i said it in the last thread and i'll say it again: many of the things that Skyrim is bringing to the series are things Arkane has http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/07/09/dark-futures-part-4-raphael-harvey-arkane/ - namely all the little atmosphere things (cooking, woodcutting, etc.) - as well as things that they've incorporated to some degree in their past games.
while it's unlikely that Arkane has had a direct hand in making the combat, it's very possible that Bethesda consulted with them about it, as well as about how to implement these "immersive sim" elements in ways that don't feel boring and contrived like they do in so many other games.
Arkane's project is their own, and remains unannounced.

Yep you nailed it. BTW thanks for the link it was a good read. One thing I will say is even if they didn't talk to them they definitely were influenced I believe. Sure Bioshock has similar animations but I think DM:M&M looks far more similar then anything that Bioshock has.
also if Skyrim really does wind up having a more polished execution of Dark Messiah's combat then there is literally nothing Bethesda can do to ruin the game. a first-person open-world Dark Messiah with a ton of viking imagery all over the place is pretty much the best action RPG anybody could ever make.
