skyrim best have a manual like oblivion (toilet material)

Post » Sat Jul 10, 2010 10:18 am

I really like OB's manual, a big chunky read that one. I have noticed something of a trend these days for games to have wafer thin game manuals, presumerably market research has shown that modern gamers don't like to have to read....

If there's some truth to that, some of these should feel like an insult by their thinness. I hate it that games tend to have nothing more than a leaflet as a manual and a campaign of like five hours.

So naturally, I hope Skyrim will have a relatively thick and well written one.

I want the old encyclopedia manuals from games in the 90's. Even the original WoW manual was around 50-60 pages, maybe more.

Ditto. Oblivion's really was just a pamphlet compared to say, Baldur's Gates series.

Forget the manual, we need the game to come with a new edition of the Pocket Guide to the Empire. And not as a Special Edition thing, make it part of the base package.

Couldn't we just have both? Pocket Guide for the lore enthusiast and the manual for those wanting to prep themselves for the game.

Yeah I remember the manuals where they explained how D&D worked so they ended up being huge. THAC0 is to hit armor class of 0 etc.

Nothing's better than cuddling up in your bed with a thick, full color game manual and fantasizing in your sleep about the adventures to come and how all the little described details will play out. Since Skyrim's PS3 and 360 ports obviously won't be able to use soulless PDF manuals, I think it's a safe bet us PC users will get one, too.

More importantly, I want a nice map - on Redguard or Morrowind's level of quality, not as ambiguous as Oblivion's was.

So long as there is a nice thick player's guide from Prima or whatever I will be happy. I like to read them, even if I am not going to do all the quests that are available in the game. But yes, the manuals are cool to read too.

I remember the first Age Of Empires game manuals being longer than your average magazine. If someone at Bethesda feels like they have nothing better to do than write this all up, then by all means! Otherwise I don't care so long as it's not wafer thin, which is becoming the norm as Erik Sigurdsson pointed out.

Actually, going potty before playing Skyrim is a good idea. So, while it is installing I go and ensure that the next time I go potty it will be a satisfactory amount of time later - like six hours. That's a long time, but is easier to hold it when starting right after getting done pottying.

Other tips on extending the amount of time you can go without needing to potty: Take three Immodium to ensure the poopoo doesn't come until six days later. Drink as little as possible. You want to be dehydrated, that way you won't need to weewee as much. These suggestions are not serious nor are they recommended.... of course. Besides, Skyrim has a pause function.

But yes, I guess while going to the potty-place is necessary, having the manual with will be helpful to help the poopoo and weewee go faster and get back into the world of Skyrim sooner.

I really don't want to hear about you taking a [censored] and the word "clunky" in the same sentence, but you've got a point. I like the good ol' game manuals that are pretty much eyecandy do look at, while being informative at the same time. Not like certain manuals that I've seen recently, that looks more like the instruction manual for a microwave oven or something.

Heck I made a thread on manuals 4 days ago, about 6 responses...
I guess I did not use the right terms, such as toilet material and clunky.

Note to self, post about toilets they're popular topics.

Lol Yeah same goes for me aswell. I hate coming home with a new game and finding out the manual has only three pages.

What the hell developers! That is hardly a manual!

If I'm really excited about a game, and can't wait to get home to play it, I always read the manual on the way home, kind of like an appetizer for what is coming.

I used to do this (not when I'm driving obviously, but if I stop for food or something on the way back), but manuals are getting smaller and smaller nowadays. The last two Call of Duty manuals didn't even have any screenshots in them.

Rather than spend their time on writing a manual, I want the devs to focus on adding features to the game, like more swords

...haha no I'm kidding! Bring on the toilet material. I love doing that as well, reading those friggin BOOKS on a game I'm about to experience. Heck, the bathroom is the main reason the strategy guide for Oblivion was worth its money. :)

good most boring FPS i have played the franchise goes [censored] when treyarch try and make a game, black ops was beyond boring, sorry back to the manual discussion
lol i'm glad that people agree, like the oblivion manual had all the different skills and magic schools and was generally pretty good and bulky, i'm hoping skyrim has this too.
