Skyrim better have a good soundtrack

Post » Fri Jul 01, 2011 12:58 pm

I second this motion! but to a degree. I did like 1 of his songs in oblivion AND THAT'S IT manly because the elder scrolls is the only RPG i play aside from mass effect, dragon age & fallout the rest are all shooters. Soule needs to put more soul needs to make the songs more like the songs in Infamous

Soule's work is by no means perfect. As others have said, the music in Oblivion was pretty bland and uninspiring, and I hope that the music in Skyrim will be a much bigger part of the setting itself.

It has Jeremy Soule. It's pretty much impossible for it to not have the best soundtrack of the year.

I really don't get the bland and uninspiring comments. The main theme was a bit meh, and the battle music svcked... but apart from that I don't see how it could possibly have been any better. I've never heard a better game soundtrack in my life - or a film soundtrack for that matter. It just suited the gameworld so incredibly well.

Maybe you have a brain tumor? Or you are half deaf? What kind of orchestral game or film music DO you like?

How about instead of resorting to insults you actually tell me what makes Soule's music so great?

As for my preference in music I cant really say that I have one, it really depends more on the setting and the mood a developer is create within an area, the right music can add a lot to an area or scene by giving it a sense of mystery, sorrow, joy or whatever feeling a developer wishes to give it. It is not something that can be easily explained by words but the right music can really add a lot to the right circumstances. That being said Soule's music doesnt have a mood, it has no emotion it is trying to portray and just sounds bland and generic that was just used to fill a space that might as well be empty, it is very shallow, there is nothing behind it and as far as I am concerned it really wouldnt have hurt Oblivion much to have no music at all.

I really dont like Jeremy Soule's work and I really dont understand what people see in his music, it has no emotion no nothing, it is bland, it makes me feel nothing, what the [censored] do you guys see in his music? I just dont see it, it is pissing me off, everyone says how great his music is but I just dont see what is so great about it, even when he tries to pump his music up like the main Oblivion theme it just sounds pretentious like it is trying to be something that it cant ever hope to be, what the hell do you guys see? I feel like I am taking [censored] crazy pills, I cant be the only one who feels this way can I?

Stirring, atmospheric, beautiful, complements the setting and environments......

I really love walking across the Oblivion landscape with that great music in the background. It just all goes together so well.

(I've also pulled about half the audio tracks out to make a CD with - I love just listening to a lot of it. A mix of atmosphere, dungeon, town, and battle tracks. Mostly atmosphere and town. And the opening title of course.)

As much as I love Jeremy Soule's work in the TES Series, I'd prefer it if they did a Minecraft where the music only plays everyone once so often so it sounds fresh every-time you hear it.. But to be fair if you ever played Oblivion without music, the ambience to the forests and coasts is music itself.:)

Him tapping a snare drum is better than some games entire soundtracks.

How can you listen to something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUz_dGunyXg, look up at Oblivion's night sky, and say there's no mood? Sounds pretty sorrowful to me.

Or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo3e9a7QKqM, which has emotion.

I'd actually say Oblivion's soundtrack is one of the best features of the game. Without it, i'd like the game a LOT less.

That sounds like battle music to me. FAR too fast paced and busy for music to listen to while wandering around in Cyrodiil.

You've got to remember Dead Space 2's Soundtrack is to only convey the emotion of fear, The Elder Scroll's Soundtrack has to convey every single emotion to fit in a massive world where you may have any experience at any time... Which is why I love the Elder Scroll's Soundtrack so much as Jeremy Soule hits the mark pretty much every time.;)

Do you really feel no emotion when listening to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySMzlid_1Wc or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZEriesNB_8 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejafLR6jb0g&feature=related I could post a ton of Soule's work that ranges from sad to epic. I really don't understand why you think the music is bland. It might not be exciting or give you chills when listening to it. But it fits the gameworlds perfectly. Just close your eyes and tell me what you see with your inner eyes when listening to this music.

Ok, that track does sound nice... i'll admit that. But I still prefer Soule's work. Tracks from Oblivion sound more colourful and alive to me.

I don't feel an ounce of respect for his work, he's overrated and his songs are terrible and dull. Bethesda should hire Jason Graves for the job, he knows how to get the job done right :celebration:

Agreed. On every notion.

I found Soule's work some of the best incidental music known to mankind, and that was starting with Morrowind. The music had so much to add to the character and feel of that game, and the same goes for Oblivion.

Skyrim's soundtrack is shaping up to be all that goodness, all over again. Have you seen the new Skyrim footage without the commentary? The music has sustained value, I'm tired of watching the gameplay footage, but not tired of listening.

they cant feel it, because it is to different from mainstream
if they dont here loud choirs shouting, with drums and horns all loud, they say its bland

This is why i love his work. Its so deep and there is so much emotion.

Indeed. The battle music sounds amazing, which is great because I always felt that was the weak point of the Oblivion soundtrack.

I also love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcgkzXpBawg There's something so moody about it.

Arguing about musical taste is usually pointless but I really just don't understand how you could not at least appreciate Soule's work as being of artistical high quality.
