I don't think so, if you can. use 1360x780. I think it looks better then 1080i.

I don't know if its just my console but everything looks jagged on 1080i and 1080p, but on the forced resolutions it looks smooth like it would on a PC (minus the other graphical features)

Wut ?

Try it.

When I have mine set to 1080p the straight edges on swords are all jagged and textures are blurred.
I've no idea why it does this. It's the same on 1080i as well.

Set it to one of the other resolutions and the image is clear and smooth.
I think I have a problem somewhere, but no amount of searching has provided an answer. The best I've come up with is that the console is just scaling 720p to fit the sceen. But I don't know. What I do know is that with my TV (Samsung HD 40") connected to my Xbox360 via HDMI the image quality is best when using 1360x768.

All 360 games use 720p or lower as native resolution (Skyrim is 720p) and that is why they look jagged when upscaled to higher resolution.

It looks 100% nicer set on 1360x780 or what ever it is.
I have the options of:

680x640
800x600
480p
720p
1080i
1080p - wont work properly, looks no different to 720p when it does.
**x**
1360x780 - looks clean and crisp, text is smooth and models are smooth.
1440x990 - wont work properly and has bars top and bottom
1690x1060 - same problem.

I have a 32 in Sony Bravia. How do you change the resolution? also, if I just used the normal AV cables instead of the HDMI cable would it look better?

Use the HDMI, go to system settings and into display settings. All your resolution options are listed in there.
After you do that, go and set the colour refference to "expanded". It will transform the dungeons. It makes the shadows dark and the candle lit passages ways flicker with light as they should.

I must be missing something. the only thing under HDMI is: Control for HDMI On/Off. Device Auto Power Off On/Off. Tv Auto Power On on/off. Device list. and Device control keys. None of them seem to do anything...

Strange, mine is on 1080p and looks very good. I'd say the jagged edges are probably the upscaling and the size of your tv. Mine is a fair bit smaller than 40" so I don't notice any jagged edges at all but possibly could be the size of the screen.

Most games are mad in 480p-720p

360 only upscale to 1080i-p but it's not the actually resolution

In most cased for better frame rate clarity your better off playing the game in it's original resolution i.e. 720p

Well from a quick google - 720p = 1280x720

Any wonder 1360x780 is a bit better. I've had no drama's with frame rates either.

In the end it is preference, but the rule of thumb is to display at your TVs native resolution, which in most peoples cases is 1080p. Also, the correct setting for gaming on a TV is HDMI standard, otherwise you are crushing blacks. If that looks too bright or washed out, you need to calibrated your TV better.

Yep, I spent an hour or so getting me telle sorted.

I'll see if I can get a shot of my setup.

It looks 100% nicer set on 1360x780 or what ever it is.
It really depends on your TV which resolution looks the best.
Your TV most likely has a native Resolution of 1366×768 which is not uncommon for HD Ready TVs and then it depends on who does a better job at scaling since the game always runs at 720p and either your TV or the 360 has to scale the image if you use a larger resolution than 1280x720.
If setting the game to 1366×768 looks better than 720p for you, then the 360 does a better job with upscaling than your TV but it can always be the other way around either on other TVs. I prefer to play in the native resolution. Really depends on your TV and everyone has to test for him/herself.

My TV's native resolution is 1920x1080. (well at least that's what it defaults to)
Problem is, when I set it to 1080i or 1080p it just stretches the 720 to fit the screen instead of increasing the resolution. Unfortunately my 360 wont show the option to have 1920x1080 resolution or I'd use that. (I've seen screen shots of the dashboard with the option, buggered if I know why I can't).

Now from what I've read on the internet, 720p roughly equates to 1260x780. So it makes sense to me that 1360x780 would be a slight improvement.

But I do agree, everyone should experiment. I just wanted to get it out there that you can have a better picture then what the 360 initially sets.

It would only be an improvement if the game would increase the resolution as well. But it's still 1280x720 (= 720p) pixels even if you play at 1360x780. It's only upscaled ("stretched") to fit the TV's resolution. Same if you play at 1080i or p. Always the same resolution of the game itself and therefore no real improvement in visual quality.
It's really just a matter of who scales better.
And that's why you're right, change the settings of your 360 to better fit to your TV can certainly improve the image quality if your TV handles some resolutions better than others :)

Games aren't made in any resolution. Its just that the 360 is such a crappy piece of hardware that it would blow up if you used any higher resolution.
