Skyrim affecting real life

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 1:05 am

My character does a lot of Alchemy and thus picks every flower/plant he sees. In real life, when I go for a walk in my neighborhood and I see a front yard with some flowering plants, my first instinct is to walk up to them and hit E. Seriously, for a split second I mentally hit E and expect the flowers to go away. Lots of my neighbors have Mexican Brush Sage which looks like lot like Lavender in the game. Gets me every time.

Does this happen to anyone else or am I just weird? Any other examples of Skyrim affecting your real-life interactions?

Nope, just you. You might want to look into therapy.

I almost yelled NIRNROOT in Walmart when passing the flowers when I use to play Oblivion. Then I did the sneaking and got the WTF from my wife. Suffice to say, I haven't done this in Skyrim, but almost yelled Nirnroot but my wife stopped me. :P

I find myself wishing that I had Nord Blood for the frost resistance, because the Texas Hill Country has had three [censored] weeks of unbearable cold after 3/4 of a year of blistering heat.

Hmm, haven't played enough of it yet for that to happen.

... But when I was on my Oblivion-spree, I do recall talking to actual people, noticing all the creases and uglies, and sort of picturing the little persuasion wheel. It's the oddest feeling. :lmao: Morrowind, now... Ah, once I was at my job, and there was this odd, eerily close screech from outside. ...I actually ducked. Took my a few hours to kick the embarrassment, and the fight-music from my head. :P

I can't do the tiny bits of playing. When I do, that's 5-6 hours in a row, or more. That kinda messes up your perceptions, especially if you take that as an alternative to sleep.

I have somehing thats a bit opposite.
When Im sneaking in the game I find myself trying to be quiet in real life.
I cought myself holding up a sneeze cause for a second I thought it would blow my cover.

I gotta say... one thing Skyrim did that affected me postively in real life was calming my irrational fear of things that skitter with eight legs. I've been arachnophobic since I can remember, but after crawling through dozens of Skyrim dungeons that have GIANT spiders as residence I can now say that when I see a spider doing it's freaky shuffle up my apartment wall I just shrug and go "Meh... it'll piss off eventually".

I used to tell random people my life stories whenever they passed by me.

Got more than a few odd stares :sadvaultboy:

You know you play too much Skyrim whenever one of your friends tells you about stuff they used to do as kids but suddenly stopped (activities such as swimming and/or other sports), and you respond by saying: "Then you took an arrow in the knee?"

Whenever anyone IRL says "I used to (insert random action here, such as 'take the bus')." Something inside of me forces me to say "then you took an arrow in the knee, I know.

I rarely walk around in real life like I'm on planet earth, I'm always in a fantasy land thinking about picking up twigs and flowers to mix potions or when I'm in a area with a lot of people around I can almost mentally turn them into other races orcs, elves.....etc etc

Nah, that's ok, you are married, doesn't count! :P

I tried to FUS-RO-DAH my girlfriend. Sadly it didn't work and the nagging continued.

It's not just you. I'll see an occasional visual trigger like that one that takes me back to Skyrim but it's fleeting since I live in reality....well, when I'm not in Skyrim anyway. :D

You really need help... :(

I thought that the worst effect of TES was to be suspended from this forum by making silly TES-loreish jokes about Bethesda and moderators!!! :o
