Hmmm....My sword for the defense of civilization and tradition...Or...My sword is the cathartic implement of change and renewal...Decisions, Decisions...

I'm hoping there will be very difficult/emotional decisions (coughDA2cough) that will have real consequences and will change your outlook on both sides. Maybe these choices make you change your mind? Anyway I'm leaning towards the classic non-Empire Nords but we'll see.

Man, I love you Bethesda

Honestly, If we are given a choice I'll choose the seceding side of the war. I'm going to be a Nord at first, so Skyrim has always been my home. My characters family has had a close bond with Nordic traditions and has never been too fond of imperials and their crumbling empire. He'll chose the seceding side. Its his choice after all, not mine :P

I always choose a Nordic character too...But be careful not to make a decision that would throw the proverbial baby out with the bathwater. Just look at what happened with the fall of the Roman Empire and the dawn and many cruel years of the dark ages, before western civilization was able to pull itself out of the blood and muck..

True, but who knows what direction the game developers will take. Its an entirely different world with different lore. Sure, they might be influenced by real world events, but its still a different world with different, and more interesting lore.

Yes that is true to a certain extent...But who can deny that historically the fall of any great civilization was always preceded with many years of death and despair, with very few rays of light able to penetrate through the black veil of darkness that pervaded the times?

Depends on the possibility of an even greater empire rising out of the dust sooner rather than later. Maybe a Nordic-based empire? Could happen with the coming of the Dovahkiin.

A Nordic based empire would be very cool to see...Especially if modeled like Rohan in 'Lord of The Rings'...

I'd pick the rebels, just because I like being the underdog.

I will have to hold my decision until I have carefully considered the options and their consequences in game...

To me picking sides is less important than that neither side is necessarily "evil"

I always like to play "good" characters, and I would really like to play through the game with different factions on each play through both factions, but I will be discouraged from doing so if one of those factions is "evil"

I would like to see that there is merit in both of the factions and that my conscience would not be wounded if I sided with one or the other. My bias at this point is the Empire, but I would really like to see a good rebel cause

Don't know if its true that you'r about to be executed in the beginning, but if so. I bet that the empire are the ones executing me and while about to die, rebells strike against the ones about to kill me. by coinsidence or other reason and the player escapes and set of into the world in any way you choses. It would feel strange to suit up with the ones that wanted to kill me. :cookie:

But then in the end, i would like them all to join me, instead of me joining them. B)

It depends on if I will get different quests or stories depending on which way I choose to side. If I don't get unique stories or at least semi different stories I don't give a damn either way. You know how many times I wish I could have assassinated Uriel Septim at the beginning of Oblivion and then worked with the Mythic Dawn? Yeah it wouldn't fit lore wise but it would be fun as hell. This is something I liked about Mortal Kombat. You could do the story with anyone and see it end in different ways but there was only one true winner in each game, and that person would usually be mentioned as the true winner in the next game.

Being the cold, indoctrinating dictator I am, I would not secede from the empire - I would depose the new, weaker and less established emperor with a coup-d'etat, using mercenaries and political assassination where necessary to retake Skyrim and use its growing population to draft a considerable army. From there I would naturally move into Morrowind, put down the Argonians, and reestablish the slave trade whilst setting up trade routs in Blackmarsh. Elsweyr would be an afterthought, and the real threats would be Orsinium and High Rock. Mmyes. Too much Total War.

No, but really, I'd probably side with the Empire. It's kind of your heritage, after all.

Dude did you never read Machiavelli? Mercenaries are inferior to professional soldiers.

This contributes nothing to discussion ... but, all I can say is that I will have to wait and see how the story and characters shape up once I'm owning that game.

My allegiance was always with the Septim Dynasty, which has come to an end. This new Mede Dynasty is new to me, I know very little about it. Is the Emperor kindhearted and noble? Is he a ruthless and coldhearted dictator? Until I know that, I'm not sure. I will most likely side with the empire though, in a noble but likely vain attempt to reform Tamriel as it had once been.

It's hard to say since we don't know much yet, but I generally tend to side with the crown on these matters.

Where did you find out that Black Marsh and Elsweyr had seceded by the start of the game? Sorry if this is obvious news, but I've been out on the lore lately as well as release news. In either case, I believe I would fight on behalf of Skyrim's independence. With Morrowind in turmoil at Oblivion's close (and still most likely not unified by the impressions I was left with about the situation there by Skyrim's beginning) Skyrim could reclaim the lands that were taken from it by Morrowind in their last war. This is a task that would not be able to be done if Skyrim were a part of the empire. I believe that Skyrim can very much become a new empire, were it to expand into Morrowind and Colovia, IMO.

not long after oblivion Black marsh saw the empire would crumble so they left the empire then conquered what was left of morrowind then elsweyr left the empire then not long after that the Thalmor took over summerset isle and valenwood so there isnt much to the old empire just cyrodiil, hammerfell, skyrim, and high rock

i wonder if we will fight invading Argonians or Thalmor

If Argonians do decide to invade, after I've lopped off their heads, I'm going to impale them on pikes and then go into business selling lizard-cicles...

well since he over took the empire (with less than a thousand people) he sounds like a bad guy till he tries to rebuild the empire like it use to be so its difficult to really tell

Eh? I didn't read the book that came out on the subject but didn't Titus Mede merely take the Imperial City with less then a thousand men? And, wouldn't he be dead? I thought a bunch of time passed...

There was one of these but i think its already locked. Well anyway i would choose the side that wants to leave from the empire. (I watched braveheart the other day and i can imagine it something close to that.)

Turn Coats is one thing, but ideological differences are another. After all, are you saying that USA should have stayed with England? I am English and even I think that'd be a foolish notion. It's easier to let other people rule or to be a ruler of such a system, it's much harder to rule yourself but much more rewarding. Skyrim shouldn't split into tribal villages, it should turn into a country that rules itself, rather then being ruled by people miles away in another country.

as an american...... agreed

and even though i'll be starting off as an imperial i'd try to support the seperation of skyrim..... hopefully it doesn't fail as badly as the french revolution
