Skyrim's biggest flaw

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 2:48 pm

the biggest problem is sometimes when you fast travel, npcs times and scheldules get messed up - for me right now in whiterun, all the shops are closed during the day except one, but at night when you enter them - shopp keepers are awake but dont serve you...kind of bugs i hate

Why don't you got report your issues in the bug thread, so this can get fixed in a patch.

Because I thought It was just a poor design choice. Don't worry, I will, at least in the xbox section, I'll link it here when It's done.

i think it just the fast travelling. when i fast travel somewhere the same thing happens, but when i actually walk to some place everything seems how it should be with people sleeping, markets being empty, etc.

As I said, not for me. The only thing fast travel actually fixes is everybody spawning in the same point.

Fast travelling is your issue, don't fast travel to cities and you never have this issue. Seriously, it works for me.

That is your play-strategy. Other people (like myself) have no interest in repeatedly trodding already trodden roads and taking much more time in completing simple quests. Also, if fast travel is the problem, why was it implemented into the game. I'm not happy about this flaw and would be greatful if Bethesda could fix it so that people with varying play-strategies are able to enjoy the same game.

For me, people sleep at night and they're awake during the day. I'm on 360. The only difference between Skyrim and Oblivion regarding this seems to be that several people have jobs implemented into their schedule now, as opposed to the NPCs in Oblivion, some of whom made an extravagant living by walking around all day.

And remember that NPCs slept during the day in Oblivion as well. Remember Ongar the World-Weary? In fact, I seem to remember that being talked about to the point of absurdity in pre- and reviews for Oblivion. "We've reached a high point in video game AI! NPCs take naps! :ahhh:"

Just to agree with what someone said earlier it might have to do with fast travel. I've noticed when i fast travel sometimes people's schedules will be ruined. If i hoof it by foot i don't run into the packed Inn at 3am problem.

Yeah, I remember getting in late to an inn and having to wake the innkeeper up to get a room. I always loved that. Shame it's gone.

If you've ever slept at inn you've noticed this awhile ago. Walk downstairs at 8 am and people are still drinking and the Bard is still singing...

Yeah... it cripples my game experience, I loved to roleplay in oblivion...

PS.: I opened a thread in the bug section: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1284278-npcs-dont-follow-schedules/

Why wouldn't people still be drinking at 8am? That makes sense to me; I went to college.

My problem is that when you drink, you don't get drinking side-effects, like blurred vision or really needing a nap.

In Whiterun at the Bannered Mare, there is this one guy decked in Banded Iron armour who never sleeps or does anything else but drink and sit there, 24/7.

I have two redguards standing in the entrance to whiterun even though I completed "In my time of need" a long time ago.

I have not experienced the problem the OP is talking about. Every town I go to, NPCs seem to have schedules they follow unless it is interrupted somehow.

One thing that does bug me though is the fact that when you sleep at an inn, you wake up to the EXACT SAME SCENE you went to bed with. The bard is literally still in the middle of the same song. It couldn't have hurt for Bethesda to at least have reset the room AI after resting for X amount of hours.

That may actually be related to the wait/fast travel problems... In my game, bards are playing even at 3 am or so...

Nah, It seems something is really wrong... I wonder how widespread It is. Do you PC users have no problem regarding this matter? (Aside from the sleep deprived innkeepers)

And how the heck is that related to the rest of the thread?

You're upsed about a lack of AI initiative when they fail to pick up the stuff you dropped.

This farmer seems to have better things to do than go running about after your dropped stuff.

Maybe other characters do too?

Haven't encountered those results in 105 hours of gameplay but one occuring problem I've had was (like you said) the sleep deprived inn keepers. The others by the fire or walking around generally head out around 10-11ish game time. Seen one drunkard even wander outside markath just to be killed by a wandering giant

Maybe he was searching for his wifes ring.

Didnt read entire thread but any time I wait a duration or fast travel somewhere it's like the NPCs take a few minutes to 'get into position'.

For example if I arrive in whiterun in the middle of the night and want to dump the inv to the blacksmith by the gate I just 'wait'. No matter how long I wait for, they never appear 'in position', you always see them trucking down the hill to come to work, even it its 2 in the afternoon.

Maybe it's something along those lines you're seeing?

that is the reason why it's bad to be a vampire this time around. In OB everyone just went to bed in the night, and I could feed from anyone, but here I've had to run around the city for quite a while to find my victim.

I'm disappointed because before Skyrim was released, they said they were going to take this much further than Oblivion and have NPCs generate dynamic quests for you based on what they need done.

It seems to me that each time you enter a new town, there's an event of sorts taking place that you don't want to miss because it introduces the local questlines generally speaking. It doesn't seem to mater what time of day it is for these scenes to occur.

Have not experienced this on PC, and even if I did, it's not really a big deal. Just pretend there's a carnival or something. :P
