Oh wow I'm the same way man, my game manuals are in a stack in the magazine rack in my restroom. That's the best time and place to read up on the game. I vote for a chunky manual.

If I'm really excited about a game, and can't wait to get home to play it, I always read the manual on the way home, kind of like an appetizer for what is coming.

I really like OB's manual, a big chunky read that one. I have noticed something of a trend these days for games to have wafer thin game manuals, presumerably market research has shown that modern gamers don't like to have to read....

I want the old encyclopedia manuals from games in the 90's. Even the original WoW manual was around 50-60 pages, maybe more.

I do this too, but Oblivions manual was braindead instruction. The Prima Guide was best :P
So yes, I will probably repeat this with either the manual or guide as it is installing/downloading :D

Yeah, I HATE that! Nothing is more disappointing then cracking open a game when I'm on the train back to my house, and I'm hoping to preoccupy myself with tons of juicy information and lore... and instead I get a 1 page, front and back leaflet instead. The worst are the ones that say "see the 'help' option in game for steps on how to play!" Like c'mon.

I have honestly never understood why/how people can read while sitting on the john.

are you all constipated or what?

I never spend longer than 2 minuites... even if its a half-the-toilet-roll-and-shower-after job.

The only time a man reads the directions to anything is on the toilet, after all. :P

Firstly that last comment made me giggle well done sir!

I miss having a good nose at manuals except the ones that deceive you by making you think theres loads of content but half of it is in other languages. I think though games companies are trying to make themselves greener and cut down costs from printing by using electronic pdf manuals these days. I think in a few years manuals in games will be gone altogether from PC gaming.

My normal procedure for a new game is , go to game, buy game, go to bus stop, get on bus and while on bus read manual, get home turn on the ps3 and watch a few episodes of how I met your mother from the box set and BOOM game installed and updated ready for playing and trophy minig galore!

it's less about ACTIVE PARTICIPATION and more about the atmosphere of being in a quiet, enclosed space.

i'm slightly more concerned about the map, not the manual, but since the CE will likely contain a new PGE to help bridge the 200-year gap between the two games (or, alternatively, the two TES novels) i could live without a good manual. i've gotten used to it by now.

I always judge how good a game is by the size of it's manual.

Ha! I suspect you have children. In my house, that's that only place that isn't blaring some sappy children's show theme song where all the characters yell at each other in Spanish or something.

LOL, I thought I was the only one who did this. I do this exact same thing. The first thing I'll do when I get home with Skyrim is take a trip to the bathroom, rip open that package, peruse the manual, then pop the disc in my 360.
I hope the Skyrim manual is beefy.
