Skyrim E3 2011 Thread #2

Post » Sun Jul 18, 2010 5:16 am

E3 is now basically a press conference convention, with about 10% of the coolness factor it used to have.

Anything Bethesda shows/discusses at E3 will be intended for the mainstream gaming press, so expect the questions to be every conceivable rewording of:

1) Are there dragons?
2) Can you ride a dragon?
3) Can you become a dragon?
and
4) So tell me more about dragons...

That is unless E3 screws up and lets some german or scandinavian journos in, in which case we might get some good questions. They'll probably have a cool display, which we'll see pictures or video of at all the usual gaming news sites.

I soooo much agree with this....

I know how they've been saying it's closed booth and all, but they always end up releasing gameplay footage at E3. They did with Oblivion and FO3. It'll probably just be the same quest they've shown to the press already but, you know still good.

Anyway, not long now. :foodndrink:

It's been confirmed they will talk about factions by Todd Howard himself:

That link should make the video go directly to the bit where Todd Howard confirms they will talk factions at E3, as well as more shouts.

Pete tweeted about some new RAGE stuff last night (not at E3, just in general), and today he said he's going to Dallas for some DOOM 4 stuff. Seems like Skyrim is taking the backseat right now unfortunately. Especially considering Skyrim releases less than 2 months after RAGE, and when you look at all the media released for RAGE compared to Skyrim it's pretty shocking.

RAGE has more of an uphill battle because they need to create consumer awareness of a completely new brand.

Their Skyrim PR strategy is actually pretty smart IMO. At least it keeps TES fans constantly coming back to the forums and scouring the Earth for snippets of information revealed in European interviews, etc.

If they just revealed every possible detail about Skyrim now, of course I would be happy, but it would be more difficult for Bethesda to keep Skyrim in the spotlight for gaming journalists for the next several months.

Sorry if this is slightly O/T - but no Valve either.

Will we ever hear about HL3/HL Ep 3 :(

In an attempt to stay mildly compliant, I am certain there will be something juicy for us soon. There'll be a video released in a controlled manner, probably of this demo, as we have heard so much about it. If not at E3 (which looks unlikely) then sometime in June.

As an age old speculator from the old days I correctly predicted the announcement at Spike, so I know my shizzle, whizzle.

Yea, Valve is disappointing lately. I posted a thread in CD yesterday here you go... http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1192452-no-half-life-at-e3/page__pid__17718802__st__40#entry17718802

As for Skyrim, I'm getting slightly worried. Between not knowing when we'll see gameplay and now with MW3 releasing 3 days before who knows what's going to happen. Maybe that announcement had Beth rethink what they'll show at E3.

Honestly the confirmation of some details on the factions intrigues me most now. I didn't know it was confirmed until I saw that video. I'd love to see more races though!

During the last con season Bethesda was juggling three titles: Brink, Hunted, and RAGE and from what I could tell each one got plenty of time in the sun. This year they two, RAGE and Skyrim, and possibly a third if Doom 4 is unveiled at QuakeCon, I think they can handle it.

In my opinion the better question is not what title takes precedence, I don't think that's an issue, but which conventions take precedent. I don't think Bethesda is going to put all of their eggs in the E3 basket, not when they want QuakeCon to shine as well, and then there's also PAX, Germany, Tokyo, et cetera.

Don't kid yourself. Pete wouldn't drag out the "maybe" if there weren't going to be videos for both games.

TGS is mainly for Japanese games and publishers who want to reach out to the Japanese market. I don't think Bethesda is one of them.

Oblivion and Fallout 3 were big hits in Japan, and Zenimax has a publishing arm there (Zenimax Asia). I don't believe Pete was at TGS last year but I know he's been there in the past and if he isn't there Zenimax Asia could still be there to show off the game.

Not to mention it's Tango's home turf. For all we know Zenimax Online is working on a Pokemon/ Hello Kitty MMO.

Do you happen to know if Skyrim is releasing on 11.11 in Japan? They said it's a worldwide release, so I assume so. I just thought Beth's previous games hit Japan much later.

Japan is such a big gaming market that even fringe titles sell more than, say France or Italy, but it is a difficult market for WRPGs, and the numbers for what would be considered "successful" end up being a tiny fraction of the sales for JRPG titles. I would say that over 50,000 units is probably considered successful for a WRPG in Japan.

By these standards Oblivion was a smash hit in Japan, according to VGchartz it sold 137k units on PS3 and 130k units on Xbox (PC sales not reported).

By comparison, look at the Japan sales numbers for some of the top games.
