Skill level

I think that the Force Lock option could be put to far better use. For example, when you become an Aprentice (rank 25) you should be able to instantly force Novice (Rank 0 to 25) Locks instantly because of your skill. At Journeyman you can force Aprentice Locks and below and so on and so Forth. In this way, Thieves will actually have a reason and incentive to become a Master of the craft, and at the same time, there will always be locks that will challange them, (In the System I described, at Master Rank, you would only beable to Insta Open Expert Rank and Below).

The only people whining about the rules of a game I've met so far were little children. Just saying.

Can't you just play "by the rules"?

NO WAY, why am I not allowed to wager any further money during the current poker hand if I fold?! That's boring!

because the rules were created arbitrarily and feel horribly out of place given everything else in the game? your anology is [censored] and you know it.

if you're going to have a minigame and that minigame is going to be identical regardless of your skill level then there's no reason to have a hard cap on it dictated by your current skill level. the minigame should adapt to your skill level rather than just lock you out and say THIS IS TOO SKILLED FOR YOU BECAUSE THIS IS A ROLE-PLAYING GAME AND WE NEED TO ENFORCE TABLETOP RULES BECAUSE OTHERWISE CODEX WILL LAUGH AT US SOME MORE.

it's more comparable to joining a basketball team and not being able to shoot for three-pointers because you haven't been on the team for at least six months, even though there's a good chance you'll make it.

Well, that is why the devs include cheats

Well, the rules are not out of place in-universe.

Limitations are also awesome, you have to actually work to be able to do something.

We're simply speculating over possible improvements to the system, making it more dynamic rather than a strict number-check. Rules would still be in place, it would just be a more realistic approach.

this...doesn't make sense at all. if this were the case then married couples in Fallout would be rolling die while arguing to see who was right.

i agree entirely, but a system built almost entirely around player skill separated nonsensically by tiers dictated by character skill is the worst possible system.

making it entirely based on player skill is one way to do it, and making it entirely based on character skill is another way to do it, but the ultimate ideal in a game like this would be to blend the two equally - which is what this thread is discussing.
