.0000". -Which is interpret as "100%"

If I change BSFadeNode's scale to 0.4 (40% of it's original size) - the model in the model viewer window changes in size. If I save it and use it in CK then look at the model in Skyrim it is still 100% (as if my change wasn't saved.)

If I change NiTriShape's scale value to 0.4 the model actually changes, but it also moves away from the center for some strange reason. (The model seems to be stuck to a yellow line in the model viewer.) -Is there a way to bring the model back to the center again? Origon, or whatever it's called - where all the lines (red, green and blue lines) cross each other.

you can adjust the X, Y, Z values under Translation to bring the model closer to the center point

A couple things --- After resizing the bfsfadenode - right click and select Transform Apply (this applies the changes you made ) - Now go to the Nitrishape and also right Click and select Transform Apply (this also updates the change you made as applying it to the top node will then make the change to each sub shape in the tree which then also should be updated (notice after doing this the Scale is again 1.0 and the XYZ coords are all 0 ! - but the item is the smaller size since it was changed - sometimes if these transforms are not applied they will not update properly when used in game so best to always apply the transforms after making adjustments ) Now try it again in the CK and it should work correctly (and the offset that is currently showing as the yellow line you mention in the render window will be placed back at 0,0,0 like you wanted )

If you have any problems with it PM me and I'll send you a working resized NIF (just tested in the CK to make sure what I was typing would work correctly so have one made already !)

The item is located at the Origin correctly it just has unapplied transforms listed in the x,y,z coords - applying the transforms will fix it - no need to adjust the item position in this case !
