Skooma Addicts?

Post » Sat Nov 23, 2013 12:42 pm

Hi Guys. Do you think negative withdrawl effects of Skooma should be curable by a god alter?

First, do you think it is contextually right?

Second, do you think it is more or less fun for gameplay?

Best,

I don't think any negative effect should be removed by an altar. I think this is one of the worst cop-outs to the game. It makes Cure Disease completely pointless.

I half-agree with ME.

I think *SOME* things should be cured by an Alter, under the right conditions; like maybe have two levels of disease, with one being cured by an Altar/pot, the other requiring a Cure Disease Spell. If memory serves, didn't Oblivion need a "More Fame than Infamy" for the Altars to bless you?

I would say Skooma Addiction would be in the second-tier, maybe with the justification that "The Gods feel you brought it on yourself" or something

I made a mod once about skooma addiction. I had decided that there would be one bottle of cure for it that would be lost somewhere in the wilderness. Anyway, addictions cannot be cured at shrines, I tried it then.

To make it interesting gameplay wise, you'll have to put up effects that really cripple the player once he is addicted. Unfortunately, my experience proved that it was almost impossible because of the way level up is made in the game. Well, it's possible at the beginning, when your character is still weak, after a while the effects will be unnoticed. I suppose you could level them, but it would make the mod a bit complicated to put up.

I lost the mod when I swapped computers and I don't think I'll make it again.

Skooma doesn't have any negative effects in Skyrim (weird eh). I wish they were able to really add in some sort of addiction system...I'm sure there's some out there in mods.

Skooma had addictive effects in Morrowind which was probably good but there might be some reasons behind skooma no longer having such effects in Oblivion and Skyrim. Like there are reasons to the fact that children cannot be killed in the game. Stuff like that (drug addiction, child abuse) are tricky to handle nowadays.

Not really. GTA puts drug addiction on a silver platter and sells like hotcakes. Skyrim has Skooma only bring positive effects. That is promoting drug use if anything. I didn't see anyone up in arms about that at all.

Skooma having positive effects no longer makes it a drug... Drugs have negative effects, by definition. Oh, I forgot, skooma in Skyrim is supposed to be "watered".

But yet the series has always shown Skooma as TES equivalent of cocaine. Some NPCs in Skyrim talk about how Skooma ruins their lives. The main character is the only one not affected by drinking it. Everyone else is usually affected negatively by it. Not as much as the previous games have shown the addicts to be affected, but that is because, like you said, its watered down.

As a Khajiit, this one wishes that those in Skyrim he sells it to would become addicted so that he could up the price. However, it makes no sense how the guards arrest you, you serve time, and they give your stuff back. They return the skooma.

Guards never did that before

Cure Disease is for when you get a dirty disease deep in a dungeon with no shrine to pray ;)

In Oblivion the spell negated the reason to ever go to a shrine but now in Skyrim if you don't have a potion then you have to go ask the gods to cure you so it definitely works.
