Skrymir

I've been reading a lot about Norse mythology lately, and came across one of the stories about Thor. The name of one of his enemies jumped out at me.

During another visit to Jotunheim, Thor and Loki met Skrymir, an especially large giant. He was so big that when they wandered into one of his gloves, they thought they were in a mansion and slept in one of the fingers. In the morning they found Skrymir sleeping, and Thor tried to crush the giant's head with Mjollnir. Skrymir simply brushed away the blow as though it were no more than a falling leaf.

I was wondering if they had planned Skyrim to include giants from the very outset, as perhaps the focus instead of dragons. Or is this just a co-incidence? Any thoughts?

Giants are confirmed in the game. (In the GI article)

But the focus is on dragons, and it (probably) was from day one.

Sorry, by 'outset' I mean when they originally named the provinces.

It's certainly possible that this myth inspired their naming of the region in the early days of The Elder Scrolls lore. Then again, it could also be that "Skyrim" is a reference to the tall peaks of the mountains themselves, hence "Sky-Rim."

Still, great find there Wednesday.

There is a screenshot of a giant in the Game Informer Skryim issue. And the international magazines have mentioned how Giants will not attack you unless you attack them first.
