5 Skill Slots Discussions (Merged)

If this were true it would be a trivial task for me to map my controller buttons using third party software. Unfortunately this is not the case. There are 5 keys for the combat bar plus one each for synergy and Ultimate. Then there is dodge, sprint, sneak, jump, interact, loot, etc. In fact mapping a controller for just the combat keys needs careful consideration. So, no, the UI was not designed with a console in mind.

I do!

And you cant equalize dodging, blocking or a basic light/heavy attack with a full blown actionbar abillity.

Light/heavy attacks ar ESOs version of WoW's auto attacks...and theire not fun.

Funny, there are games that do equate these thing to full action slot abilities. For example, TERA and SWTOR both have a basic auto attack style ability taking up a skill slot. TERA has blocks and dodges that take up skill slots. Not every game is WoW.

If you dont like the system play another game, its so easy  I like it, many like it, just because 0.0001% of the player base here wants it different

seeing this thread and go "HELL WE NEED MORE SKILLSLOTS"

But as we see ZOS is making the Game THEY WANT TO DO and not what a few Player want...

Stop saying ESO needs that Change to Combat etc, Combat is done for ESO there will never be a change that you want to see to get another Ability Slap Game (ASG)

You have 2 x 5 skills + 2x 1 Ultimate + Attack +Heavy Attack + Dodge + Block...

For Games you have "more" Skills there just attacks to spam a "Light Attack" so a "Filler" now you dont have the Filler on youre skill bar, just push youre mouse button..

Same for the other things ...

So: If you dont like how the Combat is designed in ESO, play a different game

And that have nothing to do with "Console" the Game was designed for that Combat from the Early beginning, the Idea for ESO to go on console are relatively new

its just easy to implement, because ZOS knows that the new Consoles are a "PC"

For me: going to use 2 destro staffs on nightblade, going for a AE skillbar and a singeltarget bar... and that are if you believe it or not 12 Skills! +Mouse attack

In WoW i was using 3-5(6) during Single Target on a Raidboss and other 1-3 maybe 4 (depends on Class) for AE and Trash bombing

think about how many skills you really used during a fight

for me its [censored] to have 30 different funny colored icons on 3 skill bars and using just 3-4 of them on a different fight

If you watched PTS streams (Phazius,Erlexx, etc.) you clearely see that they adjust the skills for some bosses and situations

Blocking, interrupting or dodging a big attack can have a much bigger impact on a fight than using a slotted skill. You can't attack if you are dead.

Light and heavy attacks are nothing like WoW's auto attacks. Auto attacks fire automatically and turn off automatically, though you can also manually toggle them on/off. There is little to no thought on the part of the player. Light and heavy attacks actually have a use in ESO. Use light attacks to give your magicka/stamina time to regen and heavy attacks to knockdown a disoriented target.

If you don't find them fun, I have to wonder if you've used them to their potential. If you have, then maybe this game just isn't for you, because they are an important part of combat.

There is a slight unbalance created by the lack of slots, although mostly for me it is just a preference that I want a few more slots to make a full build with some more utility. Think of the effect of 5 slots and weapon swapping for casters vs. melee/melee support, and then watch this video. At 41:00 the group of casters tries to help the Nightblade guildie with a suggestion. This suggestion is what players like me and probably others will be faced with to compete. Change the way you want to play. Note: all players are part of an elite guild on the PTS that is very selective of members so skill, player ability, and NB build is not an issue. Watch it and see for yourself.

A few more slots isn't going to fix that. The issue was aoe dps versus single target. Thus a choice to make. A highly competitive guild such as ER will always have builds that are the best that won't always conform to what people want to play. That is the very nature of games these days. Even WoW, a game with tons of skills, the classes with more or better AoE skills pull higher dps on pack pulls. The issue has nothing to do with number of builds but simply on what the person wanted to build.

