Skyrim is BROKEN

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 7:20 pm

I have been asking over and over again for help on the forums, and had absolutely no help on certain issues. That's not what this is about, because I don't know who could actually help me besides a developer.

For the past 3 days (Real life days) when I play Skyrim I have had an arrow and an ice bolt stuck in my character. I have tried everything from equipping different armor, no armor equipped, getting shot by more arrows and ice bolts, re-loading, zoning into a house or other building, etc. So anytime I go into a third person view I am stuck with a 10 foot ice bolt sticking out of my back and a stupid arrow out of the front of my head.

Secondly, my weapon racks in Whiterun do not work. No matter what I have equipped, how close I stand, what buttons I press, or what direction I look- I have the same problem. THEY WON'T WORK.

Thirdly, I have absolutely no idea why- but ONLY Skyrim keeps freezing. It's not periodic, it's more random than that. It seems like once it starts to strain a little on the graphic (e.g. lots of fast movements with dragons and npcs piled on to the screen) it freezes for 5 seconds, unfreezes for about a half a second, and then freezes my entire console. This is the ONLY game that does this to my Xbox.

I have noticed as well that I can not decorate my home in Whiterun. Why? Because anything I put on the shelves seems to be laying on the floor once I re-enter my home. This stuff includes things at the top of dressers where no npc can "bump" it off. The only functioning thing in my entire house are the bookshelves and storing items in dressers.

To add to that, my upstairs room walls have disappeared numerous times. The only visible thing left are the doors and dressers. My walls are gone and my bed is gone.

I am beyond pissed off with the game as it stands. This is my favorite game and I can't enjoy it because dumb [censored] like this keeps happening. I really hope they fix this soon.

EDIT: To add to the list of problems, I also find that if I Shout to quickly in a battle the shout doesn't trigger. The game reads that I did because for the next 5-10 seconds I can't attack or cast spells. Leaving whatever to pound on me. Sweet. So no shout actually went off and I can't attack.

Most of the house bugs are well known. Not sure if Bethesda can be bothered to fix them though.

My game on PC crashes at least once per day, usually more. It's even blue-screened me twice.

Teh Devs know the game is busted and many people are having issues across all platforms. They are working on it, in fact we can expect patches very soon.

I am glad I am not the only person having these problems. Only because I have began to wonder if it was somehow my disc in some shape, form, or way. I am just really irritated that this stuff keeps happening and I am forced to play something else because I am so mad at the game. Does anyone know when the actual patch is coming out?

bugs bugs bugs

anyone ever have the slow power attack bug after changing from a 2 handed weapon to dual wielding, or the one where npcs immediately detect you while doing a stealth attack from behind.

If it's freezing and your other games aren't, it could be a bug, but it's more likely that it's a damaged disc. Try installing it and see if that helps.

I would but I only have 24gb of HD space, so my space is precious, lol. The disc is in mint condition. I put them in a proper sleeve rather than the original case, which seems to undeniably crack all of my discs when I do.

Yes, it is. Because those items glitch back to the place that I dropped them. If I drop an item by the door and place it on a shelf all the way across the house, it ends up back on the floor by the door when I exit and re-enter my home.

I think his point was that you seem to be getting awfully worked up about bugs that are anything but gamebreaking. TES and Fallout games are huge in scope and always have bugs. There's so much to do in the game other than decorate your house, is it really that frustrating not being able to do that one thing?

No man, it's irritating that I go from trying to decorate my home, to walking out side to smith something and see an ice bolt/arrow sticking out of me as a reminder. Then I ignore it like I have to, I go to fast travel and engage in combat to find I can't attack and my console freezes shortly after. It's one thing after another. THAT is game breaking to me.

I had the same problem as the op, the whole icicle impalement. I found the only solution is becoming a werewolf and transforming. When you transform it automatically removes all equipped item and it removed the icicle as well.

That's strange, I don't have any of these problems.

Guess I'm just lucky.

Here are the bigger bugs I've come across (PC):

1. Open a door? [censored] flies everywhere. Rearranging and placing items worthless.

2. The shout problem you mentioned. Hit shout key, nothing happens, try to use it again and magically there is a cooldown until the next shout.

3. Giants being part of the space program.

4. Projectiles stuck in body in third person. Sometimes they go away, sometimes they dont.

5. With vsync disabled, mouse sensitivity is different on Y axis (dependent on frame rate) than on X.

6. With vsync disabled, when frame rate gets very high (usually interior cells), there is a strange, very rapid water clipping issue that interferes with attacking, spell casting and doing much anything else.

7. Archery - lack of long range collision make it svck, hard.

That's pretty much all I can think of off the top of my head...

I'm with ya OP, I hope some (most.. hopefully all) of it gets fixed in the next patch.

Changing into a werewolf fixes the ice bolt/arrow problem.

Lol, I haven't actually experienced any of what the OP is talking about, my game hasn't frozen once, walls are always there, arrows disappear (eventually).

Probably just jinxed myself but whatever.

Drop all the arrows you have and pick them back up..that usually fixes the arrow issue

Wow I've got 20 hours or so in on PC version and have not had a single issue of any kind ;)
Patches are forthcoming for all platforms so I expect many issues will be sorted, have faith.

I remember the good old days when games weren't shipped out with bugs because they had no way to patch them. Now that they can, most big titles are shipped broken/buggy and are fixed a month later. The only reason there are pre-order bonuses are because they get people to not wait a month for a working game. Examples of buggy games when they first come out: Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Brink, etc

I am glad the issue with the shouts not working is mentioned here ... I had this happen quiet a few times now and was starting to think I did something wrong somehow. But obviously not. At least that is good to know.
