Skyrim on 360, 720p or 1080p ?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 3:34 am

It would only be an improvement if the game would increase the resolution as well. But it's still 1280x720 (= 720p) pixels even if you play at 1360x780. It's only upscaled ("stretched") to fit the TV's resolution. Same if you play at 1080i or p. Always the same resolution of the game itself and therefore no real improvement in visual quality.
It's really just a matter of who scales better.
And that's why you're right, change the settings of your 360 to better fit to your TV can certainly improve the image quality if your TV handles some resolutions better than others :)

Can you elaborate on that for me?
Why is it that 1360x780 looks better then 1080p?
Is it because my TV set scales it better then what the Xbox can 1080p?

As I said earlier, I've no idea with these things. I just know what looks best for me and what doesn't.

How do you know what your tv's native resolution is? I have a 32" LCD vizio an on the front of the tv it says 1080p full hd in the corner can you guys help because I'm using the red blue an green cables right now but I'm getting a hdmi cord here soon. So how do I know what best fits my tv?

1080p means 1920x1080.

That's what mine is native to at least. Your TV manual should say.

Ok my manual says my native is 1920x1080 so does that mean for the best picture I should play in 1080p cause if so I already am.

Well in my case, no, 1360x780 looks better. Give it a crack.

Strange behaviour. Are you sure your TV supports 1080p? Not just downscales 1080p footage to a lower resolution?
Normally the native resolution of your TV should be the best looking one and in both cases the 360 does the scaling.
If you have a 1080p TV and the game a resolution of 720p, there is no logical explanation why especially 1360x780 should look better than either 1080p or 720p. Better than 720p can make sense if the 1080p TV has a worse interpolation for 720p and handles 1360x780 better, but then 1080p shouldn't look worse, too.
Not that I doubt your impression, I just can't explain why that's the case

You have to check for yourself which resolution looks fine for you. It's not always the same on each TV and hard to predict which one looks better on yours.

Sony Bravia 40 inches here. My xbox is set to 1080p and expend colors and all game looks superb. Trick is to set the image settings correctly from the tv.

Btw, if your tv support 1080p your xbox should be set to 1080p , With the use of hdmi cable of course. 1080p > all

From what i have read i guess i should use 720p?

My TV is a 32" 'HD Ready' LCD, it only support's up to 1080i on my xbox (the TV can support 1080p but the xbox just wont go for it) using the Red Blue and Green HD AV cable's.

I have not seen the 'x' resolution's which i assume are only if you are using HDMI cable? I guess i should try 720p as 1080i does look a little rough around the edge's, i always assumed 1080i would be the better resolution since it's the highest but it should be obvious by now that i dont know [censored] about resolutions :P

I have a 32 in Sony Bravia. How do you change the resolution? also, if I just used the normal AV cables instead of the HDMI cable would it look better?

God, stay with your hdmi cable , much better than av cable, higher resolution. Make sure your xbox is set to 720p or 1080p , depends on your tv max resolution.

1080i wont make any difference from my expirience. It just stretches 720p to fit.

The only way I improved it was to use 1360x780, but thats with my Samsung, so it my not apply to all sets.

Switched from 1080i to 720p after a lot of googlin' :P i do notice it looks a little smoother and my eye's actually dont get as stressed as they have previously.

It's 720p upscalled.

PS there are native 1080p 360 games. Not all are 720p. IT's jsut a more reliable resolution for the console for higher detailed games.

Do you have the option of trying other resolutions?
I'm interested to see if my situation is unique.
