[Spoilers] Skyrim Achievements

Post » Wed Oct 05, 2011 5:50 am

I'm curious how achievements for a game come out a month before the game is even released? I guess Bethesda has to summit them to Microsoft for approval? Maybe then it gets leaked from there?

Sounds like Microsoft would be against this, I'm sure Bethesda isn't happy.

It also says "Oblivion Walker"

I wonder if we get to go to each prince's realm :disguise:

I wonder what the circle is?

Sounds like it's a part of the Companions, from where it's located in that list. Each guild looks to have three achievements attached to it, with the Legion and the Stormcloaks sharing achievements.

So I just posted this over in r/skyrim at reddit, and I figured I'd come back to my old friends that I haven't visited in a while. It's basically just me looking at the achievements, and making a bunch of them very clear. The Circle is going to be the inner circle of high ranking Companions members, just to answer those of you that have already been talking about that. That'll be clear when you read my list.

Unbound: Very minor spoiler, released as early information.
Spoiler
First quest. Your Blade buddy helps you escape execution. Most likely has tutorial aspects. It ends with you no longer being a prisoner.

Bleak Falls Barrow:As seen in the E3 demo footage.
Spoiler
Work your way through the cave, on your way to the throat of the world.

The Way of the Voice: This has to do with widely circulated information regarding your powers.
Spoiler
Reach High Hrothgar, the throat of the world, and talk to the Greybeards.

Diplomatic Immunity: Pure speculation, feel free to read it unless you even want to stay away from ideas about the potential story progression.
Spoiler
Think Hortator and Nerevarine from Morrowind. You know who the big bad is, so you lobby the rebels and imperials so that they won't kill you while you try to complete the main quest.

Alduin's Wall: Still speculation, but possible end-game spoilers if my theory pans out. Beware.
Spoiler
You learn shouts from word walls. These walls contain the dragon language, which stores magical power for the Dovahkiin. This quest will likely deal with the big bad's personal word wall, and may very well include dialogue with the big bad. Think the quest where you infiltrate the Mythic Dawn during Oblivion and see the Camoran.

Elder Knowledge/The Fallen: Stay away from this if you want to keep spoilers away as I'm getting closer and closer to end game material. Still speculation.
Spoiler
Todd Howard says that not all dragons are out to kill you. Your goal is to thwart Alduin, a giant dragon. One of these quests will likely feature you consulting with an elder dragon that hasn't sided with Alduin. He'll give you advice on how to take care of Alduin. Think meeting with Vivec during Morrowind. As for the other one...Elder Knowledge could be a Divayth Fyr type character that helps you figure out how to defeat Alduin. The Fallen could be a Falmer-related quest. The Falmer would have been alive during the previous era of dragons. You know, all three of these sound like fine possibilities, so just pick 2. I'm betting on good dragons and Falmer.

Dragonslayer: Final quest. I won't really speculate on this because I'm still not sure how it will all end, and you can find speculation for that over at the gamesas forum.
The following are just pretty obvious summations of the main Skyrim guilds.

Take Up Arms: Join the modern Fighters Guild.

Blood Oath: Reach a high rank in the Companions.

Glory of the Dead: End of the combat guild's main questline.

Gatekeeper: Join the modern Mages Guild. Sounds a lot like entering the Shivering Isles/Arcane University since both of those had to do with passing through a gate.

Revealing the Unseen: I'm betting this is the major plot twist for the magic guild.

The Eye of Magnus: End of the magic guild's main questline.

Taking Care of Business: Just like it says, you become an official thief.

Darkness Returns: Thieves Guild quest. Do I know what it's about? Nah.

One of the Shadows: End of the Thieves Guild questline. Sounds a lot like the end of the final quest for Oblivion Thieves Guild.

With Friends like These: Your buddies are murderers. The initiation of this quest is highlighted in the demos that can be found on the Elder Scrolls website.

Bound Until Death: Some Dark Brotherhood quest, you see the pattern here.

Hail Sithis!: End the...you get it. Another questline complete.

Taking Sides: Minor spoiler that simply confirms what plenty of people thought was a possibility, very evident based on the title, but spoilered because I care about you. [7] You get to join the rebels or the empire!

War Hero: Big military victory! Speculation spoilers:
Spoiler
My best guess is that this is you taking back some of your territory that had been occupied by the enemy forces.

Hero of Skyrim: End of the political questline.
Spoiler
The two cities mentioned are the rebel and imperial stronghold cities. You can see them highlighted on plenty of maps.

