Skyrim becoming COD?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 2:23 am

EDIT: COD stands for Call of Duty (MW, WaW, MW2 and Black Ops)

I've been watching these forums for the past few weeks and sifting through all the new info and it just feels to me that skyrim is basically becoming COD. Well not in the way there are guns etc that would be silly (though skyrim does have one hit kill bows now). I haven't seen anyone post this topic already so I guess I'll dive in as I know I'm not the only one thinking it...

These are the reasons skyrim is copying COD:
  • Skyrim has runes you can place on the floor (basically a claymore (landmine))
  • Skyrim now has PERKS, yeah I wonder where they came from...
  • Players can now sprint across the map, as primarily used in COD and by judging the gameplay trailer the camera bob even looks the same as COD's
  • As mentioned above Skyrim now has one hit kill bows and zoom in (basically a rifle with a sight mounted)
  • The graphics look very equal to Black Ops, not the same engine but look very similar...
  • You can equip weapons with enchantments (like extra damage from fire which is essentially FMJ in COD games)

Thank you for reading and please vote in my poll if you too see skyrim the same way I do (even if you didn't before)

EDIT: CAN A MOD PLEASE CLOSE THIS BECAUSE EVERYONE IS JUST HATING ON ME AND NOT EVEN TALKING ABOUT THE TOPIC. PLEASE! PS. YOU GUYS NEED TO CALM DOWN A GIVE A FRIEND A BREAK JEEEEEZ

Would help is you actually explained what COD ment because the standard meaning is Cash on delivery.

ahh ta.

having only played the first call of Duty or was it the second? I have to say i don't see how you can say the are similar except very very superfically. but the series may have changed significantly. I just don't find that Oblivion played like a FPS so i doubt Skyrim will.

Your paranoid. And broadly comparing simple features.

But the only thing I can think of is the hold your breath thing when you shoot a bow to get a more accurate shot like how you snipe. But this of course has been in many games aswell and your just really freaking out.

Bows all ready had a focus zoom in Oblivion. Once you reached lvl 50 marksman.

Perks probably came from Fallout series which Beth brought back to everyone's attention with FO3. Also many other games.

COD=Call of Duty , for people who don't know the abbreviation.

First, FMJ doesn't increase damage, it just makes it easier to wallbang...
The thing that inspired them to add perk is mostly Fallout, and NOT Call of Duty.
With a fortify athletics 25 pts for 30 sec you could also sprint
Couldn't someone equip weapons with enchantments in Arena? Oh no, COD stole our idea! Blasphemy!
Skyrim looks way better than rushed BO.

BTW. Worst. Comparison. Ever. Is this serious or are you just trolling?

You know that in Skyrim, you can actually look at the world through your character's eyes?! And there's a sun in the sky during the day? They totally grabbed that from COD.

[*]Yeah, so does like 50 other games in the past before COD ever came out. Traps aren't new or unique to COD.
[*]Perks have been in TES since Daggerfall, they are just in a different form now.
[*]Once again, sprinting isn't new to gaming and many games have had it other than COD.
[*]No, bows can possibly one hit kill, they don't always one hit kill. Zoom has been in the games before with bows. Also, even if they were, snipers have also been in games WAY before COD.
[*]No, not really.
[* ] Did you really say "You can equip weapons with enchantments as something new that must have been taken from COD"? I think you drank some bad skooma since enchantments have been in TES, which of course you may know, TES has been around before COD was even the gleam in someone's eye.

So as I listed points above, TES is not becoming COD and didn't copy COD.

You forgot some facts:

- You have two arms like COD games.
- You can crouch like COD games.
- 5 fingers are on each hand like in COD games.
- There are trees and stones.

Yeah, it looks like Skyrim will be like COD!

1. Cool troll thread bro.

2. The graphics are far superior to Black ops. BO is running on an outdated engine from 2007 and looks like [censored]. for srs, I think COD4 actually looks better than Black ops.

come on guys, there's no need to MOCK me here, this is my first post and no one has posted it before so without getting off topic please discuss. I've already mentioned my valid reasons and now I'd like to hear your support (or in some cases unsupport) but please don't mock me...

Just trying to make the forum more chatty about things which aren't the same over and over and over and over again :/

FFS why is everybody comparing everything to CoD these days? how many elves do you see in CoD? YOU COULD ALWAYS ENCHANT WEAPONS!! you could zoom in OB! And sprinting is now CoD? That athlete just took that sprinting thing from CoD. If a game gets better graphics it's CoD? OMG they breathe oxygen, YOU STOLE THAT FROM CALL OF DUTY!

...... sorry but it seem's everybody compares games to CoD these days and it pisses me off.
CoD is a good game in its own way, but it is NOTHING like TES. i have never and will hopefully will never see a fully automatic FAMAS in TES.

In all fairness, what's there to ultimately discuss? If by 'becoming' you mean the usage of mechanics that either share the same conceptual root that's ambiguous and separate from any specific game, or the usage of mechanics that can be twisted and word-massaged to be similar to other mechanics, then yeah, I guess Skyrim can be considered becoming COD.
It's just that the particular examples you cite (in fact, the whole breadth of examples that might be conjured) seem rather hollow.

Graphics looking alike? I guess, but there's a huge difference between COD's rendering of predetermined-size maps and TES's taking care of small-detail to macroscopic detail. Plus, Skyrim looks more like Oblivion than anything, so that would imply that Oblivion started copying COD.
Sprinting, perks, floor-runes, etc, are all mechanics that at their core cross games and genres both.
Bows being made more powerful was a design-decision to give bows a more believable component that still fits in with the RPG roots, rather than making everyone a giant arrow-pincushion.
Enchantments have been in the series since 1994.

And really, a thread such as this can't be expected to have the most positive reaction in memory.

Cod are confirmed. They can be glimpsed jumping upstream in Skyrim's rivers; a small but appreciated detail in an immersive fantasy landscape.

-They have knives, which are also in COD
-The characters run around in 1st person, like COD
-There are spoken lines, just like in COD!
-You wear clothing, and COD has clothing!

You're right, it's a ripoff.

Also, am I the only person that found it insulting that he didn't include Call of Duty, or COD 2 in his OP? (COD 3 doesn't count, lol) Those games were fun as hell, man.
