Skyrim and Ads

Post » Thu Sep 22, 2011 9:22 am

Here is what is currently in my head.
A rather simple idea. What about having two versions of Skyrim?
One that comes free, but you watch ads(which pay the game you play free) and a paid add-free version.
I am ready to watch ads(and many if required) just to get this game for free(no torrents).
Now what are the benefits of that:
1.Companies will pay more than I will
- If I buy the game,I will buy it when it's price drops a lot,so Bethseda earns more by commercials than by my one-time payment.
2.That ads can be updated through internet,so more companies will invest in BS.

Is this low?I do not think so,because as I said. You can pay for a game that does not have ads,or you(like me) can play a game with ads,but legally free.
So what do you think about this? And what do you think about games and ads going together at all? :)

They will NOT give skyrim away for free with or without ads.

EDIT: I vote for Paid, but ads-free as I can't stand ads unless Bethesda gives me money about 45% of all money from ads monthly and even then ill block the ads.

I think your the only person in the world who would do this. Just fork out the 60 bucks (This game is worth triple that IMO) instead of being a cheapskate.

Do you know what kind of games are offered for free with ads?

Cheap, crappy iPhone apps.

Skyrim is not a cheap, crappy iPhone app.

P.S. Why is there a poll here? Your suggestion is just to add a silly version of the game. Not one or the other.

No.
This might work for MMO style games, but not for SP games.

Do you know how fb earns money?
Do you know that Mark is richer than whole Bethseda staff combined.
Some people like me are ready to watch ads, like I do on facebook whole day.
Why do I add fb here?
Skyrim will be mega-popular and that means that many people will have acces to it,and ads seem like a good way to earn money.
And if you do not like ads, just buy skyrim. As simple as that.

This really wouldn't work. Millions of dollars went into this game, a few ads aren't going to make that back for them AND give them the revenue they need to continue making great games.

Nice thought, but too large of a scale.

Bethesda would never do that, they have integrity. How about get a job instead of wanting stuff for free? Or wait 15 years, it will be free then.

Ads are the kind of thing that gives pirates a faulty excuse to do their pirate thing. They're also STUPID for single player games.

If Bethesda want to add ads to their game they can, plenty of developers have done it before. The problem is that it doesn't earn the developers any popularity points in the eyes of the fans. I and probably most of the other fans would be pretty pissed off if Bethesda put ads in Skyrim, regardless of whether they do it in a free version or not. That's the sort of thing I would expect EA or Activision to do, not Bethesda.

Lets hope no developer of offline games EVER does anything like this. It will be the end of gaming as we know it. I'd much rather see the end of modern civilized society than the complete and total saturation of corporate capitalistic propaganda in every facet of our existence. Reminds me of Futurama where commercials are beamed into your dreams as you sleep. :yucky:

60 dollars is about 50 euros. The game is worth it,but for 50 euros I can pay some bills. So what should I do now.Hahaha.Let's get some cracked Skyrim copy.Piratery is a big problem.Sb will crack the game to disable ads,but good people will still use the free ads version.

Facebook is a free service, they're allowed to have ads. Putting them in something that I've paid for isn't right.

Video games are kind of expensive I guess, but seriously, $60 every once and a while isn't too bad. I spend almost that much each week on gas.