This was originally written for that subreddit, so I didn't go into great detail like I usually do when I'm here. Still, you get the idea. If you have ideas, critiques, any of that, go ahead and let me know. I know this thread will get crowded, so try to address me by name so I can search for it. That'd be super. Later.

Edit: Some posters have drawn my attention the icons, which I didn't pay any attention to. So here's my little list of updates given the images shown.

Spoiler
Unbound features the executioner, this was pointed out by a recent poster.
Bleack Falls Barrow features the spider that we've seen in the trailer. Arachnophobes may want to be wary of this.
Alduin's Wall: We've got a nordic-type armored dude with some magic or mist coming out of his mouth. Seems like a dragon shout.
Elder Knowledge: As pointed out by another poster, that looks like an elder scroll.
The Fallen: That looks like the friendly dragon that I mentioned in my spoiler related to this achievement the Elder Knowledge.
Dark Brotherhood: We've got an interesting 2, 3, 1 skull pattern. Could mean a few things, might simply be you and the brotherhood, you and the brothers, and you at the top, wielding your power with an iron (blade) fist.
War Hero: Check out the tiny tiny symbols for the rebels and empire.
Golden Touch: Looks like money will grow on trees in Skyrim. I doubt many of the people on this forum are happy about that.

All that achievement confirms is that you have to collect 15 out of however many artifacts there are to unlock it.

I seriously doubt it's legit. These are all things mentioned in articles and interviews before, and it would be easy to make images like that. Bethesda hasn't even confirmed if they ARE doing achievements yet.

You know there are 16 princes and each one with a artifact?

Doesn't mean that's how they're approaching it. The term artifact is pretty loose, and with their track record on keeping things constant there could be dozens of the things.

True. If they didn't do achievements, they'd be in trouble. But why show them off before confirming you're doing them...?

The biggest spoiler about this list is, assuming it's all inclusive, it makes the prospect of vampirism and werewolves that much more unlikely. Not a single reference. It's possible they don't have an achievement for those since they're kind of like unofficial eastereggs.

As I said, they don't have a choice. It's releasing on the 360, and Microsoft requires all games released on the 360 to have Achievments. And that site has a very good track record.

awww.... I was kind of hoping for some achievements with a little pizazz or difficulty. :( Like jumping off the throat of the world and surviving, or counting all 7,000 steps. Oh well...

Didn't realize. Well then I'm much less worried about both werewolves and vampires not being included in the achievements.

Let's see if I can do this off the top of my head.

Azura
Mephala
Boethia
Mehrunes Dagon
Hermaeous Mora
Nocturnal
Molag Bal
Malacath
Sheogorath
Jyaggalag
Peryite
Hircine
Sanguine
Meridia
Clavicus Vile
Namira
Vaermina

I only got 14/17, so the last three I had to look up. So like I said, 17 total, including the dichotomy between Sheogorath and Jyaggalag. Now, remember, you mantled Sheogorath back in Oblivion, so they are no longer the same entity. For certain, the Sheogorath that you once knew is now Jyaggalag, and then you may or may not have fully become Sheogorath. Other things to consider are that Todd Howard mentioned daedric involvement in the main plot. This could also tie into one of the later main quests (Elder Knowledge, The Fallen).

So the questionable folks, in my opinion are...*drum roll*
Hermaeous Mora: Doesn't care about people, really. Doesn't care about appearances based on the form that he/she takes up. Wouldn't even see you in Oblivion until you met with everyone else.
Mehrunes Dagon: You remember what happened to him 200 years ago. Maybe he's still pissed. Then again, the Deadlands are said to be very cold, so maybe he likes Skyrim.
Jyaggalag: Also got beat up 200 years ago. He's said to be a pretty bad guy as far princes go. So who knows.
Clavicus Vile: While we're on the subject of princes that have been recently slighted, most of us are familiar with the events of the Infernal City.
Namira: Ugly dude. Maybe he/she just doesn't want to show its face.
Sheogorath: May or may not have the powers necessary to bestow an artifact onto you. Statues could have lost their power during the switchover. Plenty of complications could arise.
Peryite: Camera shy? Peryite takes on the form of a dragon to mock Akatosh/Alduin. Just thought I'd toss him in here just in case.
Hircine: The possibility of Bloodmoon II has not been ruled out, so our antlered friend might be waiting until the expansion to make his grand entrance.

Everyone else checks out. So we've got 15 total, that means two have to go. I don't see any reasons that those two are not featured in my little list right here, so we can all speculate away. Sheogorath/Jyaggalag could both be absent just to avoid having to explain themselves. I figure Namira is going to show, same with Peryite, but I don't think that's been proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Again, comments, criticisms, theories are welcome.