Yes because theyre Theorycrafting and testing 200 different options with everything thats why those Guilds are named "Top Guilds"

AE is bad for a meele NB, but singletarget is mostly good, if you cant do AE good with youre first Weapon he should just use a few Siphoning skills and a destrostaff for AE pwnage

And Crystal Shard is OP atm btw ^^

Its the done thing these days and forces you to think about your skills instead of having 29,398,791,287,491,287,912,847,192,846,918,964,981,624 skill bars and hot keys everywhere on screen and a tiny 10mm square to view the game.

Thats not it at all. They already confirmed that it was a single target build, earlier in the vid. The issue was that there was no room for other AOE skills in the hotbar, so he had to switch or "weapon swap" to add them in. If you dont have 4 one handers that match damage, swapping wont improve your DPS either, no matter what AOE is slotted. Light/Heavy attacks are affected and such, so there is a spacing issue. The casters can do that since the weapon doesnt contribute to class skills and spells as much as it does for melee, unless your a staff build like I mentioned earlier. Endgame, starting out, no dual wielder will have 4 weaps of Veteran level, maybe one good weapon or two, it just favors the casters a bit from what I can see. It wasn't about his build choice or that "He was testing stuff" because they had enough skills unlocked each to fill 3 bars with spells. It just didn't work for the melee dualwielder. Listen to it. After they suggest it there is a long pause and they just finish the run. I love the game anyway, and so first of all, I will play whatever the [censored] I want, period. Nobody tells me what game I am going to play. Secondly, it is a matter of preference, but can anyone honestly say they would rather have less of anything they like and mean it? Everyone would benefit from more for everyone's builds and I have yet to hear a rational reason why it wouldn't work in the game mechanics that currently exist. Sure there are excuses to just live with it, but I don't need one, the game is great, I will play it regarless, its just an opinion thread.

Seems like it is working exactly as intended. Not all builds are going to be equal and naturally those that adapt to the system in the game will do better. A lot of things in game design are done with specific purpose and not done simply to make something easier (that is what adding more slots would do, it wouldn't really make builds more diverse or get rid of the idea you need to be able to adapt). Easier is not always better.

With weapon swap you have:

2x Quick Slots
10x Skill Slots

2x Ultimate Slots

Seems like plenty to me.

Right you are. I agree wholeheartedly. But people are still getting 10 slots, its just not feasable for melee builds like it is for class based (guild, world, etc) who benefit the most from the UI as is. Its not harder for just my build, its any melee, weapon build to pull off compared to the caster types I just mentioned. I mean on that vid the healer out DPSed the guy by 3% and he was keeping the party up too. That is not a matter of the Nightblade wasn't built for the multi target. They suggested he do the same as them, fill up the second bar with a whirlwind build. Why not just replace something with whirlwind on his main bar. I think it was because there was no room on his hotbar is you ask me. A build is a build and you have to optimize but you can't say that it was because the Nightblade chose not to use the superior skill because he didn't want to. He was asking how his DPS was in the video, he was optimizing, it just was missing something added with the fact that he has to be in melee range to boot. Maybe he needed more blades so his swap was effective. It is a big difference to get 4 weaps compared to 2 staffs for the caster, one of which will never be used for light/heavy attacks. You probably want 5, but I personally want at least 1 or 2 more slots. It is not about easy or hard. It is about fun. I want to use all the spells I like and I feel like I would abandon tech or support skills so I can attack better. Why not have more. The argument is the benefit of extra UI outweighs ligitamate cons in my opinion. It would make the builds more complex, so your wrong on that. And I am not trying to make anything easier for myself, so your wrong about me. It is a preference and honestly, I would have an easy time either way. But at level 50 I promise you, my preference, will be your concern as well. See you here in 6 months. Take it easy.

It would be just as easy with a two handed weapon. Again, he made a choice, not all builds are equal, his build was not performing like the others. The entire idea behind the weapon swap is switching your abilities allowing a bit more flexibility, but at the cost of needing something to switch to. I want what the game was meant to have. I want the developers to stick by their design instead of constantly giving in to the player base eroding their design.
