Skill checks

So, I like to have some idea of what i am doing/getting into when playing games. While I have done a good job of not spoiling the story for myself, I did flip through my Prima player's guide book looking for what kinds of checks the game looks for regarding Intelligence, Luck, Charisma, Speech, Science, etc. I want to know what the "range" of skills the game is looking for so I don't over-level my character's skill points.

Spoiler

With few exceptions, the vast majority of the game is looking for a speech skill, or threshold, of 50. There are some 65 challenges, but most you see in the book at exactly 50. A number of under 50 as well. I have only seen 3 examples of when the games checks your Charisma attribute, and it is an 8 check each time.

Intelligence, like luck are only checked at 7 in all the examples I have read.

Science makes a check of 75 or 80 most of the time. Like speech at 50, most challenges in the book ask for 80 or just under. I get the impression that while lock pick is nice, science should be considered as a possible 3rd tag skill to help get you closer to that HIGH threshold.

These, of course, are alternative ways to solve quests. You don't have to use either of these skills to continue the main quest, but they help and give you alternatives.

I just hope that information helps people when building new characters, if they so choose.
