Is skyrim being simplified to much?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 7:26 am

Im kind of getting worried about all these things being removed like the skills? only 3 skills now?? im confused.. maybe ign didnt explain it properly or something but it seems like they are trying to simplify it for some reason when they dont even have to. and whats up with removing acrobatics and athletics?? they have always been apart of their games and i enjoyed leveling them up...

but who knows, they might turn out to be the right decisions.. Super pumped on the new screens and how the races look!! The big scenery picture is stunning!

No, no, no, there are eighteen skills. Attributes are gone, you now choose a heath boost, magicka boost, or stamina boost instead of leveling attribues.

EDIT: Also, I'm sure they'll have perks that fill the void left by the removal of athletics and acrobatics.

18 skills, 3 attributes.

18 skills, each with 12-20 perks. Way too simple...

Watch the mot recent interview with Todd Howard. He makes is clear that everything that was in the game with attributes is still in the game, but handled through skills, perks and 'become what you do' gameplay.

Have a bit of faith

Well, my ameadiate response would be a caps lock yes. but there are a select few things that add more to the game, like the cone/trap spell actions. but so far all of the additions to the game seem to have come with a cost, like tons more perks at the cost of attributes, more spell actions at the lose of spell creation* (*still uncomfirmed so its not such a valid point until they do or don't confirm) I would like to see an addtion to the game that doesn't come with the lose of some other really good parts of the series.

It feels that Skyrim is becoming more balanced and well-thought. I've always liked attributes, but I think it's for the better that they are gone.

Acrobatics was such a dumb attribute. It literally required you to bunny hop all over the place in order to level it. And the only thing you could do with it was just jump higher and jump across water at the highest level. Not any real combat advantages you couldn't flip around your opponent or side-roll or anything cool to avoid attacks and you also couldn't climb anything. The whole thing was pointless in my opinion because I never really felt acrobatic no matter how high I get the skill up.

Don't worry, Skyrim has far more combinations that any previous TES game has had and also there is far more complexity to the game then there was as well. Some people are just jumping the gun on thinking the end of the world because they see something is being removed but don't notice (or don't want to notice) that they were replaced with a system that does the same thing as it and more. The game is not lesser in anyway, it's actually more so put your mind at ease dear grasshoppa.

Maybe not to you.....

If that is too simple then you must have really been disappointed with Morrowind and Oblivion :pinch:

WAIT WHAT??!?! No attributes? I knew about the magicka/health/stamina boosts but this lack of attributes is news to me.

As long as it isn't hand holding simple like most games are these days, the kind of simple where a cat with one paw and one eye could play and beat the game with no trouble and which are the most hacked games in existence, then that will be fine. Though I like a challenge, I like having so many options and always learning new things while playing while the game doesn't become simple, nor annoying, but just keeps you on your toes. so that you don't get too comfortable as you improve.

The constant catering in gaming for those who can't get past a press start screen without complaining that it's too complex and they haven't been rewarded for doing nothing is over the top. The gamer should have to make an actual effort when they game, not be rewarded for simply doing nothing.

I'm not too worried. TES games have evolved with every new addition. People said Oblivion was too watered down and made to appeal more to casual players in comparison to MW. (I was one of those people for a time)

Morrowind and Oblivion were both great games.

But honestly, if you think about it, skills/attributes and the number of different weapons you can wield aren't what made TES games great. Their amazing, wide open, game worlds are.

I think the part about acrobatics and athletics are gone is worst.
In Oblivion and Morrowind I just loved to see how my character gets faster and jumps much longer.

Not be an ass, but at 50 acrobatics skill you could, side-roll, backflip, and summersault, wich saved my ass plenty of times.

We have attributes, they are health, stamina and Magicka. Also, it was all confirmed that attributes were gone for months now.

And chances are now that they will be default actions, so if they are default, then your ass is saved.

Short answer: No.

Skyrim seems like it's gonna be more complex than OB, maybe MW, simply more user friendly.

Again, we wont know that until the game comes out. How much did we lose from Dagger to Morrow and from Morrow to Oblivion, that we knew about before the game came out? 6 months before the game came out that is? what if there is no way to jump really high or run extremley fast? No Luck at all, or unarmed?

Attributes, in the end, were superficial representations of what you already should have known. A blunt weapon user's experience would translate directly into strength in real life, which would mean more stamina. Well then, what's the point in a strength stat when it will simply mean more stamina?
