skyrim age rating

Post » Fri Aug 05, 2011 8:00 pm

Well, don't know what to tell you, I'm fourteen and I have already pre-ordered Skyrim.....but yes, it will likely be rated M, no doubt.

I sure hope this doesn't turn into one of those "ZOMG!! SEEING BLOOD WILL MAKE OUR CHILDRENZ INTUZ CEREAL KILLAHZZ!!!" threads.

Right, there's nothing worst than people that murder Frosted Flakes or Fruit Loops.

That svcks OP.
It's nice being an advlt and being able to buy stuff without asking my parents.

Hopefully you can get them to get it for you.

I played God of War 3 in front of my dad, and he said nothing. He also heard lots of people swearing at me in CoD and he was like "Don't let them get away with it!"

Explain to your parents that this games is about killing dragons and monsters, and if you really have to, over-emphasize and exaggerate that it is a fantasy game and has no gore and that it is nowhere near realistic. Also be really nice and present your facts well, don't beg and cry. My parents felt the same way as yours, but when I explained it was a mature piece of fiction, and say that it is about killing just as much as Minecraft is. It's a game about exploration, not mindless violence. Hope this helps. ;)

i'm 17 so i can legally buy it. only problem is that i don't have a permit therefore have no form of ID that says so. I guess its time to take that darn permit test.

seriously if skyrim weren't coming out, i would just wait until i was 18 and just get my license. i mean my parents would buy it for me of course, but i just wanna go to the midnight release :D

Edit: To be helpful, i'd say give one of your friends money so they can buy it for you. sneak it home in your backpack, and enjoy. thats what my friend did when grand theft auto 4 came out, and his mom didn't even know. (of course this is the same friend that just snuck turok 2 into the shopping cart when he was seven, so take that as you will)

and judging by the fact that you have strict parents that won't let you get mature rated games, they wouldn't know the difference between what you are playing anyway because they probably haven't invested an interest in your hobby as a gamer and don't know a thing about video games. ah the beauty of parents using the rating system as an excuse to ignore their child's hobbies. classic.

I thought that since video games were covered under the first amendment (in the US) the game ratings were more of a guideline than a rule as far as sales go. Then again, I could be terribly wrong.

My parents are ok with the games I play lol. There's no problem if I don't bother to give me money. They let me play oblivion when it came out and I'm 15 now. (of course it was my sister's game then. Now I buy them with my money.)

sorry kid, that svcks. maybe you can prove to them you are more mature than your age would suggest? maybe promise better grades in return? that, or just wait a few years.

You could ask a friend with less strict parents to help you get it, perhaps. It shouldn't be too hard to figure something out. But yeah, it's most likely going to be an M rating.

Hopefully the rating is M or 18+. Allows for more mature content which I'm hoping for. And basically any game with any even mildly mature themes can get an 18+ rating so its not such a big deal. Oblivion got an M rating and it was more of a disneyland than a dark and mature world. I'd be worried if Skyrim isnt 18+. Of course you could try to reason with your parents since Elder Scrolls arent that traumatizing and I dont see them as harmful to kids in any way. If theyre that strict though I doubt they'd listen to reason.

That isn't good to hear. While it will be a mature theme try a mature approach. Research the lore of TES, show them it isn't a mindless hack and slash and is designed to encourage freedom and choice. If you choose to put as much thought into why you want to play this game your parents may be swayed. Other options would be to rent and let them review it with you and there may even be a "blood inhibitor" shipped with the game if that is what they are squeemish about. Be creative and ask them to be receptive in return. If you show forethought in your decision then you are showing "wisdom" that few advlts can manage it may sway them. Just make the apporach calm and deliberate.

Oh.... And show them the "Teaser Trailer". Then follow it up with the "gameplay trailer". If they aren't as pumped as you are for the game they may at least say you can get it

my parents were also stict back in my day (i'm only 20 btw) and they bought us M games, but things weren't as "bad" back then! the graphics of today are insane and the things you can do are insane!
i hope skyrim has DISMEMBERMENT! the last game that i enjoyed that had it was AGE OF CONAN, but they took it out later down the road >.< it was badass!
if your parents won't get it for you just start screaming! i think it works for all ages, unless you're a married man... your wife will probably kill you? lol

It sais RP-M which games they show on that website contain games that are rating pending through mature. That doesnt mean that Skyrim will be rated M, but probably will. Outta luck pal. Sorry
