skyrim age rating

Post » Fri Aug 05, 2011 4:16 pm

Hah! It's been twelve years since i had to worry about ratings. I feel so old

I've never had to worry about ratings. I've been playing games that are rated M(or its equivalent) for over 20 years. Yes, this includes games that had no rating because there wasn't much of a system ><

It's going to be rated M.

svcks for you, I'm actually the same age but my parents aren't strict, they don't need to be because I've never been a trouble-kid.

Anyway, I actually pre-ordered it, my dad said he'd even let me take a day off school just to play it.

Same, I've never been a trouble kid, but my parents are pretty strict, but not that much with video games. Now if I could find a way to persuade them to let me take a day off to play it... Any ideas? :tes:

Todd Howard himself said, "I cant imagine it not being M." So yeah... its going to be M or w/e your country's equivalent is.

I'm gonna be 17 in late September so the rating won't matter to me at all anymore, so I could care less as long as it doesn't go AO which I highly doubt would happen.

Well i'm 17, but in the past i would tell my parents that Max Payne was a cop game (arrest baddies and what-not) so you can tell your parents that its like lord of the rings or something.

ok so i went on the skyrim official ebsite and at the bottom it said 18. Im 13 and i have strict parents. so if it is 18 i wont be allowed it. does the rating at the bottom mean it will cus on here it says rating pending?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

by a racing game that is rated teen as well as Skyrim.. throw out the racing disc and the skyrim case then keep skyrim in the case of the racing game... there you go.. and don't say but I am thirteen I can't by it. most people don't card if they keep doing it just go to target

That kind of svcks. If your parents are reasonable, then you could probably convince them by comparing it to Oblivion, which you've said they've allowed you to play. It will probably have the same M rating.

My parents let me play Resident Evil when I was 6, and I don't think they ever even asked about the rating when I told them I wanted to get a game. I was playing Grand Theft Auto by the time I was 10, and I turned out alright.

Hey I know this may be considered thread hijacking to some people.... but I have a question.

Assuming the ESRB rating is going to be M, I am only 15 and have already pre-ordered Skyrim. Parents aren't a problem they are actually excited for me. :P Would I be able to walk in and buy it with my dad standing next to me (clearly giving me permission) or would my dad have to go in on his own and buy it for me because I'm under age?

Thank you~

In my experience, I haven't had any issues purchasing an M rated game myself as long as a parent was standing next to me. Occasionally, the clerk asked whoever was with me if it was okay for me to get the game, but that was it. I don't have to worry about that anymore, though, since I'm 17 now and turning 18 next month.

Oblivion was rated T until they learned of the nvde body stuff hidden deep within the game. Only then did they change it to M.

The nvde models arent even detailed are they? I mean like no texture or details? Nothing like a sixy nvde mod or anything? Ohh boy censorship.

If I remember correctly, it was just the inclusion of the mesh of a nipble in Oblivion that caused the M rating. This mesh wasn't even available unless added in manually, much like the whole GTA thing, it was in game, but only after the user modded to get access to it.

Nevermind that any video game that actually uses models for armor etc will have a completely nvde character model with no textures to use as a base and to fit the armor geometry over.

Heck, any game for that matter is going to have nvde body models with no textures. Some games, like WoW, use painted on textures for armor. That model didn't come with that underwear texture.

Character models don't come with the armor already on them.

So there's something wrong with female models having nipbles but not the male ones right? Because if those were attached to male models there'd be no issues. At all.

Besides. This is the ES mod community. If they want nipbles they'll alter the mesh themselves.

my parents were the same way. they would see a game like TES the same way they would see gears of war, or grand theft auto. just kinda stinks unless their willing to be convinced of the differences.

well I got t ohand it to you.

I played a game that was voluteerly rated m for nudity and advlt themes like drinking.....

that was years ago( serpent isle)

well I see a few ways to get by it
1: tell them it is the sequal to morrowind, and ask you dad to play if for a few hours and then let him decide.
2: go out and spend some time with a friend, have them buy it for you. take the game out of box, take all content with you, dispose of the box. play game without sound.

though this way might not work if its a pc/xbox thats own by your family and they all play it.

best option, is 1 or you can buy it and never open it for a few years. besides .....

most of the games I played were rated g and t growing up, serpents isle and daggerfall were the first to have full nudity , that I ever played.

Lol i know how that feels man, i turned 17 in april and im so happy that i dont need to have my dad come into gamestop to buy my games. Youre not in high school yet so you couldnt ask someone of age to buy it for you. Give your mom puppy dog eyes and make empty promises is all i can tell you man.

13 is an apropriate age to play a fantasy rpg. just explain to your parents that the game is not mindless violence, and that any rating given is a result of the action element that comes with the narative, ie: this guy is bad so he should die.
just dont tell them about the dark brotherhood and you'll be golden.

but just in-case, i'd start working on them now..you only have a few months.

That is incorrect. The rating was raised due to some of the more gory scenes that Bethesda didn't apparently show to the ratings board :nono:

Best reply in the thread. :spotted owl: Buy two games, one of them a racing game. Discard racing game disc. Keep Skyrim in the other game's case. Presumably, pretend Skyrim is actually a racing game when your parents catch you playing it.

Just explain to your folks it's not mindless violence.

Exactly, there's potential for systematic genocide, which is definitely not mindless violence.
