Skyrim appears to use reskinned Fallout 3 ghoul models

Post » Wed Jul 07, 2010 1:26 am

For anyone that has seen the magazine, is it just me or have Bethesda reskinned and edited the models of ghouls from Fallout 3 to make the three undead warriors shown on the Radiant Story page?

http://www.thereviewcrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/fallout_3_zombie_ghoul.jpg

Compare the shapes of the brows, the way the left eye is larger than the right eye, and the shape of the skull; the faces of the two creatures are physically identical. If what I have posted is true and the Skyrim undead are just rehashed Fallout 3 models, I'm disappointed.

Thoughts?

The Ghouls from Fallout 3 are similar to the Lich in Oblivion. 'You can't fix what's not broken'

I'm not talking about them looking similar, I'm saying that it appears that they're using exactly the same model, reskinned, with some armour strapped on.

If they are going to add some muscles and tissue to skeletons, it is obvious that they will look similar to these gouls, no problem with that, at least imo.
Maybe we will see more variety in them with this addition.

They do look similar, but even if they did use the ghoul model as a starting point, it definitely looks changed and improved enough to be something new. Also keep in mind, if that even is for sure what they did, it won't use the same animations or sounds as the ghouls or anything.

Not similar, it appears that it's the same model, just reskinned with armour strapped on. I have a feeling I'm going to be posting this a lot in this thread, hence the highlighted 'same model'. :P

Good old sentakai, always here to bash on Bethesda.

Every game does this, it's just most of the time people don't notice. There's no reason to make new assets if you can slightly alter the model.

And, no, it's not the same model. You aren't looking at the entire thing.

I don't mind recycling models if the two creatures would look similar anyway

You can say that about all the criticisms.

It's not just that one thing, it's all of them combined.

Game developers are NOT allowed to reuse assets!
EVERYTHING must be made from scratch.
Come on, this is common knowledge.

Guys, after looking closely, I have to say I disagree. I think the shape of the head is different, the arms are a bit thicker than FO3s ghouls, and I think the only reason it kinda looks like that is because one of them in the magazine happens to have his mouth wide open similar to how the ghouls in Fallout 3 often were. It's similar, but not the same, even if they by some chance did in fact use the ghouls as a starting point.

It looks different enough from the feral ghouls, if it saves them time that they can spend on something else instead that's perfectly fine with me.

Look at the undead guy on the far left. Look at the way exactly the same eye bulges out as on a ghoul. Look at the top of his head; the shape of his skull is the same, with the same contours. Look at how both of their brows stick out; it's clearly the same model.

Also guys, I'm not saying it's some awful sin to reuse assets, but considering they were already reused in New Vegas, and this is a completely different franchise, I would've thought they could come up with some new models after 2 years.

Calm down people.

The arm models are much bigger than that of Fallout 3. Look at the girth in the Nord warriors wrists compared to the lanky and frailness of the ghouls.

All invalid criticism combined make an equal-or-greater-than quantity of valid criticisms.
