SKSE problem.

This is my second topic here. My first I was able to resolve myself, this time I really need some help :/

Okay, so here's the thing. I have the Steam version of Skyrim. The Legendary Edition to be exact. I have quite a few mods installed.

I used BOSS to manage my load order for me, except I have to manually set it so that Realistic Lighting Overhaul stays at the bottom. Anyway, I try to use SKSE through the original Skyrim launcher because of two reasons.

1. I use the Steam browser a lot while in game to look stuff up.

2. I have mods from the Steam Workshop I'd like to be kept updated automatically.

The problem is, I want to use Nature of the beast II, however it requires SKSE. Unfortunately for me, whenever I use SKSE, it crashes on loading my last save. Before, it gave the error that my Skyrim needed to be updated. I uninstalled it completely and tried again. Then it started to load my save, but it never stopped loading. Usually it takes just a few seconds to load, I had to use the Task Manager to close the game. And now it's crashing right after I press the Continue button to load the save right before I become a werewolf. Once I remove SKSE and load up my save, it not only works, but Nature of the Beast says it requires SKSE.

It has worked for me before, months ago. But now it doesn't seem to work no matter what I try. Nature of the beast II isn't the only mod I want to use with SKSE. I also would like to use those body mods, but of course, they all use SKSE, which has become a thorn in my side...

Notes:

Yes I have searched before posting.

No I did not install SKSE through NMM

Yes I have done a clean install of Skyrim. I had to do this 2 days ago because it kept crashing no matter what. I clean reinstall fixed that and I was able to use the same mods again, but avoided some I suspected causing the CTDs.

Sorry for the super long post, I try to be as detailed as possible. I'd appreciate the help. Thanks.

You should use skse_launcher.exe and you should not use Workshop.

All versions of Skyrim use Steam - it's the DRM the game uses - so you don't need to use the Skyrim Launcher. As long as you have Steam running on your system (you'll see the icon in your taskbar), you can use SKSE to launch the game, and the game will still run through Steam so you'll still be able to browse, etc.

What happens is that SKSE loads the little extras it needs before automatically loading the game itself.

SKSE is pretty essential, and shouldn't be causing you any issues - so let's help you get things working!

You can't "use SKSE through the original Skyrim launcher" - you need to run skse_launcher instead.

Watch Gopher's video about SKSE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTGnQIiNVqA - and make sure you've installed it all correctly.

There are many reasons not to use the Workshop, but if you want to use it, go ahead - some mods are exclusive to the Workshop, and this may be your only way of getting the mods.

Beware, though - as sometimes when mod authors update their mods they may add new features you don't want, or may introduce bugs or incompatibilities with your other mods that didn't exist in the earlier versions of the mod.

Modding requires attention from the user, particularly if you have more than a couple of mods - or you could end up wrecking your game.

I'd strongly suggest not using the Workshop to manage your mod subscriptions if you have more than a couple of mods - if you still want to use the Workshop, subscribe but then don't let it automatically update - but make sure you manually check for updates on a regular basis. Then you can choose to update or not.

This is why I'd recommend the Nexus - for a larger load order, you need control over what's going on - the NMM will also notify you of updates to your mods, but will give you the option to update or not, linking to the mod page so you can see if the changes are good for you or if there will be compatibility issues in the new version.

Post your load order from BOSS, so we can see what's happening in general.
